The Guardian

Is this true of reporters alone or also columnists/opinion?
I only know a bunch of personal finance and City reporters who I've worked with tbf. The obnoxious columnists like Littlejohn may well believe their own crap.

Guardian columnist said:
I once picked a nit out of my hair on live TV as Tony Parsons was talking

Guardian Most Viewed:

4. May tells Tory MPs: "I got us into this mess and I'm going to get us out of it"
5. "Should I shave my pubic hair?"

I didn't know that Magritte was a woman 'til I read that, chiefo.

Eugh.

Stuff like this boils my piss. There are enough genuine reasons to criticise Trump that it staggers me people think it's a good idea to either invent some others or publish this sort of egregious fan fiction.

All it does is embolden people to dismiss genuine stories as more lies and to create more 'noise' to suffocate the real stories in.

Sometimes the Guardian irritates me as much as any red-top. Why does it make columnists out of such culturally-ignorant amateurs?
Guardian said:
Due to his huge success, Morrissey is the apotheosis of the problem this causes – namely, that the white, male voice has the monopoly on articulating the human condition, and therefore pretty much defining what it is to be a person. If you aren’t a white man, you have to silence sections of your brain to engage with nearly all the art you love, and this can slowly erode the part of you that believes you are a real person too. It’s the wrong time to be kneeling at the altar of Morrissey, who has led generations of fans to twist themselves into his image – whether they’re truly like him or not.

'My identity is not your fad': how indie got woke
Indie has a voice – and it’s white, male and whiney.

From a different article published the day before. Corroborating evidence or what. Don't be slept.

In truth, I think the issue of diversity of views and our lack of exposure to them, particularly in the arts is an issue and a sadness. That it continues to be trivialised by a generation of superficial, blog-for-food dickheads just heightens the depression.

Shoard and Bradshaw having to moonlight as lifestyle columnists was surely Graun-art's death knell.

Article calling for something called 'eco-conscription':

What if all students spent a year working the land before university?

The last paragraph:

"Of course there will be those who believe that this is wrong, that there should not be a compulsion to take part in eco-conscription. And it would be wrong of me to insist that everyone take part. So there will be an opportunity for opponents to state their case and to become, in effect, “conscientious objectors”. They could be given the alternative job of joining the army."

You're going to have to enlighten me on who this is, I'm not that well versed in Chinese history (assuming he's Chinese)
Qinshihuang, founder of Imperial China. He was quite fond of "recruiting" his peasant to work for the empire to finish some of his projects like parts of the great wall or his mausoleum. Any farmer between ~16-60 could be forced to work about a month per year; longer if necessary. There are quite a few interesting parallels between him and Mao.

Brilliant read. Also hope that guy is ok .
Yeah, I was expecting the requests to be more tawdry, but they were actually more dark and often sad. There are clearly many people out there with deep psychological issues (and a lot of money).
Was heartening that they made that vid for the guy anyway for no charge.
That story and a bunch of others is on his new podcast. Which looks great.
I might have a look. I was never a massive fan, but I enjoyed that read and was impressed by his thoroughness too, eg contacting the lawyer in Italy.

It seems with the stamp guy it was almost a act liberation but yeah the non erotic elements sort of made it seem rather lonely. Like the flying squatting one, fair enough if thats his thing(I'm sure we've all got some weird kink thing)but I image theres a chance he's treating the videos as some sort of relationship simulator, basically a very shit episode of black mirror.

Although having said that in some ways it can be seen as a progressive move forward, firstly is it anymore lonely then what the majority of people do, jumped on to a giant host site and click on the first video that tickles their fancy, so while the content might be different there is some connection between the person making the videos and the person watching. And then secondly porn actors are workers so least with these custom videos they are getting paid unlike when people use host site.

Not just is the article content interesting, the way the writer has paced it is great too.
He writes very well. You should check out his books.
The one where he meets people who have being shamed online is very good and also its a small-ish read but I really enjoyed his book about Frank Sidebottom(Ronson used to be in Franks band for a while).

Not seen the Frank one, must look out for that, didn't know Ronson was in the Freshies but it's not exactly something Frank publicised either, he was not best pleased with me when I was DJing before a gig he did at our Uni and I went straight from "I'm in Love with the Girl from the Manchester Virgin Megastore Checkout Desk" to his intro.

I've read Them, The Men Who Stare at Goats and the Psychopath Test by Ronson and read excerpts from the Internet Shaming one. His writing is always far, far better than his presenting, his journalistic instincts and more thorough research shine through in his writing but when he tries to present he comes across as a more nerdy version of Louis Theroux.

Thats a great story.

From I remember from the book(And the opening of the film Frank is loosely based on this)Ronson got a call out of blue to be the bands keyboard player after the former player was hospitalised(I think from a attempted suicide).

Agree with this. I think Theroux used to be the same(The wrestling and the his porn documentary were very nerdy)but his more recent stuff has been extremely good(The one about US healthcare is some of the best tv ever)

I actually always thought that Louis Theroux's nervy awkwardness helped make the programme what it was. Loved his weird weekends.
Was never quite so keen on his super serious stuff, eg the meths programmes. Preferred when he was hanging with Terre-Blanche, gently jibing him over liking black musicians and the like.

For me something it works and other times I've felt it sort of held the show back although the Paul Daniels episode is up there with my favourites.
