The Make A Fecking Sub Ole Thread

What a shocker. Play for penalties with a keeper who has now saved 0/36. Embarassing from Ole. It is clear his trust doesnt go beyond the first 11, but what the hell. Rashford almost ran himself into injury because of his shite play time management skills today and over the season

He’s not only the biggest coward at the club, he’s also one of the stupidest ones out there - playing for penalties with De Gea.

I've been revisiting this thread many times this season, and now it's time again.

Emery deserve the win today, Ole did not.

OMG!

Did he freeze and play for pen. Be brave and do something!

Mate, he's been managing for 10 years and not some intern on job experience.

It is what it is. Some need longer than other and Ole is one of them. He probbaly just figured out De Gea is not good at penalties and we have a problem with defending set pieces.

he is here for next season, so....

One of the most shocking decisions Ive seen a manager take - and we've had Jones on corners for crying out loud

All but one of his subs were geared towards penalties in a European final.

There is no defence. This “I’m constantly stunned at any sub made during a game that isn’t forced by injury on the basis that the 11 on the pitch are better players than those named on the bench” argument, to paraphrase it, makes no sense to me.

Let's be very clear. Ole is more responsible for that defeat than any single player on the pitch.

Hate to day it but 100% and I'm team Ole

What you ask for from a manager is to make the team better than the sum of their parts. Tonight noone in the final third put themselves on the line. Carrying Rashford was a massive failure. I would have prefered Amad in there.

With a low block you have to isolate defenders and exploit them. Rashford just recycled the ball all night

Yet fair play to our ten players who all scored their penalties.

First sub at 100th minute. Bravo. Really we are discussing how important mentality is for this football club to succeed, yet he completely shite his pants today as a manager and many times before. Really shit season. Second place is a never trophy, considering 12 points behind leaders with only 74 points. But yeah not another anti Ole rant yet he deserves it and really should walk.. I don't care who we hire he's not good enough, his stupid trust in lindelof and de gea lost him enough it's alone the reason to sack him for lack of judgement.

I think the signs his influence on the game is minimal has been there for a while. He sends a team out and for the next 45 minutes he may as well pop home and have his tea.

Just before Fred came on, all 10 of our outfield players had played 99 minutes each. 5/10 Villarreal players had about 20-30 minutes on the pitch. That's fecking mental

Ridiculous tonight.

And don't give me this not strong squad bollocks. There isn't a chance any of them on the bench would be worse then Rashford or Pogba tonight, especially coming off the back of decent performances vs. Wolves.

We absolutely gifted them Extra Time due to this. Instead of having 30 minutes to try and win the game, we had 30 minutes of trying to get a rest.

Today was pretty much everything I hate about him as a coach.

The guy's management in crucial games have been all fecking shit.

All these semi finals ? Shit.

Final today ? Shit.

Crucial games in CL group to go through ? Shit.

Go top of the league ? Shit our pants in the next several games and go out of title race.

Whenever it matters the most he fecks it up.

Yeah good luck enjoying top 3 and good cup runs regularly while fecking everything up when it fecking matters the most.

Yet he talks about attacking football and the United way. We surrendered our impetus for no reason and threw away that game.

It’s genuinely disturbing how often this kind of thing happens. Unacceptably slow and underprepared with substitutions.

If he was going to take Greenwood off and fetch Fred on I’d rather he didn’t bother making one.

How a manager who became famous as one of the greatest super subs of all time has no belief in them is mind boggling.

Pathetic from Ole tonight. No urgency, content to go to penalties. Content for his tired players to struggle to the 120th minute. I'm absolutely disgusted.

Ole’s decision making tonight was a major reason why we lost. Why didn’t he put fresh legs on straight after the 90 minutes?

I thought it must relate to penalty takers then decided to put on Dan James for Pogba with 5 minutes to spare. Why not give Amad ago? Van De Beek was a perfect option in tight areas? What message does that show that he didn’t want to bring a single player off the bench. Rashford should have been subbed before the 90 minutes. Instead he brings off Greenwood who was having a good game. This is the difference between winning and losing and that’s precisely why a lot of people don’t see Ole winning trophies.

He’s been in charge for two years. He hasn’t just walked in the door. If he looks at his bench and sees nobody he thinks can influence the game that isn’t on everyone else but him

He does not trust anybody on his bench. Are they that bad that they can’t even play for 30 min while some of our starters are gassed/run to the ground?? Why did we buy Telles and VDB if they’re so bad? They were starters in their former clubs? (I’m not only talking about tonight’s game).

If I said he has the worst in-game management of any manager I have seen in my 25 years watching football it would be an understatement.

He simply doesn't manage the team in-game. He sets up the team and that's it. Players get knackered, players get injured and he makes no subs. From the moment the team leaves the dressing room he's a spectator just like us.

That's still his fault. He bought Dan James. Rashford is having an absolutely shite game and looks completely gassed from 70' onwards and injured from about 100' onwards. He still doesn't bring James on.

Is Dan James so bad he can't even be tried when Rashford looks dead? Then why did he buy him? Is James actually decent? Then why is he not on bringing him on?

You could ask the same about Mata, Telles, VDB.

If this is not on Ole who is this on? Me?

I can't tell if you're being serious or not.

He probbaly just figured out De Gea is not good at penalties

That's a sackable offense if that were the case. It's also highly unlikely. How on earth could the manager of Manchester United not be privy to the statistical data of the team (in regards to penalties) in the lead-up to a cup final that might go down to... penalties. Either way, it's not a fantastic look for him, is it? If he was unaware, then he didn't do his due-diligence. If he was, then he still made the incorrect decision in playing for penalties/not subbing De Gea for a keeper that's more likely to see us through a shootout. If you're going to play for penalties (which was clearly the case before extra time even began), why pin your hopes on a keeper that statistically, isn't very strong in shootouts? Dumb.

Part of the problem today with the ‘subs’ is that he played all his cards from the start. If you need a goal, and you have Rashford, Cavani, Greenwood, Pogba and Bruno all on the pitch to start with, how do you change it?
So for me, the problem wasn’t that Ole didn’t make good subs, it was that the team he needed to play after 70min was already out there on the pitch and he left himself with very little room for positive change. An issue of poor team selection as opposed to poor subs IMO.

I agree with you, I was making the same point. The fact that he doesn’t trust the bench is his fault.

Bizarre management from start to finish really from Ole. I think he’s done a great job overall but that will just increase the question marks over his ability to win trophies.

Bottled the team selection, bottled the subs and seemed happy to take penalties from about 70 minutes!

He does not trust anybody on his bench.

Well nobody forced him to sign a pub footballer from the Championship. Or a VdB. So that's also on him. Btw my grandma would have done better than Rahsford today so that doesn't hold. He is simply out of depth
