All I want is for Joe to interview Colby and say “ok hard luck on your loss, here’s GSP with some dinosaur facts” and Georges comes into the octagon and starts talking about his favourite fossils and Colby has to sit there and listen

I kinda always want the fighters from the same part of the world as me to win, but some of these guys from GB makes it really hard to like them.

My bad, i thought Covington was British, don't know why, maybe because he's cocky

Great event. For me Gaethje vs Chandler fight of the year.
Rose showed great courage to come back from a tough start, and Colby (Although I hate the character he plays) showed he's elite but Usman is on another level

My fight of the year is still Volkanovski vs Ortega.

Agree about Usman though, wouldn't be surprised to see him retire after another fight or two - just don't think there's anyone in the division that can challenge him. He'll eventually get bored, if he isn't already. I guess we'll have to wait and see is Chimaev is that challenge, though.

Rose is far from the strongest in that division, but her technique is just out of this world. Movement, openings, precision, setting up traps... probably the most naturally gifted fighter out there. When you count that she was seen more as a grappler at the start, it's even more impressive.

That being said, this was extremely close and 49-46 from one judge is an absolute joke. Thought Rose just edged it in that final round, but judging it 48-47 for Zhang is also fair. Wouldn't mind a trilogy.

Colby is cringe as feck, but that was an admirable performance. Happy they showed each other respect in the end.

Gaethje X Paddy Pimblett would be an absolute thriller. But since Gaethje will probably fight the winner of the title fight, Chandler X Pimblett is a must...

Probably zero chance Paddy gets either of them next though.

Covington should try his hand at middleweight, I can't see him ever beating Usman and Kamaru will probably retire before meeting him again.

As well he shouldn’t. He isn’t even ranked and should be considered for a better opponent who is in the 10-15 rank range.

I'm not sure what they do with Usman here is Leon loses against Masvidal. There aren't really many contenders in the welterweight division that he hasn't faced and beaten. And it's too early to give Chimaev a shot.

Gaethje will face the Poirier Vs Oliveira winner and we could have a big rematch after Dustin knocked Justin the last time they faced each other.

Dana etc saying it's too early for Chimaev to get a title shot but the reality is the division is looking thin at the top now. Usman came through at a good time and beat fighters like Woodley and RDA who were both declining massively. Burns almost knocked him out. Masivdal is always game but realistically isn't as great as they've built him up to be. His main wins are against Covington. Nothing against Usman who's a very talented fighter but I really don't think we've seen him tested outside of Covington. Nobody wants to see Usman/Masvidal 3 so the only real fight to make at the top is Edwards/Usman 2 if he can get through Masvidal.

So really when you look at it, who is there? It's Edwards or Chimaev, I don't see what other fight you can make for Usman. Burns has only had one fight since his loss to Usman, can't throw him in there. Masvidal lost twice comfortably. Covington needs to fight a few different fights to build himself back up. It's literally Edwards, Chimaev or a superfight. I'd honestly get Chimaev in there with one of the top ranked guys as soon as possible and if he pulls it out of the bag you've got a game fight in him and Usman. It'll all come down to what happens between Edwards/Masvidal. They really need Chimaev waiting in the wings though in case Masvidal spoils the party and beats Edwards.

I'd quite like to see Covington against Masvidal, would be a cracker.

Colby should look at moving down, not up. He’s got no power at WW as it is, he’d get massacred moving up

Good God...

Izzy knocks him out easy.

Possible. But it's also possible Colby just takes him down all night like Blachowicz did. Unless it was Jan's weight that made the difference.

Either way, I think he wants to fight Masvidal and Poirier.

He seems like someone the UFC is interested in fast tracking. Let's see what they will do.

I think they want to build a new star in the english market. Since Bisping retired they haven't really had one.

Yeah Masvidal next would be a fun fight.

Colby looked small against Usman. The size difference is going to be staggering when it comes to Izzy, particularly with Adesanya's reach. I don't think that would even be a contest. Adesanya would steamroll him without getting out of third gear.

