Television The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

The writers wanted to keep the story in line with the movies, but Celeborn, Galadriels husband is in her own words slain? So he's dead now, so she can romance Halbrand?

Yep. Sauron's motivation for all does by Tolkien's hand is going to be because he's an incel

The fecking Mordor reveal

— Hey guys, we forgot to shoot Adar saying the name on camera
— Don't worry, we'll fix it in post

What a dreadful episode on the back of a really good one.

I'd imagine that he'll turn up at some point, otherwise they're breaking the overall lore. Judging by the quality of this show's reveals, it wouldn't surprise me if he suddenly appears right in the middle of a love scene between Galadriel & Halbrand.

The writing in this show is scandalously poor. You can hide some of it behind nonsensical spectacle as they did in the previous ep but they better have hired improved quality for the second season.

Did they have Galadriel and Theo nope out to the forest together leaving the other survivors behind just make a callback to the Nazgûl sniffing at the hobbits scene? And why create all this fake suspense over Isildur‘s survival? It’s like they also wanted to mimic the horse finding Aragorn scene.

They tried to do fan service paying homage to the movies but ended up just treating the audience like they’re idiots.

She thinks he's slain, but she clarified she simply hasn't seen him since he went to war. He's off shagging imo.

"Contrived" doesn't do it justice! Oh look, everyone survived the apocalypse... just like with every near-death experience. Oh, but the Queen turned into Neo. Grand.

Surely the Dwarves get to mine a shit load of Mithril before the Balrog is encountered? Can't believe it got woken up by a leaf
Yeah this was my problem with what happened in the episode. The Balrog should not be awake currently if they're gonna mine more to free it.

Not everyone survived but at least one other character with speaking lines should have been killed.
The friend died.
And they want the unknowing to think Isildur died.

Yeah I’ve got to agree. Nothing I dislike more than a fake out death and they seem to be doing at least one an episode.

Good writing can even make you fear for characters you know will live, but that’s taken away by constantly letting characters you don’t know off the hook.

Technically he could be revived from the hall of mandos

Finally caught up with the last 2 episodes. Holy shit, it is bad.
Story is nonsensical and contrived. Dialogue is crap. So many characters are so, so unlikeable. I think the only likeable characters are Elendil and Nori's friend. And even Elendil becomes an idiot at the end.
And the only likeable story element is the Elrond-Durin bromance.
Everything else is such lazy and contrived story telling. So, so stupid. And no. Volcanos don't work that way. :wenger::lol:

I liked that episode, at least for the most part.

Then I go on Reddit etc and I see it's being trashed

It doesn't really help if you have ever watched or read lord of the rings: you will know what happens. That is a fundamental issue with prequels when characters from it are involved in the main story. It happens if you read The Hobbit or The Silmarillion after the The Lord of the Rings; you know who will survive for certain.

I don't think Isildur being dead is supposed to be a mystery like people are thinking here. It is just an in-story mystery, where only the characters are supposed to think he is dead, not particularly the watcher. It is clearly being used as a tool to have Elendil oppose the Queen in Numenor, and to keep Isildur away from Numenor for a bit of time. Guarantee Isildur will be back in the next episode.

Laughed hysterically when Eminem with tits burned hobbit's apples just after Gandalf healed them.

Had a feeling the 80s came back and I'm watching episode of Alf.

I rather liked that episode. King Durin actually gets Tolkien pretty well. And Oh Halbrand has to go to Linden for A&E what a surprise. We all know what Celebrimbor is going to do with that lump of Mithril and guess who will be helping....

Volcanoes also don’t create/forge one rings, nor do wizards fly down to Earth on comets, dwarfs don’t really mine for crazy life saving minerals.

Well presumably Mout Doom will stop erupting at some point and then the orcs will need their hats and suncream again?

Defs, I’ve been to Tongariro and can confirm the ash is gone and that volcanoes do stop spouting ash and lava, so yup, the poor orcs will be fecked again soon and will need to whack that factor 50 back on.

Sorry orc fellas but that’s just how a volcano works.

I'm not particularly opinionated on this but that episode was so bad I am now.

As in water and magma combining doesnt result in an eruption?

Yeah there wasn’t much to really like about that.

I'm so confused it was actually quite a decent episode compared to the idiocy of the last one. Disappointed that Bronwyn is still alive but you can't have everything.

As in water and magma combining doesnt result in an eruption?

Well it can but not that kind of eruption and you need a lot more water and a pressurised chamber and blah blah. Let's not go there. It's magic innit.
