The MMA thread

Joe is right that he was just walking forward like an idiot though, about a minute before Travis was hitting him with similar kicks and he was just standing there

Maybe Mario gave him more time since he let that knee go while the guy was on the ground.
Maybe?! Kinda makes sense.

Exactly the same as with Bigfoot.... Ridiculous, guy must have taken a few too many headshots.

It really is man

I know he's a bit of a dick and I don't like him much, but he could have been absolutely quality but he just does stupid things all the time

I think Overeem must be fairly thick. How can he make the exact same mistake he made in the Silva fight?

Anyone think the ref stopped it a little early?

I still think Anderson would beat both of them. No titles, just get them in a ring. I also don't think Sonnen would offer enough of a fight to Weidman for him to even consider it.

Got more front than Brighton though has Sonnen; he's genuinely amusing

I think you're underestimating how good Sonnen actually is!

Quite possibly. I don't know enough about Wanderlei Silva, but I'd fancy Sonnen to beat him. I still think AS would be all three though if it came to it.

I didn't think that Reem was out. I must have a look at it again.

Looked it to me. Head went, no defence whatsoever.

Anderson's the best ever. I'd back him in 99% of fights. Sonnen has basically won every round he's been in with him though. Two mistakes cost him. Sonnen would have a great chance but I couldn't back against Silva.

I think Sonnen beats this Wanderlei. But Wanderlei in his prime would have been a different proposition.

Reem was knocked down with the kick and then Browne hit him only twice more. He didn't defend but I thought he was about to. I thought he'd just recovered from the kick. As I said, I need to look at it again, if he was knocked out at any stage then fair enough. If not, then I think he could have been given a few more seconds.

Great card anyway. I really enjoyed that. You should join that fantasy league that we set up.

If you send us a link I'll have a look, but I don't watch enough of the undercards to have a broad enough knowledge of the sport. Tends to primarily be main events unless I've heard a particular fight was worth watching.

Wanderlei and Shogun have their place as MMA legends. They owned Pride and their decline at the moment is pretty much due to the damage they took in their heydeys. These guys are warriors. Wand fought a cro cop for Christ sake. Sonnen would just be remembered as entertaining guy and not a legend.

That brings us to a good question. Is better to fight safe/technical ala GSP and pro-long your career or brawl like Shogun/Wand/Lidell in their prime and burn out in your early 30s.

Wand used to fight 'no holds barred in brazil' before Pride - headbutts, stoms, knees to grounded head....the guy has taken a serious damage over these years. Its best for him and shogun to retire rather than going down the Gary Goodidge route.
