The MMA thread

Totally got into McGregors head....look at him scrambling to pick up the bottles....should of just sat there....gonna be a great fight.

Good that Diaz walked out like he did though. McGregor is taking the piss with once again turning up late, not the first time and I expect he did it on purpose too. About time somebody said "feck this shit" and just left him to it.

Diaz won the mind game war the first fight as well.

If you watched the few press conferences they did I think the turning point was when he started going on about Connor always needing the belt around.

"I don't give a shit about the belt"

yeeeeeaaah you do though.

He had a few good comments Diaz. In particular the one about how they've completely made up that he's a welterweight to give McGregor more kudos about stepping up 2 weight classes. Diaz has fought most his career at lightweight.

I do wonder how much effect this stuff really has on fighters though. In the heat of the moment Conor was probably pissed off. I dunno if he'd be that arsed now though. Even interviews after the water throwing he didn't seem bothered. I can't think of many times mind games have really affected a fighter, the only time I can think off the top of my head is Carl Froch vs. George Groves in boxing. Usually most of it is for show.

Even if it's planned, does that make any difference? They end up all looking like tits.

Yeah they probably do. It's all a bit theatrical but still funny to watch. It'll sell a shit load of PPVs and with both Diaz and McGregor getting PPV points for the fight I doubt they'll be to worried about looking like tits at the end of it.

Rumble and Glover being a complete contrast to Diaz and McGregor is another funny part of it, being nice to each other all the way through and then next thing you know they're both sat on stage with water and energy drinks flying everywhere.

When you put it like that

Mcgregor will lose all credibility if he loses to Diaz again. It will be like when Sonnen talked all the smack to Anderson and lost.

Would love a five round fight. Can't see McGregor winning to be honest.

Not really though, he drops back down and defeats Aldo again (which I think he will) before returning to lightweight... Maybe fight Johnson.

Hahaha what a prick. Set up to get himself knocked out there, even Dana looked embarassed.

He doesn't, he's still a champion and if he beat Aldo again he'd easily be the best fighter in a division. Like Diaz says as well the UFC is really pushing the "fighting a welterweight" thing so he'd probably just go to lightweight.

If he loses again, he will just be another big mouth who can't back it up. He stock rose so quickly because he was beating opponents with ease while talking smack. A 2nd lose would be devastating. He's created a target on his back and every fighter will use his back to back defeats against him.

The cut from 170 to 145 is going to be brutal for him as well. There is no way he's going to beat Aldo so easily again.

However If he wins then he's going to be an even bigger star!

If he loses it could wind up a downward spiral - as in he will be staring down the barrel at 3 consecutive losses when he faces Aldo. Where to after that ?

On the other hand, beating Nate would mitigate much of that. Something will have to give tonight as Nate almost never gets knocked out or finished and Conor almost never goes the distance.

He'll be a big mouth with a world title though...until he loses that he always has that to fall back on. If he lost 3 in a row I'd agree his stock will of fallen dramatically. There's always interest in that Aldo rematch cos of how the last fight ended, the rematch will still do huge numbers I reckon even if he lost to Diaz. If he then beat Aldo again he'd be back to where he was pre Diaz probably and there'd be interest in seeing him at lightweight.

In fairness to him who predicted he'd beat Aldo so easily the first time? You can't say there's "no way" he'd beat him easilyt again, UFC in particular this year has shown us anything can happen in MMA!

Agree re the last point, whoever wins this fight it's really set up for them to make some huge pay days on the back of it. UFC top brass probably wouldn't mind Diaz winning really I'd guess. I don't think Conor suffers thatm uch from a loss but I'd say Diaz would really, there wouldn't be huge interest in him without a win.

Gorilla Productions (boxing fans will likely know his work) has done a good video on Conor...

I can't fecking wait. I hope Nate wipes the floor with Conor but I could see it go the other way somehow.

Genuine question - why do you prefer diaz? Prefer his style or just want to see conor shut up?

I bought into the conor hype train and wanted to see him nail diaz against the odds of jumping 25lbs.

McGregor is an avid Manchester United fan as as a young lad rarely was he seen outdoors not wearing his Utd jersey. You should be ashamed of yourself, Vato.

edit - bollocks, you're a Real Madrid fan.

How is Nate the underdog in this fight? Debating between putting money on him to win inside 5 rounds (+188) or just win outright at +110.

Its hard to predict this. As mentioned before Nate almost never gets knocked out or finished and Conor almost never goes the distance, so something has to give.

Just like last time, if Conor doesn't get the job done in the first or second, chances are pretty good Nate's cardio, reach advantage, and jiujistsu will become a big advantage in the later rounds.
