Sneaky bum time - Vaccination status: dozed off
Just finished it.Did you finish it in the end @amolbhatia50k ?
I enjoyed it a lot for the most part but felt it missed an opportunity to be something special due to some poor choices.
- I absolutely loved playing the game itself. The combat wasn't complicated but had a lovely weight to it. They basically emulated what Days Gone did so well and it fit perfectly. The exploration parts were also excellent and something I didn't expect. I wish we had a few more sections like Seattle Day 1. Everything didn't have to he as linear as it did from here on.
- The first section (Ellie on the hunt) was terrific for me. I think they could have done a better job of building her 'wolves killer' arc. But games having killing and all in all this section of game was an absolute joy (despite the misery).
- The swap at the end of Ellie's section to shift perspective rubbed some people the wrong way but I thought it was an interesting shift in perceptive and Abby's dynamic with her SeaWorld boyfriend and all was well done. But this is also when the game started losing steam. The whole brother and sister storyline was far, far too long with Lev going running back to his Mom being the first 'drag' from a narrative perspective and one that I don't think the game truly recovered from. It was the first time I felt the game beginning to feel like a chore.
- But even if we look past past that, the moment when the two storylines meet seemed tie stories of the two characters together pretty well with a peak at Ellie back home.
- However the next chapter of the game was honestly really poor. Abby seeing some hope only to get her face smashed felt excessive. And then of course Ellie being convinced by best friend Tommy to give up the good life and people she presumably loves for another chance at blood, just came across really poorly. And it wasn't helped with the gameplay in this section also being weak ending with what came across a comical fight which served feck all purpose. I mean, she frees Abby and first walks off to her own boat for some reason?! Didn't she she there to kill. Why did she need another memory of Joel to wake herself up?
- And then the ending was also so.. nothing. There's Ellie having made one of the most bizarre decisions you've seen in gaming now being left witj a guitar and 7 fingers. All this after she knew what Joel did and why people came for him. Doesn't really make any sense and in the last 5 hours I never actually wanted her to get revenge. It felt like a meaningless desire of a complete lunatic.
