The MMA thread

Dana was never throwing Conor v Aldo in the bin if he turned down Mendes. They had millions invested. Saying that I can't see how Conor gets Aldo if Mendes wins. I could see Aldo saying no out if spite with an excuse like that
Mendes on no camp to get title in my opinion was far more favourable to McGregor than full camp Aldo.

Did Cruz retire?
Was hoping that TJ would get rematch vs him at some point, since i think TJ deserved the win in their fight.
Cody had no chance against TJ, and then gets a rematch, but when TJ lost (a very even fight) against Cruz, he doesn't get rematch.
Not really very fair for TJ, he's the only one who has something to lose now.

No, I believe he stepped back and didnt ask for a rematch. Sure if he had wanted one he would have got it though.

I suppose a more salient question is - why is Artem Lobov, a fighter with a losing MMA record, fighting in the UFC in the first place, much less getting booked for their biggest fight cards.

Remember, the UFC is a promotion who have previously let Bader, Mousasi, and Rory MacDonald leave and all three fighters have around a collective amount of career losses as Artem does just by himself. This was obviously Dana throwing a bone to the Conor posse to lure Conor back into fighting later this year. Turned out nicely didn't it.

The first fight was very good and Cody almost finished Dillashaw in the first round. No chance against TJ? Not sure where that one is coming from. Very good first fight. This will be a very good to great fight and probably an explosive finish. It's two of the top dudes going at it again. Only Cruz or Assuncao could have been in there ahead of Cody as Rivera is fighting Moraes soon, unless they did the MM/Dillashaw fight. Cruz had the injury issue that made him miss the Rivera fight, no clue what's going on with him right now. Assuncao and Dillashaw have history but personally I'd much rather see this fight instead of that.

Just sit back and enjoy the fight with this one.

Funny enough, I do like Conor and I don't actually mind his recent bout of hooliganism. As a fan I am frustrated at the hold up of this division and wanted some closure which he seems to keep obstructing, one way of another. Chicken is an extreme word but people said the same about Floyd for years, that he avoided certain guys through fear of tarnishing their legacies. Floyd at least defended titles for 20 years. McGregor seems like he wants to walk around and call himself the champ but not fulfil champ duties. He will be suspended, most like 6-12 months and then that's probably 700 days not defending his title and of course he would've been stripped by then as well :(. he will somehow call himself "the champ" despite this and claim "you never beat me" or "I never lost the title". It seems a bit of an act to me. Its like he is begging to get stripped.

Fair enough mate i feel similar, i wanted to see a few wars between Khabib, Ferguson and McGregor after Conor moved up to 155 but it's just not materialized. Conor fecking about with a boxing match played a big part of that but i doubt any other fighter would have turned down the opportunity. It's shit that as you say McGregor is most likely out of the picture for 1-2 years and i think Khabib could be retired by then.

Regarding Khabib, I fully expect him to claim the lightweight and then jump up to Welterweight. I feel he could dominate that division. He walks around over 185 and cutting would be much easier. Seeing how well Rafael is doing up there, makes me feel Khabib would be right at home.

I would love to see Khabib vs woodley. But i hope he makes at least a few defences first, the lightweight division has had enough fecking about with the title. Tonight's fight where only one guy can win the title is a bit of a farce, even if it's almost certain that Khabib will win.

I hear ya but I feel he has lost some of that initial hunger as he was trying to prove himself then.

Did McGregor decide to fight Mendes or was it put on him by Dana? I can't recall a fighter recently pulling out of a main card, because his opponent gets injured. Its just standard procedure nowadays. Look at the lightweight fights arranged for this weekend! Mendes was the one who took the chance as he had zero camp and no fitness (gassed in 2 rounds).
With the Diaz fight, again should he be able to pull out, after being put on the card? He was offered other fighters but Diaz bravely stepped up on short notice. I always give the benefit to the unfit man. Like when Bisping stepped in to fight Rockhold. Rockhold put it on the line (as expected) but lost his title to a stand in. Its common practice.
Part of me feels Dana would let him fight for the 155lb regardless of the Nate fight because you could sell it on the basis that he doesn't compete at 170lb. I know I sound like a hater (he is actually in my top 5) but I just feel him and Dana sell this image a lot more than it actually is "he'll fight anyone anywhere!"

I think ferguson wouldn't take another fight after Khabib missed weight last march. Might be a few others i am forgetting.

Agree, hope the rematch goes the same way, but alot more brutal.
Are there no other opponents for TJ? Is the division too small?

Agreed. Cody got really lucky getting the shot.

The chance should have gone to Jimmie Rivera. 5-0 in UFC, same as Cody when he got his shot at Cruz.

As for the rematch, i think its gonna be quite similar to the first one. Cody will have his puncher's chance, but if he can't finish it in the first one, TJ will pick him apart and finish him. TJ will probably be more careful this time around so i expect a even more dominant performance.

The presser yesterday was exactly like the last time around. Cody trying to trash talk just to get his clown ass handed to him.

I'm watching a presser for future fights on my stream. When did this take place (Cody/TJ, DC/Stipe etc)

Did he go over and shake TJ's hand, nearly hug him and have a chat once it's over, first time around as well

You know the card is shit when Rogan and Smith are chatting about Clay Guida's hair and Lauzon's IT skills.

If one fight can steal the FOTN award to Zabit/Kyle, is this next one. Should be fecking fire.

edit. well, fair to say it wont. slow first round.
