Television The Last of Us - TV Series HBO | NO GAME REFERENCES OR SPOILERS | Receives 24 Emmy nominations

Was more than that thou. Gave a glimpse into her fears & sexuality, the reason why she hates neither the Feds nor the Fire Flys, her hatred/morbid fascination with the infected. In a way why she bonds with a male father figure like Joel or at least why she trusted him quite easily for a girl who is skeptical of most people.
It did that too, but by far mlst screen time was actually her doing mundane stuff that's not mundane to her.

In a longer season I wouldve been fine with this, but we only get 9 episodes to begin with.

Also might have minded less if I had no knowledge of how it was going to play out I suppose.

The recap was weirdly dramatic, considering the series so far has kind of been anything but, this episode case in point.

Oh shit! I thought that was only for upcoming episodes! Many apologies - will delete

Edit: After further review, apology retracted. I went back and checked the spoiler policy - copy/pasted below:

You can only discuss what has actually happened in episodes that have been already broadcast.

  • No game talk whatsoever. None at all. Especially no comparisons between the game and TV show. It might seem harmless to you but even something like discussing a character in part 2 of the game means they lived and that spoils the tv series for non-gamers.
  • No reviews or trailers should be posted as they often contain spoilers except in labelled spoiler tags (not at all is better).
  • And no discussion of the TV show in the game thread either as the TV show may push people to the game - spoilers again.

Importantly:
  • Any and all comment related to future developments must be placed in spoiler tags.
  • Trailers for future series can only be posted if in spoiler tags AND that the spoiler tag is labelled so people know what to expect inside the spoiler tags.
  • Only speculation that is both your own guess work AND only based on episodes that have already aired can be posted with or without spolier tags.
Just saying most will spoiler stuff the same day an episode comes out. I would its just considerate.

It came out last night. Anyway, the guidelines are pretty straightforward. If I hadn’t watched the most recent episode, I wouldn’t check this thread.

That was a pretty poor episode in an otherwise excellent first season. Literally only cared about the first and last minute.

I kinda wish this show would embrace the horror elements more. Feel line there was a good opportunity in this episode for it.

Since the third episode its only downhill.. for a zombie show there are not many..if any haha.. the last episode was the final nail...i think that was it for me..on to the next..

The only problem with dedicating a whole episode to a bit of someones backstory is if there's only like 9 episodes or something, then you gotta wait a year+ for more. At which point you don't care cos its so annoying.

Otherwise, great episode.

Have to agree with @jem here. Policy is pretty clear and why would you go into the thread if you havent seen the last episode anyway? Weird thing to try and make a point out of.
Not if you read the whole thread. Most people are careful that some might have not seen an episode released in the last 24 hours. Weird argument and very selfish.

Utter nonsense. Being selfish would be to literally not follow the spoiler policy and the specific thread rules.

Going into a thread after an episode has aired and you see a spoiler is incredibly stupid on your part and no one else's. Ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

Who comes into the thread the day after an episode aired without watching said episode?

Anyway, the wife and I enjoy the show. We aren't big into the zombie end of it and are glad they've gone with the human element.

Nonsense. Read the whole thread from the start including what the mods have suggested instead of just diving in with your pish.

It's about being considerate the episode hasn't been out 24 hours yet. But carry on if you want to be like that.

The cat apparently. Then blames other people for seeing spoilers.

This is very memeable.

There’s been more anger and violence in the past 10 posts than in an entire episode of a zombie show.

Annnnnnnyhoo. Another good episode. Not a lot happened but carried by some great performances. I liked the whole “five wonders” angle. Plus them gradually getting sloshed on incredibly expensive liquor that some poor bastard decided to end his life drinking. That was pretty dark.

I loved it. The only flaw was you knew more or less where the episode was going but despite that it was great, built backstory and how that resulted in
Ellie not abandoning Joel at the end

Personally found the timing of that episode a bit off. It was a decent episode in of itself but the flashback felt a bit forced and imbalanced, they just didn't nail the landing in the same way as Episode 3 did.

The end bothered my inner medic…

…specifically the idea that crudely stitching shut a probably already infected penetrating wound with an unsterilised needle and thread would do anything other than make a bad situation worse.

It was not an all action Jackson type episode, but I do appreciate and enjoy very much the contextual episode and how much they are humanizing people/main characters because that can always get lost in the hellscape of the world in general and especially in the setting they are in.

Young teenagers, figuring out their feelings and connections without parental guidance or 'sane/normal' guidance. And traumatizing times having an impact on how people live their lives and the actions they make.

Joel didn't even have to say a word and the impact the characters had at the beginning and end was tremendous.

That's how I felt as well, like they're overdoing it now.

It is like the few people who couldn't watch the League Cup Final live or on a massive delay and they had their phone in front of them thinking there would be zero notifications....come onnnnnn, be better!!!!

So if we're basing it on the show, seems like Ellie would go to the Fireflys and that woman (Marlene) who recruited her roommate/best friend (Riley), is the person in charge of Ellie since that night? Maybe they won't go into it further, but seems like the loop is closed on when/how Ellie is chained to the space heater and why she has to repeat those directions to prove that she isn't infected. Because the clothing gives it away at least to me and the backback, plus having the pun book, and then we understand why the knife is so coveted by Ellie. So they continue to move forward and they both go to the Firefly's that night before the infection really spreads for Riley and then it doesn't for Ellie.

Hey let's not argue - the policy is what it is, but for my part, I'll hold off on discussing specific plot elements/details so soon after future episodes.

Weird, we've got to the point where we can't discuss the show in a thread meant to discuss the show.

Well done Redcafe. You've nailed it.

Interesting I felt it was placed incredibly well. In the game this whole episode is essentially DLC. I was curious if and how they might have fit it in and thought it was placed perfectly. That's also knowing what is coming in the next few eps

maybe it’s time to stop thinking of it as a zombie show?

Yeah we get that but ypi dont need 53 mins for that

Based on the second option they talked about, Ellie and Riley just stayed in there till Riley turned and Ellie had to kill her. Then in the morning or the other day, the FireFlies with Marlene found them there with only Ellie alive. If you recall, the mall was a Firefly outpost and Riley was supposed to leave to Atlanta in the morning, so its very likely Fireflies and Marlene came looking for her there.

In an earlier episode Ellie tells Joel that it's not the first time she's had to kill a person. That person was Riley. I assume from then, when Riley doesn't return to the Firefly's they send out a crack squad of elites to sweep the mall and find Ellie. I've embellished the last bit... They kinda go through it in the episode podcast

edit: what @Amarsdd said

Thought that was one of the weaker episodes. Not sure
an extended flashback
was what the story needed at this point, maybe should have dripped it out more over the season. Also the dialogue felt a little forced at times, despite some great work by Ramsey. But if this is one of the season's weaker episodes then that's a pretty high low point.
