Gaming The Last of Us Part II (PS4)

That's fair enough, and you've formed that opinion once you played it.

I know you were one of the posters who said they planned to boycott the game so fair play for acknowledging that you are enjoying it for the most part.

Yeah I knew I was talking shit. I was always going to pick it up. I love the genre too much not play something like this.
Also:
I pretty much expected for certain characters to die at some point anyway, I just didn’t agree on when and how they died and hence me not liking the creative direction but hey you can’t have everything, besides — it’s a fecking game — get over it.

I'm only messing, ill be rushing home and cant wait to play it, i used to always tell me brother to quit moaning when he'd come in and tell me the framerate is terrible whenever i was playing on my ps4 i then got a 144hz monitor too and he wasn't lying but you adjust to either or after 30 mins!

Yeah am a bit of graphics whore so I used to push my 1070ti to 30 frames so I could squeeze every last drop of graphical fidelity out of it. Going to build a new pc when the news Amd processors and graphics cards are out — should finally get 4K @ 60fps this time.

The thing is I love the survival horror genre, I love the atmosphere of this game, music, graphics, all amazing, but I just can't:

play half of the game with new bland character that I hate after she brutally killed character I loved and was invested in in the first game, and it happens in first two hours also, I get too immersed in the story when I play something so I can't. Also Joel acting out of character spouting his name, trusting strangers, that writing...

There is a story similar to the first TLOU going on in which Abby (from WLF) is protecting and travelling with a kid who is from the opposing faction to WLF. The kid is trans and had to run away from his/her own faction for fear of getting killed.
p.s. I got this from briefly going through a walkthrough. (I couldn't help myself as I'll only be able to play it sometimes next week)

Ah right we’ll see I didn’t know that. I thought all the hate was aimed at Abby? So she’s protecting a trans person. Really don’t see anything wrong with that. In fact it’s actually quite realistic. I’d imagine people would go back to being animals regarding inclusion in a post apocalyptic world.

I understand your point of view and everything you said in that spoiler. I genuinely get it. I feel like too actually, but if you love this genre then just get the game and play because of the setting and the lore. They made a misstep but we move on.

Abby is a woman isn’t she? I don’t see why some are saying that she’s trans. There has been no conformation and her voice actor was given a female gender at birth. I’m assuming she’s a female. Not that it matters. I played as her yesterday and my gripe with her is I don’t particularly feel a connection to her — that’s all. Anyone that has an issue with her gender or how she identifies is a fecking idiot.
That’s what I’ve read. The lack of connection players have with her due to her lack of charisma. That was one of my fears, without the connection the story falls apart.

Thats a valid concern. Again, it’s a misstep by ND but in a time where I feel almost no connection to anything anymore — I’m not that bothered. Last time I felt really something was Joel and Nate funnily enough. Adding her as an NPC would have been better but that just me.

Saying you don't like the story because you watched it on a small screen in a non gaming environment is like saying you don't like Mozart when your neighbour blasts from his car stereo as he drives past.

Or, you know, it's a cop out to validate you having already made your mind up whether you were going to like it or not.

I watched The King's Speech on a plane the first time. Thought it was boring. Watched it again in my house, lights down, volume up - turned out to be a great film. A story experience is more than just a bunch of lines being spoken and if your idea of an impartial look at something is giving it a glance on a phone or tablet and skipping to the cutscenes then, no, you're not getting the actual story experience.

*Waits patiently to be REPORTED for nothing*
What about those who have their ps4 set up to a monitor instead of a tv? Is that reason enough to say they haven't got a clue?
It doesn't look like it is that much of gaming to be done with the game. :p
And it looks good, I'm no trying to argue that the people giving it 0s are being fair at all, just buggered by the small screen comment.

Watched the game through in its entirety now. Starts off okay with the prologue but the second act is just a shambles of lazy writing and it all looks so forced.

And obviously no one who played the first game (and isn't a sociopath) is going to be able to have any sort of connection with Abby as a protagonist. And if you dont relate to the character you're playing as in a game like this a lot of the impact is irretrievably lost, even if the plot had been better

I agree. It was a bold move but for me it has failed.

