Gaming The Last of Us Part II (PS4)

I played a few more hours last night but haven't progressed the story too much. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty so I'm paranoid about missing out on supplies. So I'm searching every nook and cranny which is taking a bit of time.

I have got to the point where Ellie and Dina get thrown off their horse by an explosion. We cut to Ellie being tied up in that room and Dina falling through the glass. I genuinely thought they were going to kill Dina there. I was mashing the pad like mad to get that piece of glass so I could cut that rope from my hands!

I'm similar. Almost feels like I'm balancing pure enjoyment of the game with my brain also going "but what if you miss an area or a thing". It's debilitating  Like how can I not check what's behind every single door and on every shelf.

I was playing last night and I saw an interesting room, but thought I'd check another first. That door triggered a cutscene and I couldn't go back to the room I wanted. Was gutted.

I had the same thing, probably the same room. I tried everything to go back but the game clearly wasn't having it. Oh well there's always next playthrough.

My TV delivery has been delayed a week but this arrived this morning.

Is it worth waiting a week to experience this all in 4k?

I'm enjoying it on hard but I'm still so obsessed with stealthing everything that I have maxed out ammo/resources all the time. I assume there's more unavoidable gun fights as you go along.

Also 7 or 8 hours in:
Fecking trip wires, kept blowing my Ellie up and it made me jump every damn time

Yes if you have better TV on the way, I would suggest to wait. This game is beautiful

That's the worst. In the past, I've reloaded a previous save to go back to that point.

The other thing is, while the game does look incredible, It's obviously a post-apocalyptic world so some things do look very samey. So I've been so thorough in my scavaging that I've been going through the same building multiple times!

It's a problem. I want to get to the next cut scene and progress the story but I just can't!

Yes and no, I suppose. The important thing to remember here (and something to keep in mind in general, not just in this case) is that Twitter isn't real life - thankfully! Despite the controversies surrounding the game, despite the fact that it's getting reviewed bombed on Metacritic, despite people supposedly boycotting it for whatever fecking reason, It's still one of the best-reviewed and critically acclaimed games of all time. And also, this:

Again, It's important to remember that the vast majority of people probably didn't even know/care about any of the leaks. Didn't take any notice of the supposed "controversies" surrounding the game. It's all just noise. It's manufactured, online rage. Nothing more. The majority of people will play it, without the distraction of all this shite, and make up their own minds. That's not to belittle the abuse the people at the studio are getting, but this is one of the biggest selling exclusive (at least in the UK) and most critically acclaimed games of all time. And I'm sure this fact hasn't escaped the people who have worked on it.

I agree twitter isn't real life but still it won't feel good that every second message is a death threat.

I agree with sales part. I knew the leaks and still pre ordered it. Vast majority probably didn't even have an idea about the leaks. Sales figures is impressive considering it doesn't include digital sales.

Find it difficult to give a shit about "crunch" in game development. Sounds heartless but if I'm gonna use a phone that some Chinese man/woman spent 16 hours a day putting together in shit conditions and have no moral dilemma on it then any concern about some triple AAA game dev who is probably very well paid and presumably has very good work conditions other than long hours is a bit disingenuous

I completed it last night and spent a lot of time awake going over it in my head.

- Personally I liked how they handled Joel's death. A lot of criticism online about it not fitting his character, he easily fell into a trap etc etc. It's quite obvious he's shown to have softened up since being with Ellie and in Jackson. He also argued going back to Jackson rather than following Abby. You can see he was quite wary of the situation.

- I grew to enjoy the Abby parts, I think it was purposefully a challenge to 'like' Abby after what she did. However you understand why she did what she did, you begin to see the characters you killed as Ellie as more than just your standard video game villains. You begin to realise what Abby's quest consumed her, just the subtle differences between the present-day Abby and the flashback Abby, you can see it's cost her a relationship with Owen and it eventually she loses everyone she ever cares about. I think it actually makes the game better, it could of been a standard revenge plot, with Ellie knocking the group of one by one before reaching Abby. By showing these characters as not necessarily bad people, but people who were just after the same thing Ellie is now and the effects it's had on them.

- It also fed nicely into the time skip a part, Tommy desire for revenge consumes him, he's crippled, blind, disfigured and him he's lost his wife. Dina and Ellie have had to move away from Jackson to get away from their guilt about Jessie. Then eventually Ellie not being able to move on costs her Dina, her home, she can't even play the guitar that Joel gave her.

- I also didn't mind Ellie, letting Abby go, the whole flash of Joel and the after conversations was a reminder, she was willing to learn to forgive Joel for what he did, she remembered that conversation, she realise she needed to learn how to forgive and move on from Abby, unfortunately, it was too late.

For sure it sucks. Its stupidity but its sadly modern culture and becoming more and more prevalent.

That said I'm sure Druckmann and all at Naughty Dog have a thick skin (they have to, to work the Naughty Dog crunch), he knows whats going on. He knows how his game is being used and how certain shit heads are using it to divide people. He likely knew all this since the first picture of Abby released. Its not his fault but he was prepared for it. Naughty Dog, like pretty much every company know if you do anything controversial than a small minority will look to destroy you and use your media to push their agenda's. It fecking sucks but I imagine his stance should be "No publicity is bad publicity".

Internet outrage is ridiculous but its something creators in all mediums will have to deal with. As said above the problem is these fecking idiots pretty much negate any real criticism of the media as they give fans the chance to dismiss every criticism as being one of those idiots. They do it to create division for feck knows what reason. We've seen it with Star Wars and this is sadly never gonna go away unless twitter/youtube etc... grow a pair and hand out IP bans to everyone spouting shite (which is the loudest part of their user base)..

