Gaming The Last of Us Part II (PS4)

I've had an argument with the missus because I was going to play this tonight and got told "just play it during the day when I'm at work". Which I can't because if I want to hear anything I'll need to put my headphones on and this little bundle of toddler joy will inevitably try and kill himself so I'll need to be able to hear that. Some folk just don't understand.

You and Geko need to stop arguing over this. It ain’t worth risking your marriage for.

I can't remember too much but whilst I enjoyed the first one a lot though it was a bit weird as there was no element of the game where you had your own free will really. Didn't you just do the bit (kill off the things, move to the other side etc.) and then watch the story till it asks you to do something again to jump to the next scene.

I would like the game to have a variety of outcomes depending on how you play the game (stealth, balls to the wall shooting, getting wounded etc.).

Could I theoretically just not watch it like a movie on someone's play through on YouTube or something?
That's pretty standard Naughty Dog. They've always said they have a particular story they want to tell and don't want to deviate from it.

Apparently this is their most "open" game yet, though, but I wouldn't expect many story decisions to be made by the player. it's a shame cause if evil_geko could make Ellie straight he'd probably love the game.

You mean several of you did this by repeating this word over and over again and I just responded? I didn't pollute anything, all of you did with your fantasy pursuit against my supposed "lesbian hating". Can't even write this without laughing. Bloody hell you are piece of work.

First off, YOU brought that word into it, you are just being a coward about telling us why.

Second, when have I ever accused you of Lesbian hating? You said this numerous times before and I have to KEEP pointing out I've never accused you of anything. You are confusing me with someone else, no surprise really as you seem to struggle to keep up with all the different people asking you.

I just question you on your comment, which is what people should be doing when they see things like that written on here or anywhere. The only thing close to accusing you of anything is that I think if you have an innocent answer you would have said it when you were first asked, now you have no choice but to keep running around bleating on about "bad writing!" and ignoring people questioning you.

The idea that the experience of actually playing a game doesn't provide context is strange to me. That's the medium. It's like deciding a book is bad based on the synopsis, or that a song isn't good based on the sheet music. You're skipping the most essential part of enjoying it.

Yeah, I know. This is what I was trying to say to some of the posters on here who were adamant that they knew it all because they read a few leaks out of context. It's like the act of actually playing the game for 30+ hours count for nothing. Or that there's nothing else to enjoy about the game. Most of the reviews I've read are from people who seen all the leaks before playing the game and they all say the same thing: they thought they knew it all and how they would feel about it, but it didn't pan out that way at all. They were still continuously surprised by HOW they told the story and the directions they went in.

You are the on confusing everything, I mentioned "all of you", so that wasn't only for you, but you choose to ignore that too like you do everything. And no, I didn't ignore everything, you just choose to ignore the answers and kept going for it. You can even see in simple posts you choosing to ignore some parts of the posts just so you can keep going with your holy crusade.

So it's smart to lump me in with all of them, tell me, do you think doing that makes your case stronger or weaker?

Like I said, your closed mind means you have to pigeon hole everything, you can't just answer me on a seperate level it has to be "me vs them".

As for the rest of the gibberish, as has been pointed out on many an occasion, you have not once put forward an answer to what "agendas" have being pushed. As I explained to you in another post, one you ignored (shocker!) again, rattling off about bad writing and all that doesn't come close to explaining what you mean by agendas. But then I'm guessing you know that.

Saying you don't like the story because you watched it on a small screen in a non gaming environment is like saying you don't like Mozart when your neighbour blasts from his car stereo as he drives past.

Or, you know, it's a cop out to validate you having already made your mind up whether you were going to like it or not.

I watched The King's Speech on a plane the first time. Thought it was boring. Watched it again in my house, lights down, volume up - turned out to be a great film. A story experience is more than just a bunch of lines being spoken and if your idea of an impartial look at something is giving it a glance on a phone or tablet and skipping to the cutscenes then, no, you're not getting the actual story experience.

*Waits patiently to be REPORTED for nothing*

There shouldn’t be any issues with the frame rate on base PS4 according to digital foundry and little to no issues on the pro either. So it’s interesting that some people in this thread are experiencing issues.

Wait, did you just call me a Mozart?

Blocked.

This whole confusing mess could be cleared up immediately if you explained exactly what you meant by the game pushing agendas.

You have never explained that and as @Redlambs has pointed out to dozens of times you parroting the same line about "bad writing" is in no way an explanation for your original comment.