I'm talking about phones mate. But even then you're still playing in a gaming environment. Like I said in the rest of my post it's more than just about one factor.

But I see your pedantry and raise you one rant about eagles. Who the feck do these flash cnuts think they are?!

"Oooh look at me with the stupidly long wingspan!"

Alright Jay, calm your tits.

Around 5 hours in liking it so far.

Was a bit dissapointed with how quickly Joel was killed off, would have been nice IMO to have him with us at least 1/3 of the game. Not quite sure what I think of Dina as a companion yet. Not really bothered by the lesbo stuff but dont think the story in this one can top number 1, but there is still lots left.

Who the hell plays AAA titles on phones?
Never mind my pedantry, you were being too kind.

I was talking about people watching YouTube videos to - oh, forget it. If I can't spell your name on this phone properly then you don't exist as far as I'm concerned.

I barely see any improvements on the first remastered tbh. Its still looks good though.

Really? The level of detail, particle effects and lighting are far better for me, I'm playing on a PS4 Pro and 4k telly though.

Clickers seem more terrifying this time around too, they've somehow made the noise they make even more gut wrenching.

I'm just playing on the standard old PS4. How no idea how many k my telly is probably not much since it was cheap.

Even in 1080p the difference in level of detail, amount of foliage, lighting, etc is significant. It's your mind playing tricks on you. You remember The Last of Us looking fantastic and the overall style is of course similar to the second game, so you sort of think it looked as good. In reality, putting the two side-by-side, you'd notice the difference. It's the same effect that had IGN saying the recent Saints Row 3 remaster barely improved the visuals while Digital Foundry's in depth, side-by-side comparison showed it was nearly a remake-quality overhaul of every visual element in the game.

The transition from cut-scene to being back in control of the character

Pretty much.

Anyway, about the game. It's fecking intense. The dodge button has already come in useful and clickers are still horrible. I've got to do a better job of preserving supplies though. Just gunned my way through a section and wasted twice as many bullets as was necessary.

I'll be down to just a fecking brick in no time at this rate.

Is it me or is Ellies flashlight really weak? Can't see a damn thing in dark places.

1.5 at GameFaqs  I have no attachment to this series as I don't plan on playing this game (at least for a long while) because I just couldn't get into the first one but I'm just finding it interesting, and slightly sad, that games are becoming such a political battleground. Undoubtedly there are people who have legit issues with story/gameplay but there's clearly other issues at play (something something woke, something something SJW)

Yeah same, trying to push political agendas down gamers throats is never going to go down too well. I'll probably wait until its remastered on PS5 to play this anyway, not in too much of a rush with my backlog on PC also.

Yeah, I agree. None of those teenage boys or adults in arrested development are ready to play games that reflect society. They just want Lara Croft's massive knockers and tight shorts. Anything else smacks of a SJW agenda.

Lara hasn't had massive knockers for 20 years!

I suppose the question is when reflecting reality becomes an agenda.

The percentage of people who openly identify as LGBT in the US is about 4-5%, I think? With more obviously falling into that category but not openly identifying as such. So if media was simply to reflect real life then somewhere between 5-10% of characters based in the US should be LGBT.

Yet if they were actually to get that accurate level of representation across all games there would be a collective meltdown from people whining about SJW agendas.

Digital Foundry video here. They say very mild spoilers. I watched a little bit but turned it off 'cause I haven't played the game yet. Use your own discretion. Surprise, surprise, it seems like a very special game.

If you click on the negative reviews criticizing wokeness and look up who is reviewing them then a lot of them have no other reviews whatsoever; it's like they just joined metacritic to slam this one game and it's supposed agenda. The sad bastards

I'm about 3 or 4 hours into it. Really good so far. Already seen the spoilers because my friend wouldn't shut up about them. Feel like I'm robbed of some surprises. Least it's not everything. But never the less, I'm nervous after every moment.

Not a single one of those actually played it. I started playing like at 12 am Indian time yesterday and it's 9 pm here and I just reached Day 2. I am exploring a little bit but still this game is quite linear.

Me. It’s quite easy to be honest.

Yeah, I heard the game isn't particularly difficult. I think Hard just makes scavenging more relevant as items are a bit more scarce. The first game wasn't hard either, to be honest.
