The Manchester Title Race

I am confident United will finish top but nervous because its City that wins if we fail.....just don't want the aggravation of emails and phone calls from the father-in-law.

It's City's title to lose. We can only hope they slip up and we capitalise.

That is not necessarily true. They have an average away record and more away games remaining. They have to play four of the top six, while United only have to play one. Then you factor in United experience during the run in.

Its as much United to lose at this stage IMO.

.... and you seemed to have missed mine.

It was simply a metaphor, I wasn't really comparing anyone to Barcelona, just the scenario of being a couple of points behind with an easy game or a couple of points behind with a much easier game.

The point you missed was that some people find it more favourable to have a run in of 11 matches where you feel you are odds on favourites to win 10 of them while being 2 points behind and the highest positioned team you have yet to play is Fulham at home who are 8th, than it is to be 2 points ahead with 4 or the top 6 yet to play.

People say points in hand are worth more than games in hand but I'm not so sure.

The fact is we have played 9 of our 10 games against the top 6 and picked up 17 out of a possible 27 points. That's points in hand for us.

City still have 4 of those 10 games yet to play, thats nearly half of the seasons toughest games yet to come. Do you expect them to get 12 our of 12 points in those games? How about Stoke Away? West Brom have the 3rd best Away record in the League and they have still yet to play them at home....

We may be two points behind but I'd rather be in this position than in theirs.

Again I'll ask you, what guarantee do you have that City won't do what Utd have just done the past 7 games? There is none and thus, any football manager worth his salt will always tell that having points in the bag is better than possibly getting points since anything is possible in football. That's my point. I still think we'll take it, doesn't mean we're CURRENTLY in a better position than City since they've got the points and the lead. Then again, all of this could change by Sunday this week. I'm certainly holding thumbs for it. If for example City lose or draw and we win this weekend...well...

That's not what we were talking about. Whether they're top or not while the gap remains less then 3 points up to the derby both will be in control of their own destiny. Of course if they are still top come April 30th they'll be favourites. Who's been stupid enough to say different?

They're currently top. And if they keep getting better results than us all the way till the end of the season, well then they win don't they?

Meh, I'm not getting too carried away just yet. I want us to have our noses ahead. I'd much rather prefer that.

Your still not talking about the same thing. Both team's fate's are in their own hands.

All these people saying we have easier games remember this: City have beaten both their nearest challengers (so basically the two strongest teams they could possibly play) away from home, scoring 11 goals in the process. And we've lost at home to one of the poorest teams in the league. It's going to come down to how each club approaches each individual match on the day.

Errr...maybe you should jump back a few posts to see where all this started and maybe you'd get what I'm saying.

And going with your statement, which is true, that still puts City in a better position AT THIS VERY MOMENT than us since they're 2 ahead and play us at their home where they've a 100% record in the league.

Anyhoo, my last post in this thread. I've made my thoughts known.

United have won at city once this year, no reason we can't repeat.

It's City's title to lose. We can only hope they slip up and we capitalise.

No it isn't. Not only have they not won anything yet for them to lose, but we are not reliant on anybody other than ourselves.

Winning the league is still 100% in our own hands.

No it's not and it's that mentality that's going to feck me off big style if we do win the league. Away to Swansea, Norwich, Stoke & Arsenal and at home to us and Chelsea are not guaranteed wins for any side in the league. City are where they are at the moment because of the fixtures they've played thus far, they've got 6 massively tough games in their run in

 No idea who this, how old it is, whether or not it's been posted before, or where to post it, but here:

I wouldn't agree with that to be honest. They're favourites at the moment, but only by a very slight margin. I'm sure they'll be gutted if they don't win it, but unless they build up a much bigger lead, they won't be gutted in a way of thinking that they threw it away.

Let me know if you spot any mistakes, I did it by hand (well you know what I mean), but by my reckoning that is all the games both us and City have played. As it stands we both have 51 points from the 20 games (2.55 points a game), however our goal difference is 42 while theres is 32, this can be explained by the fact our thumping of Arsenal is here but their thumping of us isn't.

I know most of you wont care, but chances are there is someone on this forum who is as sad as me and finds it interesting.

Kompany ruled out for a fortnight apparently, which must slightly heighten the chances of them dropping points over that period. Unfortunately they have Kolo Toure back now, so they won't have to resort to using Savic.

Back where we belong. Now lets keep the momentum going and who knows, maybe City's starting to shit it

Next five league fixtures:

Manchester City:
Chelsea (H)
Stoke (A)
Sunderland (H)
Arsenal (A)
West Brom (H)

Manchester United:
Wolves (A)
Fulham (H)
Blackburn (A)
QPR (H)
Wigan (A)

I said it after the Spurs match, we should be favourites after coming through that run. We are favourites now and I can only see the gap widening between now and the derby.

They'll be dropping more points in those games Damo, if we can put together a few wins on the bounce then the Eastlands game could end up being meaningless.

Thought they'd have more bottle than that frankly, first pressure game of the run in and they feck it up.

Captain obvious here. Big big weekend in the run in.

Swansea was never going to be easy but didnt expect them to win either. Brilliant result for us..

Holy feck. Is Kompany out for next week?

Seriously, if we don't feck it up we could be 7 points clear in the next 5 matches. Chelsea, Stoke, Arsenal and Sunderland are all hard matches for City.

Hopefully by the time they play Chelsea next Wednesday we'll be 4 points clear and the pressure is on them big time.

Yep. Our games aren't exactly easy even though they're against the sides towards the bottom of the table. We can't underestimate them but compared to City's coming games it's a great run and I think we play some of them before City play their fixtures too.

City fans must be concerned, they've been suffering bad form and it's not looking like it's getting any better. While we're coping magnificently with losing our best player, Vidic, I doubt they will cope as well without Kompany.
