The notion that we will fail to attract top players if we don't make the CL

Falcao, Blind, Di Maria and Herrera all had CL football at their previous clubs, yet chose to sign for United anyway.

Apples and oranges save for Di Maria.

Monaco isn't going to be a threat for the PL title and the French league has nowhere near the exposure as the PL. Blind plays for Ajax a legendary club but they aren't going anywhere in the PL either. Dutch league nowhere near the PL in terms of exposure.

Di Maria is the only apt comparison and he left Real because they wanted Hames more.

United has the great sphere of influence.

As mentioned missing one year of the CL isn't an issue but once you miss 2,3 doubt creeps in and people wonder if the team can return to the CL.

Could've had Vidal aswell if it wasn't for his knee injury according to the Chile NT manager.

At this point I feel we can get whoever the feck we want haha. Feels good tbh but we can't do this next summer.

Not this extent no, but it's always been the frustration that with our turnover and power, we should be able to make a big signing each year.
Will be interesting to see if we do that now.

We are paying them mental money. Also apparently Di Maria was set on PSG before he eventually came to us as PSG refused to pay what Madrid wanted. Falcao seems a massive 3rd party ownership influence - seems like he had little choice.

Its definitely a flawed notion. Its ok to say players won't join us because we have no champions league football but there are so many other factors. We are a huge club and that is a big draw to a lot of players. Even during times when teams like Bayern were struggling they could still attract some big names. Clubs with a prestige will always be a draw.

There is also the wages aspect, we can pay as much as almost any other team in the world. For example with Di Maria we were willing to pay him a wage that even Real scoffed at. It would be great if money wasn't an important aspect for players but it is and I cant really blame a player for wanting to make as much money as they can over a short career.

Also looking at players like Falcao, on a massive wage at Monaco, yet can make so much more money at a club like United by increasing the value of his brand. His sponsorship options will increase hugely

Liverpool apparently wanted him...

PSG spunked close to £50m on Luiz and Di Maria was expensive.

No, Falcao's third party influence is what took him to Monaco in the first place. That settled it, and that's why he's been looking for a out either to us or Madrid.

Being United probably had little to do with landing both Falcao or Di Maria. We were the only clubs who could afford them, let me explain.

Di Maria: every club in the world wanted him but the only clubs who could afford him without FFP were us, most clubs had already spent their transfer budget so an extra £60 million was out of the question. Even PSG couldn't afford him but even if they could and United were offering the same wage I'm sure Di Maria would prefer to go to the EPL. Plus we have as much chance as PSG winning the CL this year, none.

Falcao: Madrid didn't want to pay that much for him, City never really showed too much interest (apparently), Arsenal couldn't afford him and no one could match his wages, except us.

As much as I love that we have 2 world class players but lets not get ahead of ourselves, they are only here because of money, maybe not entirely for the wages but because we were the only ones who could pay the transfer fees. If City, Chelsea, Madrid, Bayern, Barcelona could all afford them we'd probably be his 5-6th choice.
