Television The Last of Us - TV Series HBO | NO GAME REFERENCES OR SPOILERS | Receives 24 Emmy nominations

Just watched ep5. What an ending, wasn’t expecting that at all. Glad I’ve never played the game so I’ve no idea what’s coming up. The show takes you on an emotional roller coaster, just when they meet good people you know shit is going to happen. Loving it so far.

Yeah ep5 was great. Emotional stuff at the end too but the sniper scene was fantastic.

I preferred ep5 over ep3

Actually what was Ep 3 like for you? Felt like that episode was for the gamers who knew about Bill and Frank so they changed it drastically compared to the game. We're you wondering why they were spending so much time on this random character? Kinda interested to see the other point of view, who haven't played the game.

I knew what was coming in episode 5 but still felt devastated. Great episode.

My friend who is watching it without playing game, can’t believe that such complex characters exist in videogames also.

I thought it was a great episode to be honest. Looking at it from someone who doesn’t know anything about the game I thought it was a really strong message that happiness can be found in the darkest of times. The two previous episodes had mentioned the characters so I knew we were going to meet them but I didn’t expect them to disappear in one episode. But I like films/shows/ series where unexpected things happen. Same with the last episode as well. The ending of 3 was really powerful for me. I’ve read some comments and reviews that said it was boring but I guess everyone sees things differently. I’m not a gamer by any means but watching this has peaked my interest. I’ll have to speak to my son about it and give it a go.

Great show. Really good at getting you invested in characters in short time, like an episode. Last episode probably best so far

We had quite a fun chat in the office yesterday about this as well. A lot of my colleagues have played various games throughout their lives, bit someone yesterday was amazed that this was based on a video game. She thought video games were just FIFA and Counter Strike.

It's interesting when you've been playing games since your childhood to talk with people who are genuinely clueless. It's also fun to see people play games for the first time, because there's so much stuff games do and communicate that's natural to someone who's played for years but is completely foreign to someone new to games.

That’s a good way of looking at it. I enjoyed the episode too. Wasn’t expecting it to turn out like that. I’m jealous you don’t know what’s coming.

I've played the game and still don't know what's coming

Any emotional scene that I know is coming still kind of gets to me. I mean I don't cry cause I'M A MAN but someone does start cutting onions during the show for some reason. The acting is fantastic. You could see it in
the eyes of Ellie when the older brother shot himself, the innocent look of a kid seeing things she shouldn't. And of course the daughter in the pilot.

EP5 was some top notch TV. Acted sublimely yet again by all involved.

I rarely ever get so many emotions in one go but this one certainly was a rollercoaster. Fantastic.

Decent episode, not the best of the season but solid enough.

Another well acted episode. Got the key moments absolutely spot on. Slightly rushed though. Would have preferred this in 2 episode. Maybe that decision to allot entire episode for Bill and Frank doesn’t look like a good decision now

HBO has exceeded my expectations
The Last of Us is one of my favourite games of all time. Wasn’t sure any live action adaptation could to it justice but holy feck incredible show.

Great episode, again.
So much emotions and a very good episode. Although I agree with the above poster that Joel needed more time to show his self doubts grow. But then maybe that’s what made it such a great episode all those emotions packed into 60 minutes

Going into this series I was very skeptical of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey being cast in their roles. I don't know why I haven't yet learned to trust in HBO's judgment because nearly everything they do turns to gold, and it's no different with TLOU. Everything about this series has been done very well thus far.

Really loved this episode. The scene where Joel lays bare his doubts and fears to Tommy was phenomenally acted by PP. Also, special shout out to the old couple at the beginning, it was like watching my grandparents.

As a side note, if you want to avoid any spoilers of Season 2 I would avoid the official Podcast this week. M&D were a little too giddy with their own cleverness this week and let something(s?) slip.

Enjoying it more and more. Ep 3 with Frank and Bill was a high point but this episode was a close second. So far I’ve enjoyed the episodes without the clickers more than the ones with them. The emotional depths they find are very rewarding. And having the latent threat of the clickers in the background is always felt. They’ve made the right choice in making this a human story rather than breakneck action throughout. I’m glad I’ve never played the game nor knowing nothing about it.

I have to say that based on the direction they have gone; as you say, focusing on the human aspect, I wish I could eliminate the game from memory for 3 more weeks.

Same.

Fantastic episode this week. So well written and acted.

First episode I wasn’t sold on Bella as Ellie but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Phenomenal actress.

My only slight worry is they’ve got a lot to fit in in 3 episodes, but then I suppose the finale is likely to be 80 or so minutes.

Hope they’ve started filming season 2.

Class again. Think it would’ve really suited a binge watch style though.

I actually think the complete opposite. I like the fact you have a break between episodes to digest what’s happened properly. I don’t think episode 3 would have been as hard hitting for me for example if I had just jumped straight into episode 4.

That said when the seasons finished I’ll be doing a binge watch.

Another outstanding episode. The quality of this season is amazing, must be up there with the best maiden seasons in TV history.

Think the complete opposite.

I think shows that have theories and things like that suit this kind of watch but when you want to be engrossed in some characters and their world a binge can help imo. Not that it isn’t doing that but I think it would get even more people on board.

Catching up after being on holiday.

I think episode 5 is probably the greatest straight video game adaptation to film/TV that I've ever seen. Best episode so far.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll skip this week's podcast then.

I enjoyed that last one just watched it. Great acting and shows you don't need action every second of the show to make it good. Interested to see where it goes for the rest of the season as a non game player (so far).
