The Make A Fecking Sub Ole Thread

Is anyone keeping tabs of the number of times Greenwood has been subbed off when he's been the best attacker? Doing my nut in this season.

The irony being if Ole was in charge in 1999 in Barcelona he’d have left himself on the bench and brought David May on

The state of some of the members posting in this thread this evening is embarrassing. The particular poster calling ole amateur for making no subs is a clown.

We are 2nd in the league this year...no one dreamed of this being out league position come February back at the start of the season.

Fans should have high expectations but some of you are brats if truth be told.

We are playing an inform hammers team, UTD have clearly dominated the match but struggled in the final third.

he’s a young player, and one that has tended to fade as games go on.

nothing wrong with the management of his game time.

He’s spectacularly conservative with his subs isn’t he? Straight swapping both full back for two full backs when we’re 0-0 is quite a statement that if any of our previous the managers did it would attract far more ire

Gave Rashford and Fred 120 mins. No Diallo and put Shaw on for no reason imo. Shocking in game management despite McTominays' goal

Could have given Diallo at least 15 minutes towards the end, both Martial and especially Rashford were knackered.

Sub scores winning goal.
Caf still criticises subs.

Terrible in-game management once again. Team roster and sub decisions were atrocious but we were bailed out by a spectacularly negative West Ham performance. Then again, they almost achieved what they set out to do. If they nicked a goal, it would have been game over for us with them parking the Titanic. We also have no system besides 'play Bruno', hence why we never look like breaking down any side determined to defend. We needed to tire out our entire team just to slog past the mighty West Ham at OT. Hopefully, this doesn't mean yet another lethargic performance on the weekend.

Williams AND Shaw

While our exciting attacker sits on the bench.
I don't always agree with Ole's decisions, but this was a good one.

Telles and Wan Bissaka had no energy left. Shaw is our best player and his dynamism was key as he won the ball back to initiate the attack for our goal. Williams did surprisingly well when he came on too, especially considering his lack of football recently.

West Ham made 6 subs.

They used a concussion substitute for Diop. We could have done the same but the rule specifically states that when a concussion sub is made the opposing team can make a sub at the same time so we would have had to have done it at half time. We opted not to so we remain with the standard 5 which we subsequently used.

Must have missed this bit, fair enough in this case.

Welcome to the Caf, the place where so called fans whine more after a win than other team's fans whine after a loss.

Not sure what some are upset over tonight with the subs.

Second half always looked like it was going to extra time and the coaches left it until an opportune time to make the subs.

We looked much fresher than them in extra time and got the winner with one of the players Ole brought on ffs.

I think it’s to do with slow substitutions more than anything , did he really need both Fred and Matic on for 70 mins? Quicker subs may have avoided the extra half hour

It's definitely this that the majority complain about, not the actual subs themselves

Yeah but it’s a bit of a non issue tonight considering the result and the impact one of the subs had.

Nobody knows how it would have played out if subs came on earlier, could have huffed and puffed and not had the same impact they had when the opposition had further tired.

They were the right subs to make. AWB couldn't manage 120 minutes on top of his workload, and Telles was having less of an effect as the game went on.

And he'd already brought on Fernandes, Cavani and the match winner McTominay. So the only attacking subs left on the bench were young wingers Amad and James - and we'd have had to take off proven attacking quality for those raw and inexperienced players. And then have to leave our tiring full backs on while weakening the attack at the same time.

The only thing Ole could have done differently with his subs was react to the poor start to the 2nd half, and West Ham's slightly better start to it, by bringing Fernandes and Cavani on earlier (hour mark or so) to try to prevent ET. I'd have preferred that, especially Fernandes for DvB, but he wasn't necessarily wrong to give them a bit longer to try to up their game.

His subs are quite strange and so delayed. It is so weird.
He sometimes doesn't make any attacking subs when we need goals. He makes some weird subs otherwise. And some players stay on no matter what form they are in.

Anyways, today we won with one of his sub. So I guess it worked.

Assisted by the player many wanted to be substituted.

Still, apparently Ole hasn't a clue and is worse than all these armchair managers.
That is why Ole is the gaffer, and the armchair managers are just that, armchair managers. With their 'in depth' football knowledge gained from Fifa they'll probably relegate PSG from Ligue 1.

Can’t believe Ole brought on Mctominay who scored the winner, disgraceful decision from the manager!

Us winning today doesnt change the fact that Ole takes way too much time to make the subs. Most of the times the subs are given very few minutes to impact the game.

Last season I understand it was because there was not much quality in the bench, but now I think we have a fairly strong bench. He needs to improve on this.

So anyone who posts his tactical opinion is an armchair manager who gained knowledge through Fifa only and not from watching the sport for decades. Nice. Might as well close this forum entirely and just post "glory glory Man United" during and post games.

This is what alot of our fans dont do enough of to be honest.

I always felt Ole takes too much time to make a sub then I saw this thread on Reddit.

No it isn’t. Had he just bought on Williams all night it’d still be perfectly legitimate to question that even if Wiliams ended up scoring the winner.

We swapped a forward for a forward.A holding midfielder for a holding midfielder and two full backs for two full backs. Even Fernandes for VDB in theory at least is similar to a straight swap traditionally.

Another game where we were tumescent and his only impact were like for like subs. Thinking the ends justifies the means is responsible for such a sickening lowering of standards

Like everything with Ole on here, posters think the grass is greener everywhere else, it's not.

These complaints are also all based on the assumption that the subs posters think should have happened would have definitely improved us.
