The greatest Manchester United player

Best. The buzz that went round the ground when Best got the ball was amazing. He seems to me more elegant or graceful than Ronaldo.

George Best is by a margin the greatest footballer the club has seen.

Bobby Charlton is its greatest player, not just for what he did on the pitch, but who he was off it.

Best

Charlton is probably technically the right answer but for me Best represents the pure romance and theatre of the club

I'm going to have to give it Giggsy.

Most appearances for the club, most trophies, and other than SAF, the face of the most successful era in the club's history.

Football changed a lot in the 90s and 2000s. Our football changed. But the one constant was Giggsy.

Other than all the records and accolades that quantify his greatness, he was such a great a player to watch.

Edwards, Charlton, Best.

Put all three names in a hat and repeatedly pull one out and drop it back in. Doesn't matter which one comes out.

Other than sbc others have their own shortcoming

Ronaldo : not being with us long enough, not even in his prime

Best : drunk and not winning as much as the other (great, but we're talking about greatest here)

Giggs : isnt really a great player by the high standard. A very good player and our longest serving player, but among the pantheon of great players he's not that great.

Sir Bobby. Not just as a player, for which is among the best but more importantly, his role and impact on club's future post Munich. He also played part in bringing SAF to OT. The club owes so much to him. Even purely as a player on field he can be in contention to be greatest but his importance to the club otherwise tilts it in his favour decisively for me.

Given the responses wish id been alone to see Best play... In VDO's he looks slow as the game has sped up so much now.

How to define best? For me it's a combination of technique, impact on team, impact on fans, trophy haul, aura and legacy.

From what I saw, I have to say Cantona.

George Best is probably the best player ever to pull on a Utd shirt imo. He gets my vote.

Sir Bobby Charlton and, even that is without taking into account his off-field duties and post United-career.

Charlton.

His career spans the Munich-to-Wembley years and his individual talent and accomplishments as a player comes on top of that. Easy choice for me.

I appreciate Aldo’s Best argument above, though - he’s pretty much the quintessential United player: Romantic, brilliant, historically great - and a winger, of course.

Edwards has to be mentioned too, but for me he belongs in that other category people make lists for: He’s a legend, THE legend, whose brief career (and lack of extensive footage) only enhances his legendary status.

For the Fergie era, it’s Cantona for me. It started with him - and that’s all you need to know, really. Clearly not a footballer on the level of the others mentioned, but that’s a different debate.

Georgie Best.

Even in those old footages of him playing in patchy fields with heavy balls, he looks rapid.
Imagine what he could have done today what with all the new lighter balls and even pitches and extra protection from the referees

Oot but how good is edwards? What's his today equivalent of?

I admit i never saw him play
He finished 3rd in Ballon D'Or vote aged 21 (and was 13th a year before). Pretty much everyone who've seen him play name him as the best talent they've seen, and Charlton himself said multiple times that Edwards was better than him (and we all know how good Sir Bobby was). Wasn't a silky Maradona-esque dribbler but rather an amazing all-rounder who played all over the pitch. Don't think that we have anyone like him today

Here's more of a defensive performance from him

Thank you

In terms of what? Ability? Best closely followed by Ronaldo and Scholes.

In terms of longetivity and service, Giggs, Charlton and maybe an unpopular choice but I'm going to say Wayne.

Overall, to answer the thread one name, Best.

Of the players, I've seen- Rooney.

Sir Bobby! I saw him for the first time as an England player '66. He was my favorite footballer before Man Utd became my favorite club
