The next Ballon d'Or winner that isn't Cristiano or Leo

I've been watching Madrid all season and while he is good, I don't see what you are seeing in him.
While I am not saying he will win the Ballon D'or (like most of the names been mentioned in here will not), so far he has been better than Di Maria and Ozil were at the same age and in their first year at Madrid.

What? Özils start at Madrid was immense, much better than James imo.

Bale will all in likely be the next winner, scores more than Neymar, Hazard and Gotze.

James scores, assists, works hard and closes down. He has definitely impressed me more than Ozil did in his first few months and looks to be a better player. Despite being surrounded by better players than Ozil was, he is still managing to stand out. And unlike Ozil, James has the desire to improve and not be happy with his current level. If he does not have a better first season than Ozil, I will be very disappointed after what he has shown so far.

Top scorer in the league at the moment and overall our best scorer so far this season. His goals/minute record at Bayern is similar to Bale's at Real and he's quite good at scoring crucial goals in important games. He's also 3 years younger and clearly still improving his finishing.

Do you think he'll end up with more than Bale by the end of the season? I highly doubt it.

Those were the stats of Özils first season for you. I highly doubt James will reach similar figures.

Difficult to say. I expect Götze to play less minutes overall, we have less games and will rotate between all our attacking players more than Real, so yeah most likely if you just look at the sheer numbers Bale will come out on top this season. In the end it won't matter, because neither will be the best attacking player in their team. In 2 or 3 years however, I'd be very surprised if Götze doesn't match Bale's stats while also being more involved in the overall play of the team. I also wouldn't be surprised if Götze plays for Real in 3 years, which would help a lot if he wants to win individual awards.

He will not get as much assists but I am sure he will contribute more in other areas. He scored against Atletico in the supercup (which isn't much) and that alone is more than Ozil did in his whole first season in the big games. His workrate, closing down, tracking back, mentality as well as his goals and assists will help the team much more than Ozil did in his first year. James has been moved around positions and has defensive duties whereas Ozil was pretty much always a number 10 at Madrid and did not do much defensive work and when he did defend in the odd game he was very bad at it. While James does not give as much balance to the team as Di Maria did, he offers more than Ozil would in what is really a very unbalanced midfield compared to what Ozil was in (James does not have the luxury of Alonso playing behind him to tidy up, control the game and keep things ticking as well as the defensive work he used to do to allow Ozil the freedom). If he was given the freedom that Ozil was who knows how many goals and assists he would get and who cares as that is not what the team needs at the moment. The team needs James to play the role he is playing atm in order to get the best out of it and make us a threat on the counter as well as keeping us relatively solid at the back and in midfield and Ozil would not have been able to do that as he was not versatile enough, nor did he have the hunger, grit, toughness or mentality to do it (and he still doesn't). Stats are not everything.

Nailed on to be Neymar imo. As Messi ages, Neymar will become more central to Barca's attack and that will push him to even greater heights.

Yep, that's delusion.

Look at his scorer numbers, trophies and so on. He had more scorers then Messi between 18 and 20. In the season where he was 21(till the last month) he found his way into a new team,
won 5 trophies and scored the WC winning goal. I take him as a safe bet. ;)

Not in the same league talent wise. Pointless comparison.

Gotze is a great player, but great is not enough for Ballon d'Or.

I think one of the obvious choices like Hazard, Bale, Neymar is the next one. The contest is a bit about popularity, isn't it?

Great is an overused word for what it should be. Messi is great. Gotze is a talented young player.

I don't see what Hazard and Neymar have that Götze doesn't. I'm really not the biggest fan of Götze but he's proven a lot more in the Champions League than the other two and has put in great performances since he was 18, carrying Dortmund to titles.
Still has a long way to go but he's in the same bracket as Hazard/Neymar/Bale for me.

Bollox. Hazard's better than him too, and I think Lynk meant Gotze isn't as talented as Messi was at the same age (in fact, worlds apart).

I'm not comparing him to Hazard or Neymar, @anchan1989 is comparing him to Messi for feck sake.

I don't get why every Götze discussion on the caf alwasy turns into such extremes. He's clearly a special talent and had outstanding performances in all competitions for his teams. He didn't develop as quickly as he could have without his injuries and without his move to a big club while having a longterm injury. Comparisons with Messi are of course nonsense, but saying he isn't great or not a huge talent with a shot at a Ballon d'Or in the future is mind-boggling. He already achieved a lot despite being so young and had a great start to the season so far, easily as good as Bale, Neymar or Hazard.

Choice of my words aren't really relevant, as I'm only using them as a method for comparison. I'm just saying while Gotze is a talented player himself but wasn't at the level that Messi was at the same age. (which isn't much of a slight on Gotze anyways as Messi was/is something truly special)

Only Messi rivals what he has done to his age.
and if we don't think Gotze is as good as Messi, we're all haters. (apparently)

Yeah he was. I follow the League every week, he had 15 assists in his first Bundesliga season when he was 18, he was vital for Dortmund. He didn't contribute all that much in the year after but that was mostly due to his long injury.
And I don't know how you can say Hazard is better, what makes it so obvious, am I missing something? For instance Götze (at Dortmund) had a similar record to Hazard when you compare the numbers from his time at Lille, but with around 30 games less played. Add to that that Ligue 1 is a worse League than the Bundesliga.

No one should take anchan seriously. Pretty much all the other Bayern fans on the Caf either have him on ignore or laugh at his extensive use of superlatives when it comes to German football or Bayern. At first I thought it's just the post World Cup euphoria and it would calm down after a while, but it doesn't seem to happen.

Classy @Balu. Im a FAN. Not every comment from me is neutral and 100% proved. If you dont like that, fine. But leave me alone then. You arent my former school teacher(although I think that you would like that :D
And you should think about the stuff you post. Annoying is one thing, offensive is another one.

And to all the guys who laugh at my Götze Messi comparison; dont compare the 27 year old Messi with the 22 Götze. Do it with the 22 year old and tell me that I cant get the idea of similar talent.
Hating(ignoring of facts) is happening by some in relation to Götze here. But Im the one who had fun so far with him.
Having fun....you should try it.

Gotze is a brilliant talent. When he was at dortmund I found him the most exciting you g talent in the game. But he's never going to be anywhere near messi. Messi is miles more talented.

Messi was already being considered an all time great by the time he was 22, Gotze aint fit to lace his boots mate, 27 years old or 22 years old.

I've not the slightest idea why you keep mentioning that. I enjoy watching Götze play, a lot. I don't need to go into extreme hyperbole and compare him with Messi to do that.

Football has nothing to do with stats. It's about what they bring to the team and individual moments of class. And yes, Götzte is one of the best youngsters in world football... no doubt about it. But COME ON, what messi showed at a young age was incredible! Everytime he played you just saw what he would become, one of (if not) the greatest players of all time!
