The next Liverpool manager | Arne Slot Liverpool's Báld Fraud

I hope they do get Slot, I just don’t think he’ll do it in the prem. there’s something about Dutch managers. Has there ever been a successful Dutch manager in the prem? I can’t remember one.

There's just not many good Dutch manager in history in general really.

We have 2/3 of the greatest of all time in Michels, Cruijff, and (90s) Van Gaal.
But beyond that we just produce really dim, copy-paste managers for the most part; with Bosz, Ten Hag, Slot being the first to break that mould since then, basically.
The managers who go through the KNVB course and stick to it (mostly ex national team stars) tend to fail miserably.

Other than those names, who have we had? Hiddink and Beenhakker were, as far as I'm aware, both more Ancelotti type "manage the squad and vibes" type managers, and people like Advocaat and Jol were more hard work, grit, and solidity types.
I guess Rijkaard exists too, but he's a bit of an enigma as far as I can tell.

There's a reason our national team keeps rotating through the same bunch of mediocre old names.

I think they underestimate the league. It’s nothing like the Dutch league. Which is surprising because the Dutch are known for playing good attacking football, similar to the Germans. They like to press high.
The problem with Dutch trainers (or people in general) is that we're very preaches and very sure of the fact that our way is the only correct way. We like to tell people how to behave, live, play football, eat boterhammen etc.

By far the biggest offender in this is Frank de Boer who after winning 4 league titles with Ajax thought he could implement Total Football at Crystal Palace (or was it QPR I can't tell those apart) after already failing to do so at Inter. Louis van Gaal is even worse of course, but he's so eccentric and such a maniac that he managed to still do well abroad a few times.

Peter Bosz and Ten Hag have failed in similar fashion (though Bosz did well at Leverkusen or Frankfurt or Werder or Stuttgart who the feck knows) so there's absolutely no reason to think Slot will do well.

But I'll defend him til he's boo'd out of Liverpool.

I don't know how Liverpool fans can point to his record in Europe and say that it's impressive. Mediocre at best, no?

As I said he made the Conference League final in 21/22 beating Partizan, Slavia Prague and Marseille. Lost to Roma in the final. 22/23 got through in the EL group of Midtjylland, Lazio and Sturm Graz where all four teams finished on 8 points. Feyenoord went through on goal difference. Beat Shakhtar Donetsk in the last 16 then lost to Roma again. This season they finished 3rd in their CL group which consisted of Celtic, Atletico Madrid and Lazio. Lost to Roma once again in first round of the EL.

As a feyenoord fan, I can only say that he is the best manager we had in the last few decades. Also, before he joined, he did a mega job with Cambuur and AZ.

As other posters already mentioned, he operated very well, but results were overshadowed by ETH's Ajax. However, if you ask me, he results were just as impressive given that Feyenoord only had a player salary budget (gross) of 27 million euros when he took the job, which is 3-4x lower than Ajax. A couple years later he turned Feyenoord back into a regular title contenter nationally, why also giving us some nice runs in the europa league/conference league

Would've loved for him to takeover from ETH at United.

The only thing that can potentially bite him in the ass is that he only has 1 gameplay (high intensity attacking football - which his team being very high up the pitch), which is a recipe for being ''outmanaged'' by the more experienced managers in the EPL.

Looking at his domestic record, he led Feyenoord to the title last season but we all know that Ajax have fallen off since the departures of Overmars and ten Hag. They finished 3rd in his first season and looks like they will 2nd this season behind PSV. Record in the domestic cups looks a bit spotty. The one Dutch Cup to his name.

His record on paper just doesn't look that impressive to me. I heard he plays great football, I can't really comment on that since I've not watched much Eredivisie since ten Hag was there. My mate is a die hard Feyenoord fan and he loves him. The idiot has a soft spot for the scousers too so he's sad to see him go but seems happy he's going to the scousers.

This is brilliant hahaha from alonso and amorim to slot. Hilarious. INEOS should be dominating the next decade now

This is hilarious, am seeing in real time Scousers who were aghast at his potential appointment initially suddenly becoming experts in Dutch football and how, ackshully, it's a shrewd approach by them - truly great to see, they are fecked imo.