Covington's best bet is to move down and face 155 pounders. Having said that, I think Poirier, Gaethje, and Makachev would all beat him.

Had to watch this in the early hours of today but somehow managed to avoid every spoiler.

Gaethje vs. Chandler aka rock 'em sock 'em robots  I love fights like this... proper barn-burner... like playing the UFC video game and the block button isn't working! I wish Chandler came to the UFC earlier. He will rack up some more wins before he's done but he's one of those guys that doesn't need wins to up hisstanding as a blockbuster fighter. Really fun fight to kick off the event and went exactly as we all though it would. Gaethje needs to get the next title shot. I reckon they'll do Chandler v Makachev next. This is why I love the UFC. Brilliant.

I remember Chandler saying when he first came to the UFC "I'm not here for a long time but I'm here for a good time"... I'm not sure I classify getting punched in the face by Gaethje a good time but these warriors are cut from a different cloth!

Rose rallied back to win but I seriously though it'd be a draw. Zhang won 1 & 2, Rose 4 & 5. Round 3 was the clincher and I thought that round was dead even. Despite the win, I for some reason feel Zhang is the better fighter? Not sure why but I'm glad Rose got it done.

The main even looked like it was going to be one-way traffic but fair fecks to Colby, really showed the heart of a warrior to come back and it put a smile on my face when they gave each other respect at the end.

Oh, and poor Edgar :(

Yeah right now he's stuck in no man's land. Edwards X Usman or Chimaev X Usman should be better fights anyway. If Masvidal somehow wins, they're totally giving Khamzat the shot.

Edgar looked good in the first round actually. He can win a fight as long as he avoids getting tagged by these heavy shots.

Edgar looked ok but it's very hard to avoid being hit for 15 minutes. Everytime he was hit he looked stunned. There's no way he could make a title run, which is what he was talking about. Yan would destroy him.

It's Colby v Masvidal once Masvidal has any bit of a showing against Edwards.

Colby is simply a better fighter than Jorge though. Unless Masvidal lands a flying knee from hell, he's going to get outworked all night.

I think wonderboy would be a tougher matchup for Colby.

Agreed. Covington is quite comfortably the 2nd best fighter at WW and would almost certainly be the champ if Usman didn't exist.

I don't expect Usman to stick around much longer after having cleaned out the old champ (Woodley), as well as the #1 contender (twice) as well as other top contenders like Burns and humiliatingly KO'd Masvidal (also beating him twice). I don't think there's much appetite for a third Masvidal fight should Jorge beat Edwards, whereas an Usman v Edwards fight would stylistically, be somewhat interesting and give the Usman v Chimaev fight a bit more time to develop. Although I believe Kamaru murders him then retires.

I think Usman could go for the middleweight title eventually if Adesanya makes a permanent move up. I'm sure Izzy has it in the back of his mind to go after Jon Jones at some point.

But at Welterweight, should Usman beat Edwards and Chimaev, there's not anything else interesting.

I doubt it. I think Usman is good for another year of cleaning out WW then setting himself up for a potential big money boxing match with Canelo or the like, prior to retirement. Izzy has already proven he's not LHW material.

Why not LHW material ? The fight with Jan was competitive. Like, he didn't get outclassed or outworked.

Yeah but he lost and there are now a new wave of top LHWs coming into top form. Izzy would get swept aside and wind up closer to mid table than at the top. He should stay at MW for at least another couple of years then decide what's next.

What the feck, I thought that was fake.
Nah mate, his whole face got rearranged there for a second. I love Frankie and hope he stops fighting. He has nothing to prove. Made his money and been champion. Won't get there again as the likes of Yan would absolutely kill him. He's liked enough and popular enough to get a decent gig with the UFC like Dominick Cruz or Paul Felder. Frankie is probably one of the most popular legends of the sport and hate him being a part of every other fighters' highlights package :(
