I have Pepe and Boateng as CB, and with the chance to a massive upgrade on fullbacks and CM. I don't think upgrading those CBs is priority. I'd say MJJ and Skizzo could use both but decided not to.

Sorry, didn't mean to come across as too critical - Lahm is a huge defensive/all around upgrade as well and you had strong reason to suspect that Theon could have took him if you hadn't.

No worry, Pat. I didn't take it as 'too critical'. Yes. It did cross my mind that Theon would take Lahm, and my option would be very limited.

No beef, you guys need to spice it up in here . I will go out on the plank and predict that Harms predicted Theon and Isotope to win.

@harms any response to your predictions?

 If Theon win, he'd get Ronaldinho (as the pick-up order reversed), and then the Final would be over before it start

Lesson learnt - Never ever agree to a match on Friday evening.

I was half drunk and browsing the thread from the pub. Was browsing through the thread half drunk and thought @Skizzo and @Pat_Mustard would stick with their standard 4-4-2. They went for safety with a 4-5-1 and my suicidally ambitious attacking formation backfired. Btw the time I recovered from the hangover the game was gone.

I should have listened to @antohan It still was a close loss at 7-9. I was this close to back-to-back draft wins.

Was that the one in which you piled up all the Brainfart of the Draft Awards?

:D A glorious episode in Caf draft history.

In fairness to the gaffers, part of the reason beyond prioritising the pulling power of the attackers is because the pool of post-1980s defenders is shallow. That said, I'm surprised the lack of defensive quality hasn't harmed more of those who neglected it.

Aye, as far as centre backs go it seems that all those below Silva, Vidic and Terry have effectively been rated equally, with the exception being poor Stobz's David Luiz pick blowing up spectacularly on him. Its been a bit disappointing that the differences in quality of those selected outside of the elite handful haven't really been disucssed more satisfactorily.

Yes, because apparently strikers can do any damage against any defender, regardless of the defender's class. Looks like that's how it works in these draft games, a massive attacker will thrash any defender, while a massive defender won't stop any good attacker.

I don't think that's always the case in drafts, but the relative weakness of the defensive pool in this one has made it abnormally attack-orientated for sure.

That's exactly the thing, with defenses pool so limited I'd expect people to storm on them first. But reaching SFs with defenders who are far from top class even in today's terms is a bit laughable. Muppetry I say.

He's in London and asked me to step in but he didn't specify whether he had a write-up ready to use or not. I will start writing one and hopefully he has time to just log on and either send his write up or say he doesn't have it.

Ahh okay, lets wait today to see if he responds. Otherwise, we can start the game together.

You could just use his old write-up and tweak a few things. It's the same team just with way better centerbacks after all. Nothing in the style of play should change.

You cant change the rule on reinforcements just before the final!

@Annahnomoss can we have the match today, please.

I am waiting for a response from Theon - he said he'd talk last night. I'd love to get some clearance from his side before making a decision. He's the one in the semi final with a great team.

Oh okay, I would have expected the only decision would be robben right or left. The rest of it is pretty straight forward but will wait.

I sent the write up to EAP. I will be Theon's stand in as he doesn't have time. It is why I abstained from voting in the last round as Theon had sent me a PM asking me to help him out when he was gone.

So would be wrong to vote between Iso/Skizzo with that in mind I thought.

Theon is unavailable just for this round I believe and will probably chip in some when he can after work.

Have you decided what the theme of the next draft will be? Count me in.