This is all I see.

Didn't he also have AZ Alkmaar level at the top with Ajax before COVID hit?

His domestic record seems pretty exemplary considering the context of Feyenoord - equally if not more impressive to Amorim at Sporting. It comes down to whether that translates to the Premier League, which no one knows.

The state of the manager pool is you take a risk on a promising but more inexperienced manager or you go for a more experienced option that is seemingly only free because they're toxic and have talked their way out of multiple positions already (Mourinho, Conte, Tuchel). Tuchel was really the only one I could just about stomach from that group, so I'm more than happy to take a punt on a guy who's career trajectory has been trending upwards and whose style of football fits the squad that we have.

Done deal it seems. A very tough job for Slot to try and fill the void left by a very charismatic manager.

If Slot did what he did with Ajax it would be nothing special, but we were really bad when he took over. Like, Ajax in it's current state multiplied by 5 and without the transfer budget.

We are actually on track to get more points than last year and an amount that would see us win the league in most seasons, but fecking PSV has only lost 1 game so far and are on track for the highest points total of all time. Cnuts.

Weird choice, but they could always sack him and go all out for Xabi next year if it doesn't work out.

Yes, but people leave out or forget the context of this being the result of Ajax going through a spell of dropping points due to suddenly losing about half of the starting XI around the winter of that season, missing some combination of Blind, Veltman, Mazraoui, Neres, Ziyech, Promes, and even Onana (one game) across the last 10 games period the season was paused (and subsequently ended).

Ajax won 13 of the first 15 games, drawing the other 2. Then the injuries suddenly started piling up and we lost 5 of the next 10.
AZ got lucky in that the schedule had both their fixtures against us exactly in this window of injuries as well (though I guess you could argue that even without the injuries, in the scenario in which they were as good/better, this would explain 2 of the 5 losses anyway).

Bosz had one of the best starts Dortmund ever had. Once he got found out he didn't have any plan B. I still remember Dortmund being 4:0 against Schalke at home and were lucky at the end they draw the game. Think that game was the final nail in the coffin and shortly after Bosz was replaced with Stöger.

Feels like ages ago... Stöger managing in the BL. Schalke being competitive in the BL...

I don't know exactly what the situation was with O'Neil and Amorim, but it's at least intersting to me that they're coming up with plenty of names. There was obviously Alonso too and I've never heard of Slot in all honesty.

If it is Slot then he might be terrible, who knows? Just thinking it of it from the perspective of some our fans saying there isn't any suitable choices to possibly replace Ten Hag. They seem to be coming with options and in many ways they'd have a lot more to lose if they got it wrong. We're already crap so another bad appointment for us would just be maintaining the staus quo.

Can I be the first to wish them as much like with a Dutch manager as we've had.... :wenger:

Im suprised they have chosen Arne Slot over someone like Amorim, I very much doubt the Liverpool fans will be happy with this appointment if it happens.

Bosz failed at Lyon too..very naive manager who is actually winning this years Eredivisie?! It doesnt sound good, not at all..

What makes Amorim so exciting? He only worked in the Portuguese league, that's ranked even lower than ours.

I think Sporting were in an even worse position than you when he took over and won the league immediately. Seems to be more tactically sound than Slot.

Have no idea about this Slot guy but aside from Xabi Alonso there aren't many obvious choices. It's a risk but I guess is better to try with someone new rather to go for someone like Emery and if it doesn't work they can always sack him and try to find someone else who accommodates to their squad and the style already stablished by Klopp.

Seeing as they paid 10 million to hire Amorim I very much doubt they were in a worse position :wenger:

Though winning the league for the first time in 19 years does sound impressive.

I’d hardly call it domination, one league title and one CL is ok but dominant???
Hard to tell if you're joking, via text. The 70s/80s I meant as our period of dominance. You took up the mantle and its currently City's.

To his former club/personally? Anyways hat's an outrageous sum, regardless.