It seems like a high percent doing this but its not.. its a very vocal minority, the rational people don't feel the need to scream on twitch. I've seen TloU players say "TloU community if the most toxic", fifa community say it about Fifa, Fortnite community say it about Fortnite (I saw one guy threaten to shoot everyone at Epic for removing a particular gun). It doesn't help a lot of gamers are young teens and easily led by shitty youtube commentators using games to push their shitty political views on them.

Problem for was that switching to Abby killed the pacing of the game. We had to play 10 hours to get back the scene where we ended off with Ellie. Another thing is that Abby was just such a non-character for me. If they had to introduce a new main character you play half the game, I just feel they could have come with up with a better character and plotline. I guess I'm just an Abby hater, I had zero interest in her.

Ellie was more mature in the first game. In this second one she seems to have went backwards in mental age.

Have the types of zombie things changed btw? They all seem a bit different to the first game but no mention of anything.

Why doesn't she have any breast on her chest . Shes got some pecs. Her arms are way too damn big. Yet the younger version looks like a natural woman. She's Jacked as hell.

But....she looks fine.

Seriously though, why not stick to this design below this, she still looks strong and jacked, why make her arms to such ridiculous proportions. Boggles mind.

How was your feelings on seeing her getting plunged with sausage in her ass?

 there's a petition online to make naughty dog redo the story. They're asking for
Joel and Ellie's story to be happier

Someone didn't pay attention to the mood of the first game, it seems

I've decided to play through Yakuza 0 first. Got em both and while tlou is beautiful and amazing, Yakuza is a bit more my jam at the moment and while playing this I was mostly thinking about beating up some punks as Kiryu.

Trauma can do that to a person? I'd avoid giving away more of the game's narrative though.

The yakuza series is one of the best games I've even played. Only started playing them when 0 came out.

Amazing game, played all three Yakuza 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2 back to back. But 0 takes the cake, sorry for offtopic.

This just happened

I don’t want to say the chapter name in the spoiler as that kind of gives something away so maybe only watch if you’re quite far in.

Had no ammo and no health at this point and was just waiting to die

Yeah, just 1 more off topic response. Kiwami are remakes of 1 and 2 right? Are they just improved visually? Or overhauled completely? Also, any idea if Yakuza 6 ks any good?

Finished it. Good but not as seismic as the first. Don't agree with the direction they took the story and it felt like it went on too long. It's a very mean-spirited game, too. I feel like I need to inject some rainbows and sunshine into my life now.

Yeah, Kiwamis are total remakes of 1 and 2, I haven't played originals but I think they are complete overhauls. Haven't played Y6.

To be fair..

I didn't have a problem with her design, there are a few off-handed conversations about her in the gym, her strength, and her build. I took it as she dedicated herself to get stronger for a potential fight with Joel.

Girls can get built like that, i have no problem with it.

Google Dani Speegle, Brooke Ence, Sam Briggs.

The thing is, even their arms are smaller and they look like that only through strict food regimes, supplements and training. And we are talking post-apocalypse here with Abby.

About 8 hours in, blown away so far and absolutely zero complaints about the story to this point

Played first 3 hours so far. Just hope it's going to start soon that's all. So far the beginning has been as boring as the that of Rdr2.

Picked it up and played about 4 hours.

I just can't get into it, I found the most of it dull so far. Gameplay feels good but not amazing. 6/10 for me so far but it is starting to open up now I'm in uncharted waters (bar knowing the major plot points)

I found the first 2 hours pretty dull but I had watched it via LP so maybe thats why. I've said my piece on Joel.
I'm currently after collecting the gas and canister at the start of Seattle and the game seems to be opening up.

Also I'm really enjoying Dina as a character.

So I think I'm probably about halfway through and I'm really not seeing the justification for the online rage at this game. It's been excellent so far. The pacing isn't as on point as in the first game but I guess that's a by-product of having these much larger areas to explore...I then re-explore the area once I get rid of any enemies to make sure I haven't missed or overlooked anything. So I'm spending a good bit more time wandering around.

I'm just past the part where Ellie

Has tortured Nora to get info on Abby.

The encounter with the scars was brilliantly filled with tension. The whistling communication is such a great idea to make them seem more chilling.

As was the part with the stalkers they've seemed to make improvements to all the enemies so far to make them.more terrifying without really changing much it's very well done.

Perhaps it's because you know what's going to happen and because you've read/watched spoilers you've completely removed any tension or intrigue the devs have intended you to feel.

I'll never understand people who say "I'm ok with spoilers it doesn't change my enjoyment of something" (not directed at you @padr81 ). Well, whilst that might be true it still fundamentally changed your experience with something and ruined, or at best dampened any emotioms the Director/Writer has wanted at specific points. Then there's the problem with seeing things & specific events occur without context which of course is going to have a huge negative impact.

Blasphemy!

Whilst I can understand this, I also don't really  I spent the first part of the game looking at everything and all the details that had been added to the game. I thought it was great. Sometimes when playing I just stop and admire the view.

I must be about halfway through, maybe a little over halfway, and I've loved every second of it so far. I think the pacing is pretty much spot on, a good mix of incredibly tense segments and quieter moments. Characters and story beats have been brilliant so far. I've got to be honest, I was probably always going to love this game but I genuinely think this is something special.
