The MMA thread

Why do people hate Cejudo? Yeah sure he's cringe but man's a true underdog. Came from poor background, managed to win an Olympic gold medal, dethroned MM and now beat a snake who revelled in a whole division of fighters potentially becoming unemployed, one of which is his best friend.

TJ so salty in the post interview. Needs to rewatch the fight.

T.J. got head kicked, pushed to the ground, head kicked again, dropped with a punch going stiff for a second, ate a series of hard shots, and as T.J. tries to get up he was slapped around 3 or 4 times in the head as it bounced around, that’s when the ref stepped in and stopped it.

At that point Henry was still punching and would have continued to do so.

T.J. is saying he was going for a single leg and Henry stopped punching to defend it, and that’s why he believed it was an early stoppage. However, that’s not true, that happened after the ref already stopped the fight.

Ref saved his skin.

I don't know how to post tweets here but after the main event, McGregor tweeted a backhanded one, telling TJ that McGregor is the OG champ champ and telling Cejudo that unlucky not getting the fastest title win. Khabib texted #saveflyweight to Dana.

Connor is truly a selfish cnut.

I thought it was an early stoppage to be honest. TJ was still defending. He probably would have lost in another 10 seconds but I think he deserved the opportunity.

Honestly, who gives a shit about that junkie McGregor? And why do people find it so hard to spell Conor? It's really simple.

Who would have thought Greg Hardy would turn out to be a scumbag?

Of course Dana praised him after the fight, despite the DQ.

Didn't like that stoppage, just a little too early. You have to let it play out a little bit longer than that, just to give the winner the decisive victory they deserve or the loser a fair shot of surviving, especially in a title fight. Soldiering on through adversity is a big part of MMA.

Great performance by Cejudo, he looked quick and sharp. He had a clear speed advantage which is a big factor and could even be a decisive factor in a 135 rematch. Wins over DJ and TJ Back to back, that's some resume. Feel that this win also gives the flyweight division some more credibility as when DJ was racking up title defences it was thought that the competition wasn't really there. Something that tends to happen whenever a division has a dominant champ for a long time.

TJ did seem to suffer immensely from the weight cut. Went down so easily and half of those punches didn't even connect fully. Would be interesting to see it run back at 135 as Cejudo having a win over him could really give him a mental advantage even at TJ's preferred weight. We see it quite often with immediate rematches that the initial victor wins again comfortably.

On Greg Hardy, maybe I'm being naive and giving him too much of a benefit of the doubt but I can easily believe that the illegal knee came from inexperience. He threw it as soon as he saw one knee come up off the ground, but of course the other was still down. However he's never been in that sort of position before, I believe his longest prior bout was under a minute so here he was dealing with a very new situation while in deeper waters than he's ever been before. Sees a knee come up off the ground and gets a rush of blood to throw a devastating strike, totally forgetting about the other one. Now of course as a disclaimer he's already proven himself to be a piece of shit in the past so if it was intentional after getting trash talked to and facing adversity then it wouldn't be totally shocking either.

Great to see Cowboy bring an overconfident prospect back down to earth. I feel that's a great role for him now as long as he wants to keep doing it. Headlining fight night cards or big ESPN prelim spots taking on these younger fighters who have built up some hype.

Even if that's true, all the more reason he shouldn't have been given such a prominent position on the card. Even more so given this was the first card on ESPN and he was sharing it with a recent domestic violence victim in Ostovich. A bad decision by the UFC on multiple levels given Hardy has done nothing (professionally or personally) to deserve it.

Early stoppage imo. This ref is terrible.

After rewatching the fight again this morning, I'm of the opinion it was a really shit stoppage. TJ was absolutely still on the fight.

Anyway, overall was a great night of fights. The ESPN pacing for the main card was pretty good. I hope it can be the same next time but for the whole event.

Not sure if I would call him a scumbag based on last night. He simply lost track of where his opponent was and kneed him, for which he was rightly DQ'd.

Yeah, I've since seen his quotes afterwards where he cited inexperience and they seemed genuine enough. Though as I said above, that level of inexperience is part of what made putting him in such a prominent position on the card a bad call.

Dana would do anything for a quick buck.

I don't hate him but I think the reason people find him annoying is because he's cringing. It's so forced everything he does and just comes across as cheesy and terrible. The snake stuff was possibly one of the most awkward things I've seen at a UFC press conference.

I don't know if TJ revelled in the division getting shut, I think it was just a way of getting eyes on the fight. I don't think he was bothered either way and essentially said as much. It's not his decision to open or close divisions and he probably just thought he would get on with it.

Agree re the rest, I don't think it was a terrible stoppage, maybe could of gone on but the result would of been the same.

Honestly, who gives a shit about that junkie McGregor? And why do people find it so hard to spell Conor? It's really simple.

Unfortunately for the likes of Cejudo and TJ a lot more people give a shit anout McGregor than anyone like them. Which is why it's a bit shit he took some what of a dig at them after the fight, plenty of people will see that and he's using this fight to keep himself in the headlines.

Dana agrees it was too early stoppage.
I guess he always does, but TJ is fighting for 2 belts, let him atleast lose properly, don't stop the fight when he's still fighting to get up.

watched the fight in a bar on sat night, thought the stoppage was good. Watched it again yesterday and I've changed my mind. A fight of that magnitude, that should not have been stopped so early. TJ has been rocked severely before and came back and won. Great card though, enjoyed it.

I thought it was an early stoppage too, he was still scrambling to get up.

I don't like TJ but he was fecked over by the ref there i think.

I can understand saying it was stopped a wee bit early but no way was Dillashaw winning that one. He just didn't look up for it and probably just gotten his face smashed in more.

If strong rumours (texts being circled on Whatsapp, as well as stories from Gardaí in Dublin) are true, *redacted* is done for this week re that rape claim pre-Christmas. Daily Mail to name him soon, apparently.

Cejudo v Cena at Wrestlemania?

Jojo vs PVZ in March. Hmmmm…

Think Eye would be better as a title shot eliminator but If she was to beat PVZ guess that would effectively put her in line for the buzz saw that is Valentina if as expected Eye gets the next title shot.

Sounds like the same issue as before. The picograms will stay in his body for a long time and will get randomly picked up in various tests.

Sounds like he needs to be suspended until he has 0 picograms. Otherwise there is no point on keep testing him and others fighters.

He's already done penalty and been allowed back. The residual amount will stay in his body for a long time and has zero bearing on his performance, which is why he is being allowed to fight.

It's laughable now this just so ridiculous he is fighting it's funny.

It's odd people will still defend him to. Don't get me wrong like watching the guy fight but he shouldn't be eligible to compete. If it was a less skilled fighter I seriously doubt people would come to his defence

So Jones is just free to juice to the gills with Turinabol now by the looks of it. Personally i don't believe the story Dana cooked up to explain this, i think he popped again before the Alex fight and they just couldn't afford to have him suspended for a 3rd time.

So basically the same information recycled. I can't keep up!

Is there anything else than a tweet?
Any interviews, articles, etc, about this?

Same info as before. False alarm for the hate brigade.

Hate brigade for pointing out a drug cheat still has sketchy stuff about him.

That's as bad as when someone dare compliment McGregor and get called casual or a Conor Nut Hugger etc

There's nothing new in this story that we didn't already know in terms of the picograms etc.

will this set a precedent for any figher returning from a drug ban ie can they say any any traces in their system refer back to when they took stuff or is this situation unique to this case only

Depends on Dana's mood and nothing else.

Bingo if you're a big name they need to sell PPV's then you'll probably get a pass. If you're no longer a draw like Frank Mir then you get a 2 year ban.
