The MMA thread

I know the general MMA community loves the Dagestani boys but man I hope they get sparked out one day - their attitude really rubs me the wrong way.

Proper 1850's mentalities.

This is some of the worst TDD ever. The other guy was changing levels at 5mph and Almeida couldnt even sprawl properly.

Came up on the Twitter update the broadcast posts that someone bet 70k on Almaeda? ( the guy who fought Kopylov). Basically got dominated the whole fight.

Also was that a tap in the Holland fight? Didn't look like it to me. Herb on the herb perhaps

So interested to see how Islam deals with Dustin. Interested in how Dustin fights too. He felt Khabib throwing him around and that guillotine attempt looked good but Khabib said he was playing possum, so to speak. By alot of accounts Islam isn't as strong as Khabib, Volk was expecting some freak strength but was said that he actually isn't. I'm pretty sure Gaethje, Dustin have said he (Khabib) is the strongest LW theyve ever fought. DC and Rockhold concur in how strong he was.

But if Islam wins comfortably then surely there is a argument that he is avtually better than Khabib. Khabib mauls everyone, granted, but Islam can wrestle and his striking is lethal too.

Damn. A lot of hype behind that brazilian guy (defeated Alex Pereira in kick boxing) but this was his real first test in high level MMA.

ps. Never a tap! he was reaching for an arm to grab in my opinion. Herb back on the herb for sure.

Dustin was so good tbh. Islams face proves it. But Islam for me is better than Khabib. I think he'd handle the mauling whereas Khabib wouldn't handle a high level sambo fighter that is also ridiculously good at striking.

Yeah, to Islam’s credit, he always tries to engage his opponent in standup more. Khabib would’ve shot and executed most of the fight on the ground.

Fun fight. Dustin's daughter was so brave trying to hold back tears. Still don't think you should bring young kids to fights but I think having her there has helped him keep it together himself.

Islam vs Arman is going to be fight of the year I think.

Exactly. He's very unique in being such a good striker whilst also being a former sambo world champ. The two don't really go hand in hand. Khabibs cousin Usman is an amazing striker but quite average when it comes to wrestling/sambo. Khabibs striking was so awkward but his ground game is the absolute best.

Abdulmanap always said Islam was his favourite and its easy to see why.

Dustin died very well and gave Islam a proper fight. They might have underestimated him but he improved his ground game so much since Khabib

Islam is the much more complete fighter but Khabib was just ruthless and brutal on the ground. Undefeatable

I want whatever Dave's on...

Dustin did as well as he can and had a great career. Islam is just really good and will be hard to beat. But he's not unbeatable. He does get hit a fair bit.

Gotta be politics or religion. Apart from those two things, they seem like quite decent folk.

absolute hypocrite.
Preaches peace, family man, self respect, self control

Pays homeless man to do pushups and then laughs at his form
His whole weird stuff with kadyrov
Sends out goons to beat up people who challenges him or calls him out in Dagestan

amongst many other things

That was the most absurd thing of the night when those scores were announced as Strickland literally walked him down all five rounds and barely got hit

Costa was knocked down multiple times and constantly back peddling. that fight wasn't even close

honestly thought Islam would submit Dustin by the second round...turned out to be a hell of a fight and when it got to the fifth i actually thought Dustin could win the fight but Islam finally got his takedown where he could submit him. Khabib is the best wrestler ever but Islam is the better MMA fighter.

Is it possible you simply don't like him because he's Russian; and you are, as you've previously stated in the CE, half Ukrainian ?

No, I love Zabit, but he seems very different from the other Dagestanis in the way he behaves. Actually humble and not fake humble.

I used to really like volkov and will stay up to watch Pavlovich fight.

fedor is my 2nd fave fighter of all time

I can segregate what the Russian state is doing to their athletes. I don’t believe in collective punishment

I like Zabit, Ankalaev, and Islam as well. Khabib simply came up in the UFC during the peak Conor years where marketing was more important. Fighters that have a go at him outside the Octagon usually receive a response, such as the incident with the Diaz brothers, then later the Artyom/Conor dolly throwing incident and subsequent post Conor fight attack on Danis.

As for the Kadyrov thing. I don't really think he has much of an option. After all he lives in neighboring Dagestan and can't afford to piss off the Chechan dictator, who himself runs his own MMA league. Therefore its best to go through the motions and meet with him from time to time. It may seem unseemly to some outside observers but probably not to those in the Dagestan/Chechnya area, just as it doesn't seem strange for Khabib to meet with Putin after his big wins.

Wasn't even the worst scorecard of the night

See, that's thing that bothers me the most. How many other fighters roll around with 20 goons everywhere they go, threaten fighters when they're on their own over some wanton comment on twitter, start multiple brawls and then jump kick a crowd member after he won a fight.

It's disgusting behavior. The only other person who does this was Connor Mcgregor, and he's also a monumental piece of shit.

I don't think the Dagestan/Chechnya reason works anymore, because he himself admits that he spends most of his time in San Jose where he is a coach for many of the Dagestani fighters.

Ruins every event how they keep inviting him

because Dana is a major Trump fan and friend

it has completely turned me off the sport in recent years and it’s for very political that he appears and gets so much attention at events.

its also weird how big he was in New Jersey which I thought was not really a red state. It’s also concerning how the likes of Kevin Holland jumped over the fence to greet him

id actually like to hear @Raoul opinion on stuff like this, from any outsider looking in…it appears he is far and away the most popular candidate and yes appears he is ahead in the polls. But we all know on election day the actual results are always pretty close in the end.

Would love to know what was Trump thinking while being lectured by Khabib.... nasty words come to mind.

ps. Pretty sure big parts of the stadium booed Trump but they just shut off the mics from those areas.

Dana is a major Trump backer, as is Rogan to a slightly lesser degree.

I get it. I am a NASCAR race fan as well and the hate that gets spewed when they post something about Pride month or Bubba Wallace is horrific. For UFC, I imagine the fan base as a bunch of Bro Guys that follow Joe Rogan like he is a genius and Andrew Tate like he is a role model.
It's hard to disassociate the sport from the fan base but I am trying.