As predicted, the user reviews on Metacritic are appalling, currently at 3.3.

1.5 at GameFaqs  I have no attachment to this series as I don't plan on playing this game (at least for a long while) because I just couldn't get into the first one but I'm just finding it interesting, and slightly sad, that games are becoming such a political battleground. Undoubtedly there are people who have legit issues with story/gameplay but there's clearly other issues at play (something something woke, something something SJW)

After reading the spoilers, leaker actually saved me some money, cheers, I am skipping this, not going to be even close to the quality of the original. Plus all the agenda pushing in it...bloody hell.

They just want you to explain that post. You made like 40 plus posts after that and haven’t explained what you meant by that. Just explain and then people can move on.

During my teens and early 20s I was adamant the Beatles were shit and overrated, even though I'd never listened to them and based all my opinion of the band of some of the crappy pop songs they released earlier in the bands life.
Turns out actually listening to a full album is the best way to form an opinion on a band, similarly to how actually playing a game is the best way to form an opinion on it.

I’ve read the first page on metacritic and the user reviews seem to add up to what the general feeling on the last of us subreddit is. It’s definitely not a 3.3 game but it’s not a masterpiece like the reviewers are saying either.

I’ll be playing it some more tonight with a case of cold beer.

Meh, I can guess what he's going to do next, what he's waiting for.

Hey, the only people who get near my whole are my fiancée and jebus.

Figured you might like that ;)

Yes, because you have to be brilliant writer to see if a story is bad. Nice logic!

Like someone already said in here, this place is one of the rare where people are positive about this game, mainly because you haven't played through this shit. And even if you hate it you wont admit it.

This conversation is pointless because I talk with knowing the whole story, and you are arguing against something you haven't even seen yet, and then I am accused of talking without context it's hilarious!

And yeah, keep mentioning lesbians in you posts and how that is what people hate, and ignore how everyone knew that after the TLOU DLC that was in 2014, but keep going sport, you might be on to something there. :wenger:

This game has critical acclaim nearly universally will sell a huge amount of copies and more then likely take away a few GOTY awards, its totally fine for you and thousands or other people not to like it that's cool. I personally think game of thrones isn't great but its obviously a great bit of telly as millions of people highly rate it.

Claiming this is a rare place where people are positive about this game is just hilarious, i know tons of people that will be rushing home tonight to play this game and can't wait.

Its fine to not like this, i'm cool with that but trying to proclaim its terrible and we would just lie through our teeth to say we enjoyed it is desperate and straight up bizarre.

Forums is a very niche sample of a population and people that comment on review sites like metacritic even more. Gaming has some of the most hilarious people in the world there is people that will literally swear black is green just because it has a Nintendo, Microsoft or Sony on it.

I always saw you more like Goldie Lookin Chain, and yes I had fun with the pigeon holing. feck that doesn't sound right...

Why is it so difficult for him to understand that with that statement still looming over his head it's impossible to take his opinions on the game seriously? If he would just own what he said and explain it we could just move on. Hey, for all we know he's got a problem with the "all people are scum" agenda and the huge amounts of societal cynicism that are in these games, but we'll never know because he's so damn defensive about being asked to think about what he types.

The first one wasn't either.

I mean gaming is a subjective experience and I certainly enjoyed TLOU but even back then I thought some of its praise was a little OTT as for me it always felt inferior to Uncharted, which I still prefer to this day.

People have become militant about game scores in recent years, and that is typified by the score bombing you see fairly regularly now.

Nothing is. Reviewers always overrate everything.

Even before I play this game, I know it won’t be a 10/10 game for me because like all other Naughty Dog games I have problems with the gameplay aspect of things. I could care less about story. Let the writer make their own characters and story, I am more of a gameplay guy.

But just because it’s not 10/10 doesn’t mean I am not going to play it.

Did you just call me and everyone else scum? Reported.

Abby is a woman isn’t she? I don’t see why some are saying that she’s trans. There has been no conformation and her voice actor was given a female gender at birth. I’m assuming she’s a female. Not that it matters. I played as her yesterday and my gripe with her is I don’t particularly feel a connection to her — that’s all. Anyone that has an issue with her gender or how she identifies is a fecking idiot.

Its 30fps the whole game is an issue (pc elitism activated)

Well he can't now, because as I said if it was something like that he would of said it by now.

