The leaks against the manager 2023 edition

Literally in the same article:

Certain United players feel they have been put in an invidious position to carry out Ten Hag's tactical instructions.

After the Bayern loss, Ten Hag criticised the ease with which Leroy Sane bypassed Marcus Rashford before scoring the opening goal.

"If you see how easy Sane is going through and that has to do with determination, you don't let players through so easy. That is the point - we have to cross the line as an individual and as a team to win games because it started there.

"That's what I mean, you have to suffer, sacrifice in situations, to give everything and to stop that and only when we get that in are we going to win games.

"The way Sane came through can't be."

Luckhurst had this exclusive last year, which turned out to be true. Contains a classic 'sources say'. Rashford and his camp did eventually confirm they were considering leaving around this time and The Athletic backed up the Barca interest.

Marcus Rashford is considering his future at Manchester United after he was left out of the starting XI for the defeat to City. Rashford's role on the bench was particularly striking in the absence of fellow forwards Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood.

Sources say Rashford is training well and in good spirits but concede it is not transmitting to matchdays.

Weeks later another 'sources close to the player' story:

A source close to Rashford says the 'phone hasn't stopped ringing' since it emerged he was considering his future at United after he was left out of the Manchester derby defeat at City on March 6.

A month down the line and another 'sources close to the player' story that turned out to be true.

Rashford, 24, has been considering his future after a chastening season in which he has scored five goals and started 12 Premier League games out of a possible 26, but sources say he is now looking forward to embarking on a new chapter with Ten Hag.

Sources say Rashford accepts he is not an integral part of interim manager Ralf Rangnick's plans as United prepare for their final four matches of the season. Of Rangnick's 25 matches in charge, Rashford has lined up 11 times.

Sources close to Rashford say he is continuing to train hard and professionally.

So either Rashford and his camp have a relationship with Luckhurst or Luckhurst should be banned by the club. And given that he's an ever present at every press conference and was one of only a handful of journalists who are included in every preseason tour and private briefings - I doubt it's the latter.

Rashford also did a sitdown interview with him in February 2023 - after all these stories were published...and I highly doubt he'd be doing that if Luckhurst was just randomly throwing shit out about him without authorisation.

It's amazing how many of the leaks that happened during Ralf's tenure turned out to be true so this wouldn't surprise me at all.

As one poster said, EtH seems to want the players to actually run and work hard. Unacceptable demands!

McTominay may be useless and lazy but I dont think he'll be leaking to Luckhurst.

The squad has a spineless element to it and it seems we'll never be rid of it. At least not while the Glazers are around setting rock bottom standards and playing favourites with players themselves (Martial etc)

Sancho will be leaking the worst stuff, obviously. Maguire could be. Rashford is a known briefer but he's the one getting the red carpet kid glove treatment despite being utter shite for months. Donny's agent usually has a lot to say.

I think it’s being overblown because we’re currently in a bad run. It’s likely Sancho or Maguire leaking this shit to the media, nothing like the squad revolt we had under Jose. More than ever it’s time to back the manager.

Everyone thought it was Lingard, Pogba, Henderson, who else? The players we suspect leave, and it keeps happening. Must be someone who’s been here for a long time. At least since Mourinho’s first season.

Dont think he's the sort. Sancho, Rashford and Maguire are the ones who love briefing the media to cover for their own shortcomings. They all have a long, long form book for it.
Do they? How do you know?

*enters room wearing a beige trench coat*

*scratches chin*

"Hmmm...So Mr Ten Hag, we are looking for someone who is currently out of the team and possibly has a huge PR company behind them."

"This person strongly believes that you only pick favourites that can't be dropped, keeping them out of the first team."

"They may have recently had a disagreement with you, and have refused to apologise?

"Can you think of anyone that fits this criteria?"

Saden Jancho

Luckhurst is full of shit.

Has had knives out since we got rid of his mole, Henderson.

There’s no Pogba, Henderson or Lingard to blame now so I wonder who will get blamed now.

As is often the case on here, posters fail to recognise that when results don’t go well it’s highly likely morale within the squad could be low and certain people could be unhappy. This happens in every dressing room across Europe but there’s an absurd expectation that dressing room politics should be completely air tight. This is part of sports media it’s inevitable.

I’ll only really start to care when players undermine him publicly. Both Sancho and Ronaldo have done this so it’s not like it can’t happen but so far these are isolated incidents in different seasons.

Honestly if we get rid of another manager cos the players are throwing another one under the bus, we deserve everything that we get after that.

fecking bunch of babies.

Rashford it at the centre of this, as he was with Ronaldo.
He’s also been undermining Sancho since he arrived at the club.

This whole subject just seems to be another medium for people on here to grind their axes against their personal hate figures within the team. The fact is that tabloid gossip shouldn’t really affect the team, because, like you say, it’s just a part of modern sport. I honestly don’t care if a player is leaking dressing room stuff to a journalist. I don’t read tabloid gossip anyway.

I thought introducing the wage cap last season was a step in the right direction. Too many players coming here for the money then losing all drive once they're set for life.

Only a few months later, we make a complete fool of ourselves once again and smash the wage cap for Rashford.

That can't be good for dressing room morale and we've been disjointed on the pitch since.
This club's an absolute embarrassment

Get rid of these players who dont want to play for club or manager. we need to stand behind ETH. He is trying to clean things up for the better. Also for the sake of football, there should be a media embargo or some stricter levels. This is getting quite tedious and is not helping the club, manager or football in general.

