The Hurricane Thread | Hurricane Rafael

I get the feeling it's not quite as apocalyptic as it was billed to be. Unless I'm missing something?

I deleted Twitter as a small feck you to Elon. What silliness is going on?
Guy showing a video of birds falling to the deck of a cruise ship near Tampa and asks “what could cause this?” & all the fecking responses are about radiation waves and HAARP manipulation.

Like… I dunno man, probably the fecking hurricane they’re exhausted from fleeing

A greater than 1000 year rain event in St Pete. 126 tornado warnings & dozens of confirmed touchdowns. A Cat 3 landfall which means a wider area got hit with wind / rain / surge…

Florida man* was told in no uncertain terms that they will die if they stay in their homes. If it turns out that people were okay in the hardest hit places then Florida man might not heed future warnings

*I'm not talking about our @Florida Man but rather the huge number of wackjobs that live there.

Something something yay for Darwin :smirk:

That was not fun. The wind was easily 80-100 for hours.
Fair amount of damage, my house is good though.

For anyone wondering about the Trop, it was not used as a shelter, a decsion I think was taken at last minute.

Glad y'all made it through with only some damage.

People in Tampa were told that if Milton kept its current track that they would die in their homes.

Wonder how many nutters will see that as absolute proof God is real and indeed protected him. You know there will be many.
Also it'll prove that Harris was behind the whole thing, and once the MAGA geniuses figured it all out she called the Scientists and told them to dial the hurricane down a couple of notches.

Trump will be saying Harris and Biden lied about the severity of the storm. Just watch.

You re probably both right and its yet another reason why I hate this timeline.

See this is what is confusing me. I saw a post on Instagram earlier that said "May God Be With Florida".

But if you believe in God enough to say that, then you believe he made the heaven and the Earth. So God made the hurricane happen. So what's the sentiment there? "May God Be With Florida as God Hits It With a Hurricane He Made"

My house in Tampa is okay. No real damage and no flooding. Many branches and leaves everywhere. Still without in the neighborhood though. Imagine I’ll be in Charlotte through the weekend at the very least.

Wouldn’t put it past him but it’s more likely his campaign will continue to target the inability of FEMA and the federal government to help affected people. Pinellas County, where St. Petersburg is, is typically strong red and is already devastated from initial reports, so it’s not gonna make sense to use the “lied about the severity” angle.

Glad you’re alright and that your home is good too.

Strange thing to fixate on.

For the record - Milton made landfall just 12 miles south of where the NHC originally predicted.

Which made all the difference in the world. Tampa and St Pete etc escaped potentially catastrophic storm surge.

We did fine, no power but so far house seems fine. Will have to see how the roof fared. Friends backyard screen got damaged bad but that's mostly it in our area

Got really really lucky

Eastern side of Florida didn't fare as well with sudden random tornadoes.

I doubt they're worried about FL campaign wise, the narrative is for elsewhere

Oh, 100% made all the difference in the world, I’m just posting that to highlight how close it was to being a “yeah, all of Tampa is now under a dozen feet of water”

Yeah, Tampa dodged a huge bullet on that. The Mrs. has a friend that wouldn't leave Carrolwood... she got lucky.

I was born and have lived in Florida most of my 50 years, mostly in Lake County. This is the worst that's ever come all the way across the state in my lifetime. With the slightly more southern track, we avoided tornadoes, unlike the east coast. As for my immediate family, we evacuated yesterday morning to some friends close to Memphis, TN. Yes, about a 12 hour trip, but after most of Tampa had fled there was almost no traffic on US19. The only time I have EVER evacuated. My neighborhood, indeed the whole town, is now out of power. My sons stayed in the next town over, they still have power. Lots of downed trees, and I'm talking from the roots, not just sheared or broken off. I'm picking up a generator at Harbor Freight on my way back Saturday because we've heard we may not have power back until Monday.
