The New low (I.) Q. Republicans and Ted Cruz

Since they dub "socialism" to include things like the NHS, they should be asked why defence spending - similarly paid for out of taxation - isn't also socialist.
And the public education that the majority of them received before the age of 18.

 hopefully the plaintiff's lawyer just pins that tweet to the wall and the judge finds her guilty of treason

I think it would be fascinating if they were told they would be allowed to run if they swore, under oath and on the Bible, that 1/6 was an insurrection and those that stormed the capitol were committing treason. Would their brains explode? How would they twist it to make it fit? It would be delicious.

If smoothly run elections are socialism....... Australia is a communist utopia.

95%+ voter turnout and you get fined if you don't vote. We do almost everything possible to get your vote.

The NHS is definitely socialism, to be fair.

So is the army isn't it if it's for defence? In fact the American army supplies and trains loads of militaries all around the world, the aid for Ukraine for example is as socialist as it gets isn't it?

OK. So isn't defence spending, paid for by taxation, also socialism?

It's not socialism in the strictest sense, since it doesn't directly relate to the workers owning the means of production (I am sure some make the argument that it does), but public health care was one of the main things the early socialists fought for, and the main reason it exists. Even the countries that did stuff like that ("stuff like that" including labour protection) without socialist influence (for example Germany) mostly did it specifically to head off any kind of socialist agitation/revolution. Defence spending is not socialism, since it's one of the defining features of a state (possibly the defining feature). Even people who've historically favoured the smallest state possible have always included the military... and not much else.

NHS employees don't "own the means of production" (they don't own the hospitals, or the medical equipment manufacturers, or the drug companies etc), yet you've said that the NHS still equates to socialism.

The truth is that taxation is itself inherently socialist - collecting money into a central pool that can be spent by the state on things deemed beneficial or necessary for society as a whole - whether it be healthcare, defence, schools, or whatever.

So, within this inherently socialist framework, it's merely down to political policies and priorities as to how much tax should be levied and what the tax money should be spent on.

Anyone claiming that healthcare spending is socialist whilst defence spending isn't, simply doesn't know what they're talking about.

Oh hey, it's the thing I said before the comma where I explained the thing you just said.

Edit: to be clear, when I said "it's not socialism in the strictest sense", I was talking about the NHS (or public healthcare in general). I can see how that sentence might not have been perfectly clear, since I quoted you guys talking about defence spending.

Honestly. Just put her and Boebert on a mic and let them keep talking.

Sounds like a MAGA judge is doing all he can to protect MTG in this trial.

if folks would like to get an insight into where the GOP is going, i'd strong suggest this book

Trust me, it isn't a book that says "haha conservatives are fascists". Its a really good examination of how fascist use the failures of conservatism and of parliamentary rule to address the issues of the time to foment fascist take overs. My personal favourite is the examination of Austrofascism. For some folks, you may start to see the parallels.

I mean...this is at the same time terrifying, hilarious, absurd, and most of all not suprising

Small government

Speaking of... https://www.michigandaily.com/opinion/columns/the-hypocrisy-of-small-government-republicans/
The hypocrisy of “small government” Republicans
-- The harsh reality, however, is that Republicans have historically had no issue embracing big government, so long as it fulfills their political ambitions and ideological preferences. Take for example the death penalty, abortion, gay marriage, the police state, etc. Sure, Democrats have little problem embracing big or small government depending on their political well-being and policy preferences. The difference, however, is that they also do not make a point to consistently label themselves as pro-small or big government; it is not a key identity they cling to. One would be hard-pressed to find a campaigning democrat promising to be a “big government liberal,” or a small government one, at that. --

Has some stuff about Disney near the end. Definitely not a cult.

The ‘Mayor of MAGAville’ Is a White Rapper Named Forgiato Blow
He rapped about guns and women without any success. But a pivot toward Donald Trump has put Kurt Jantz at the heart of MAGA politics.

-- “This is supposed to be a family-oriented park. Look what they stand for! You call this a family affair when they’re basically supporting pedophiles,” said 78-year-old George, who declined to give his last name.--

--He wished Disney movies were the way they used to be: He particularly yearned for 1946’s Song of the South, a movie that’s been widely criticized for perpetuating racist stereotypes.--

--“I was concerned with how pretty Ariel's red hair was, or how pretty her purple top was, and I loved the fairytale story with her and Prince Eric,” said Loomer. “I wasn’t worried about whether Ariel was bisexual.” When I pointed out that Ariel was half-fish, she said that was irrelevant.--

--Jantz’s new song, “Hey Disney,” was thrown together in less than a day, seemingly without much care for the harm he might be causing by bolstering narratives that equate support for LGBTQ visibility with pedophilia. His lyrics were simply convenient rhymes and rallying cries for a rolling right-wing grievance circus.--

Half body fish (beastiality) is fine but not bisexuality. That is a new one.
