The MMA thread

Aye, ideally you'd have both just in case but generally speaking the last thing I'd want is for a fight to go to the ground. So easy for some sly fecker to throw in a kick out of nowhere when you're that easy a target. Striking and moving ftw.

In a real life fight that won't work. You'll end up in a clinch at some point regardless. Which is where being good at grabbling is vital. If only to stop yourself being taken down, or find a way to quickly get back up again. If you lack those skills, you're much more likely to end up on the floor getting your head kicked in.

those guys should remain backstage to be honest.

Anyway... watched the first episode of season 3 TUF Latin America, and as fecking usual, the chilean lost right away. One more in competition luckily.

16 guys, 8 per team, all lightweight. Only 1 winner. Coaches Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffin. Filmed in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In fairness Silva isn't that well known. He stands on stage at the weigh ins and is in the octagon at the end occasionally. He's hardly a huge presence. I don't blame people like him for wanting to go n stage etc during weigh ins. It's probably a perk of the job.

Most the UFC "backstage" people do remain backstage. It's only really Dana White and Dave Scholler that you hear from and White is the face of the backroom whilst Scholler has started doing more press conferences so it's justifiable they are there.

I recommend it to all. For all of Condit's striking abilities, he couldn't land one hit on Maia today. For one vs one fight (self defence), Jiu Jitsu will probably come on top every time.
Strongly disagree with this. A noble one on one, with unwritten rules, perhaps, but people bite, gouge, scratch, pull out weapons plus others quickly jump in if their mate is losing and unless you can quickly take the neck in those situations, you really want to keep as much distance from the assailant(s) as possible. I think BJJ gives some people a false sense of confidence in that they want to engage as quickly as possible, which could be a really bad idea in a street fight.

He was clearly taking the piss. Jaysis.

Good main event

Arlovski came back against all odds a couple of years ago and had a nice run. But thats 3 losses on the spin now for him

I'd like to see UFC give him another shot, as he is an entertaining fighter and always goes to finish

Was that Dan Hardy commentating? Man he was awful. Calling Bader 'Ilir Bader' then when other commentator said Latifi has 100% TD defense, he says "that's not the case anymore" but he was referring to attempted take downs. What a knob...

man the first fight of the new season of the ultimate fighter "champions saga" was fecking brilliant

Superb. Cejudo seemed genuinely torn.

Shit forgot about this

When was episode 1

I think everybody forgot about this, zero push for it, (which is a shame, every housemate being a champion is a pretty unique angle, the seeding system was also something fresh).

Find it quite interesting that 203 is in the same arena that Punk told Vince McMahon that he was leaving WWE and never came back. Wonder will that motivate him even more?

Quite looking forward to 203, although I have to tape it and see it the next day due to not having sky or internet in the house until the day after...

I reckon Punk will lose to Gall but will show some heart and win over some fans. If Gall loses, then that's his career over before it began. Interested to see how this pans out.

More importantly, my boy Overeem will finally get that UFC title!

I am more than ready for the Overeem era to start. Hope he'll defend in in Amsterdam like he wanted too.

I think his career is almost over before this anyway to be honest. They've shown hardly any coverage of him in the build up to it. Even if he beats CM Punk they'll probably just feed him to a semi decent fighter, he loses and gets cut. If he loses to Punk his career is fecked really, huge risk to take.

I'm in 2 minds about Overeem, heavyweight is a lottery really and I don't mind either fighter. Think Stipe might beat him though.

Is anyone wanting to go to the Manchester event by the way? If so the presale code on the Ticketmaster and Manchester Arena website is "MANCHESTER." Original I know.

Bisping is meant to be out at 3am mate. Main card will be about midnight I'd guess.

Show will be done for 4ish I'd imagine, it's annoying really but it's all for PPV in America.