Plus that would be a very weak use of agenda pushing

Yep, that's me 100%.

this is what caused the backlash initially. There is a scene I won't go into detail about where people decided she looked too butch to be a woman so must be trans. That's when the agenda allegations started online.

It is true though, I mean I didn't visit every online gaming place on the internet, but I am talking from what I did visit, forums, chats, some streams etc...

So maybe it was worded wrong, should have said rare places I personally visited. And I always said specifically story/writing is bad/lazy to me and many, I didn't mention game as a whole.
But you have to admit there will be people who will lie they enjoyed it just to be victorious in "internet argument", like there will be people that will say they hate it more than they actually do for the same reasons.
Herd mentality and all that.

And about GOTY awards, I'll just say this game is lucky Cyberpunk 2077 is postponed to end of the year and wont be included in those. ;)

But just because it’s not 10/10 doesn’t mean I am not going to play it.

The gameplay is quite good so far — it’s much smoother than first so it’s definitely less clunky in all aspects, whether you’re moving around and going from standing up to going prone to going back up again. When you’re picking up parts and other little stuff — the movement is quite good and fluid so it doesn’t feel like a chore to get through the game. It’s definitely an improvement but not revolutionary as it’s almost identical to uncharted 4/Last Legacy which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The enemies are pretty much as dumb as they always were and are predictable which is a shame but hey it’s like that with most games.

Regarding review bombing, from what I’ve read there now, it’s a lot of fans who have seen the leaks and aren’t happy with the creative direction druckman took — which is fine but it doesn’t necessarily make it a 3.3 game. I’ll play through it and aside from a few things that I already know to be true - I’ll enjoy it for the most part. I think scoring is outdated to be honest and but I’ll say this - I said I wouldn’t be getting the game when I seen the leaks but as you know I did get it anyway and I’m fairly enjoying it so I’m happy that I did. Anyway, I’m away back to bed I’ll be playing it after the football tonight with bucket load of beer.

this is what caused the backlash initially. There is a scene I won't go into detail about where people decided she looked too butch to be a woman so must be trans. That's when the agenda allegations started online.

Let's not forget too that originally the leaks were talking about a lgbt hating cult as the bad guys which sparked off a lot of agenda pushing hate

Well that, of course, is hard on the eyes anyway.

But no, there have been reports of drops. When I play it I'll have a look and see what's what.

I'll be the same but its so different to the individual i will see my dad playing games on his ps4 and its basically a slide show makes me feel sick but he hasn't a clue

Yeah I know 30 isn’t ideal but that’s what ND are going with here so I guess we’ll have to wait until they get a performance patch for the PS5. Though there shouldn’t be a any issues with the 30fps at least according to DF whom I trust.

Exactly. "I'm yet to immerse myself in something that can only truly be judged by immersion but I feel qualified to give an opinion anyway."

For what it's worth, I'm playing it now and it's excellent so far; true enough to the first to feel connected but different enough to justify the existence of a sequel. If the first one gives you everything you want and the prospect of characters changing/ things happening over 5 years is overly taxing, just play the original again and stop spamming review sites with your uninformed, bilious bullsh1t.

Some fecking gamers are something else.

this is what caused the backlash initially. There is a scene I won't go into detail about where people decided she looked too butch to be a woman so must be trans. That's when the agenda allegations started online.

Yeah it’s bizarre that people jumped on her appearance. I’ve seen girls at my rugby club that would flatten her to fecking ground. Strange. Anyway, it doesn’t matter what gender she is or what she looks like, I just don’t particularly feel a strong connection to her and I think having her a playable character is a misstep but it’s not going to stop me from playing the game.

That's fair enough, and you've formed that opinion once you played it.

I know you were one of the posters who said they planned to boycott the game so fair play for acknowledging that you are enjoying it for the most part.

I'm only messing, ill be rushing home and cant wait to play it, i used to always tell me brother to quit moaning when he'd come in and tell me the framerate is terrible whenever i was playing on my ps4 i then got a 144hz monitor too and he wasn't lying but you adjust to either or after 30 mins!

There is a story similar to the first TLOU going on in which Abby (from WLF) is protecting and travelling with a kid who is from the opposing faction to WLF. The kid is trans and had to run away from his/her own faction for fear of getting killed.
p.s. I got this from briefly going through a walkthrough. (I couldn't help myself as I'll only be able to play it sometimes next week)
