The MMA thread

Near the end it got a bit shit but some of the bus references had me in tears. Interesting to see now what will happen October 6.

No matter how his press conferences go, he's currently still the only UFC fighter I get out of bed for at 5am in the morning, so there's that.

I'm hoping he loses and retires.

Fixed it for you ;)

I feel like it was all an act. He seemed to calm down nicely when asked a normal question and then quickly get wound up again when Khabib said something. Seemed pretty staged.

Definitely came in half cut, anyone from Dublin will recognize it.

Love how Conor done some digging. He went after Ali too the rat.

McGregor calling one of Khabib’s backroom team a ‘terrorist’ and also casually mocking their Muslim/Arabic greetings (salamo alaykom) on numerous occasions.

Classy fella.

He's highly erratic and twitchy. I think it's a bit staged, but he also looks wired.

Dissing Kadyrov as well. Pretty much guarantees he won't ever fight in Russia.

Think he did what he wanted there and do feel like he kind of got under Kahbibs skin. Went from trying to not get involved to joining in the ranting trying to defend himself. Can’t wait for this fight.

Na, classic up and down.
Like the dick who's starting a fight, you get it calmed down and he starts again out of nowhere.
Aka 3 am anywhere in Ireland

Khabib had to at some point join in as he wasn't about to just sit there for an hour while Conor ranted and promoted his whiskey.

He called him a terrorist sympathizer. He was a member of a jihadist group Muslims of the Americas.

He's also just about the most corrupt piece of shit alive.

The only question that had a real answer from McDickhead was the Nate vs. Dustin one.

He just came across as an idiot, coming from any angle possible to get under Khabib skin.

His act is boring now.

He's a terrorist informant for the FBI

Agreed. It was vaguely entertaining in the Aldo and Diaz 1 promotions but it gets old quick.

There really needed to be fans there. It just wasn't the same without the atmosphere - I think it's why it felt forced at times.

Agreed. It just felt so weird without them and the atmosphere, Connor just seems to work better with a crowd, watching him there it just comes across forced and fake. (not that he isn’t quite fake)

What was that about?

The vast majority of Irish people speak English as their first language rather than their native Irish. McGregor himself obviously can't speak more than a handful of words in Irish.

Given McGregor was claiming his family were some sort of legendary Irish fighters who took on the English invaders, Khabib basically asked why McGregor could now only speak those foreign invaders' language rather than his own.

I remember McGregor slagging off RDA for adopting his "conquerors" language in the build-up to their fight. I wondered how long it would take someone else to point out that he shouldn't be speaking in English in that case.

From Conor's perspective, the objective is to upset Khabib and get him so wound up he goes storming into the 1st round leaving openings Conor can exploit. The fans and entertainment side is secondary, so even if it is getting quite old for an audience, all that matters is whether it's going to have the desired effect on his opponent.

If Khabib is taken in by the talk and goes out there [too] eager to get his hands on Conor, he's going to sleep. Early.

Conor McGregor going for the accolade of P4P most cocaine ever inside a human.

Khabib is going to maul him. I’m certain of him now. Khabib looks focused yet relaxed. Also Conor causally calling Kadyrov a dictator (whether he is or he isn’t is for another discussion) and then sticking up for Putin. The man’s head is up his arse. He’s going to be beaten and badly.

All else aside, it's probably not a great idea to be drinking less than three weeks before the event.

In fairness, literally anything can happen. One wrong move by either could easily be an instant momentum changer. The obvious still applies - if things remain standing up then Conor could knock him out. If Khabib gets his hands on him then it will result in Conor getting smothered.

Insulting Kadyrov more or less guarantees Conor will never fight in Russia. Bad move.

Part of me hates myself for asking this but I wonder if McGregor's whiskey is actually any good? I've just assumed it was shite.

Have you been attending both their training camps then, or are the foundations from your prediction based around body language during a press conference?

From a more realistic point of view: this is incredibly hard to call. Coming out with predictions like that is just plain stupid. You never know how a fight is going to go. Conor has the knockout power, Khabib has the stamina and ground game as we all know already, 2 completely different fighters.

Conor can speak Irish.