As simplistic as it all sounds, the real solution is just getting rid of players who aren't good enough. Once the likes of Maguire, McTominay, Sancho, Martial (good enough but always injured) and Van De Beek are gone and replaced with players who are of the requisite standard (easier said than done), things will improve. If I had my way, I'd also be looking to move on Rashford and Bruno as I think neither of them has the attitude and/or discipline to take us to the levels we need. However, I can fully see why others wouldn't share that opinion and why getting rid of either of them would hardly be a pressing concern.

I've been a voyeur on this forum for quite some time and think it's one of the best at if not the best. I believe I karma and unexplainable universal laws and won't be surprised if most of you think it's a bunch of balony... I know this is a Utd forum But reading over the years and the general sense I get from majority of the posters mostly arrogant posts towards other clubs... It does feel like karma has Utd in a bear hug and is literally crushing the life out of it...

Loom guys, maybe it's the space brownie I had but it does seem like this is beginning to look like it's forming into a 30 year never ending battle ala Liverpool. What are we a 3rd of the way already...

So we’re already at that stage of the managerial cycle. The culture at the club and their favourite journalists is rotten.

Rashford it at the centre of this, as he was with Ronaldo.

True. He also caused the toilet leak at Old Trafford by throwing all his toys out of the pram into the toilet

I’m not joking, I’d be happy to sell every fecking player that has been here for multiple managers. Rashford, Bruno, Shaw, any of them. At least then you’d ensure you got whoever the snakes are out of the club and start fresh.

Because this shit is the same thing that’s happened with every manager, and there are only so many common denominators

It's common knowledge......
Is it? Who do those 3 talk to? Where have you picked up this common knowledge?

Genuine question by the way, as I had no idea that those 3 are commonly known as the leaks.

This is the problem with not having money to buy back up players, you can't get rid of any of the current ones unless they get sold, and you end up having to play them and keep them involved, rather than loaning them out.
I wish we could afford to take the financial hit to release all these players from their contract. I wonder how much it'd take.

Sometimes selling players the manager doesn't want can be just as important to supporting the manager as buying the players he does want. Look at all the stars Arsenal unloaded for Arteta before he got them turned around. Mourinho was dead in the water here when we refused to get rid of Martial and Pogba when he wanted. Ten Hag wanted Maguire and McTominay gone this summer. They should have been gone even if we didn't get every last penny we wanted as a result. Having unwanted players hanging about is poisonous. I hope the club supports him and unloads Maguire, McTominay, Sancho and probably Antony in the January window.

You have to clean up the mess if you want to have an attractive work place that people enjoy coming to. Addition by subtraction can be very real.

Maybe ETH is putting pressure on him? In the dressing room?

Either way, ETH better do something, dropped a few names fast, or he's a goner
He needs to be more fair and stop having favourites. That has never worked well for previous managers.

Beginning of the end for ETH. I'll be surprised if he sees out the season

Us playing badly isn't new. What was new about the last Ole season was that I started to genuinely dislike the players on a personal level. Under Moyes and LvG I thought they just weren't very good. Mourinho was a prick. But then they seemed to just not care under Ole and I resented them for that.

That's why I can't be too bothered now. I honestly still want a lot of these players gone regardless of who replaces them, as long as they're motivated.

If you're tired of criticism, play less shit.

Exactly! Reminds me of their ridiculous essay length apologies on social media. Just try harder and play better. It's not that f**king hard.

It's pathetic that these "leaks" keep coming out of the club, we need the entire squad to be binned off and start from scratch again. I wouldn't even mind few midtable finishes. It's pathetic that the likes of Gary Neville and Roy Keane always seem to talk crap about the club but they are one of the prime reasons for such leaks, Neville especially seems to love the spotlight.

There is no way to get rid off the Glazers, no one has the money to buy them off, so the fanbase can stop trying to get rid off them and work with them(not sure how that would work). The fanbase has to demand better leadership and ask the Glazer to hold the executives running the club accountable. All the execs seem to be happy to pin every thing on the manager without earning their paychecks.

I'm not sure if its just me but I feel signing a group of British players always seem to attract mess, especially average ones who think too much of themselves. And these are the ones who have easy access to British media to leak stuff too.

The team need to contrate on doing their own jobs and let the manager do his, whether they agree with Erik's decisions or not is irrelevant.

Is this talksport stuff attached to any journalist, or is it just one of their morons that go on air and say stuff for attention?

Not sure we can trust these news but if it's true, then it's an issue, it's one thing to express concerns to the manager behind closed doors and all, but for it to come out is a huge issues, it totally undermines the Manager's position and shows lack of unity.

if the club get rid of ETH it would be insanity. The manager need to be backed (which i think they will do this time) and any players who are causing problems need to be run out of the club asap, no matter what their 'book value' to the parasitic glazers is. Its a case now i think of letting ETH get on with the job, even if it continues to be a crappy season. Arteta took a long time to get going at Arsenal, even after winning the cup in his first season and it was really only after the 'bad eggs' were totally expunged (which took a long time) did they start to look like a top team again.

Ed Woodward messed our club Culture up.
Moyes - leaks, got fired
LVG - leaks, he sold half the squad and worked with the kids. Media got pissed off and engineered the campaign second season.
Jose - leaks, got fired
Ole - leaks, got fired
ETH - leaks and people are ignoring the enablers.

Journalists that think their influence at United is greater than it is.
They are banking on the fans to fall for it again and lend them support.

We are all sick and tired of this new United. Fans just want our football back and who ever gets pissed off on this journey we care less. This is not a day care or psychiatric home.
