The MMA thread

I dont see the logic they (rogan) are using. Rousey got knocked out decisively and they couldn't wait to give her a rematch.
But because it was quicker for Aldo, he shouldnt get one? What?

It's 2:06pm Sunday here. I've been awake since 8:15am Saturday morning and after watching City spoof a win against Swansea, United self-harm their way to a loss in Bournemouth and Munster perform like flaky teenage girls against Leicester at Thomond Park, I'm glad that I kept the faith and stayed up for this. Next stop: Monday morning.

Something like this would have been funny.

I think 'some' people might try to make the point, it was the first punch he threw. If that had happened 2 minutes into the round, after both fighters had a chance to suss each other out - they wouldn't call it lucky or a fluke.

I don't go along with that. Aldo knew what Conor was all about and he left himself open to that, it was the perfect shot.

Conor talked the talk and backed it up when it mattered.

I don't know what to say except

Stayed up all night for 1 punch. Aldo just logged scared and hunch backed.

Nobody is getting a rematch. McGregor is moving up and will vacate the belt IMO, too much money to be made and Edgar hasnt the star power to risk a loss.
Edgar v Aldo for the vacant title IMO, possibly UFC 200

Yesdssssssssssssss! I can't believe that. Definitely need a rematch for the fans!

Go on conor!

Never seen such a contrast in demeanor between two fighters before a fight - Aldo looked like he was bricking it.

Any real mma fans and the Irish will not feel short changed that's for sure

I think that is honestly one of the greatest sporting moments in Irish history.

They already built up the match twice, if they didn't I would be calling for a rematch too. I want to see McGregor fight someone else first

I see him overreacting, overextending and then being knocked out unconscious"
"within the first exchange he will be knocked out." - Conor Mcgregor

Holy shit..

I thought he was being smart. He didn't want to look at him at all and fall for his mind games

Connor needs to stop hurting himself with this crazy weight cuts and step up with the big guys.

He punches like a welterweight, bring it to the next level man.

feck vacating, McGregor will be the first to hold every single belt at the same time, he'll even top it off by getting a sex change and winning the women's ones too.

No you couldn't. I'm going to assume you're not a heavywight boxer so Tyson could take a punch from you with his hands behind his back. Conor's left hand is famous. He landed it and knocked him out. There's no argument anymore. He talked the talk and emphatically walked the walk tonight.

I wasn't being 100% serious about Tyson, just a bit of hyperbole to prove the point which still stands. Anyone can knock anyone out if you connect in the sweet spot with the perfect punch. All the hype and build up and it's over after one punch so surely there'll be a rematch. It's not like Aldo is some bum who just got taught a lesson and doesn't deserve a rematch. He's still one of the best.

BTW, you don't need to be a heavyweight to knock out a heavyweight. Speed and precision every bit as important as sheer power.

It's something he clearly wants to do and is not hiding the fact, he already has mad numerous enemies in that division by being himself

DOn't think MMA is big enough for it to be recognised as such. But as regards Irish sports people on a global scene, he's easily been the most impressive.

There is no logic when you look at it like that.

The only logic the UFC uses is what makes them the most money.

Reading the salty posts on twitter is giving me a right laugh here. Oh man I'm up for the day now. So fricking happy!

"Just wait until Edgar gets his hands on McGregor la" I love the internet.

Aldo doesn't deserve a rematch. Completely destroyed and Conor has other people to fight and the UFC know it so need to make as much money off him as possible.

Just noticing Herb Dean giving Aldo a knee to the face as well

It's fecking sweet

We have a few on here too but I'm too hammers to remember who they were

The last bit is exactly what McGregor said, which is exactly why it's no fluke. He's repeatedly finished people with that left hand and each time was down to precision, accuracy and timing rather than pure raw power. The fact that it happened within 13 seconds this time doesn't suddenly make it lucky.

Power is a huge factor. You don't need to be a heavyweight to knock out a heavyweight, but considering the shots heavyweights can take and stay standing, you'd need to be a very powerful fighter.

I never said he doesn't deserve a rematch. But he shouldn't get a rematch on the basis that this fight ended so quickly. That would be inferring that McGregor got lucky. McGregor landed a punch that Aldo couldn't deal with it. He won the fight impressively.

I actually hink he should get a rematch. He's been a great champion and deserves a shot at redeeming himself.
