Television The Grand Tour (Prime Video)

Does anyone else think Top Gear's charm reduced as the budget increased? The shows in which they broke down in a 1500 quid banger trying to drive across the country were the peak shows to me.

You could tell when the spontaneity was lost when they started scripting the news and it became painfully unfunny. I feel this show is a continuance of the big budget/low entertainment factor.

Think your on about the Supercar for the price of a second hand Mondeo, they were going to a lapdancing club and JC car engine exploded, one of the better eps.

That was a great episode but they did a few similar in the early days. The Porsche for 1500 and coupe for 1500 that ended in an endurance race spring to mind.

The super car one was actually the second one they did. Then came Porsche, then budget coupes which are NOT a Porsche, perfomance limousines (that one was great) etc.

It lost its way when they realised a large part of their demographic was made up of women aged 30-55 and started to tailor the programme towards Sunday night entertainment rather than the blokes car show it used to be.

Sure, it's very good. You'll see beautiful France, Germany and Austria, and some sweet car rides. Used Maseratis first, then some expensive luxury SUVs.

I'd give this series a 6/10, while it has satisfied my Top Gear craving it doesn't really do anything better than the Clarkson, Hammond, May Top Gear. Moreover there's several things that hold the series back, in particular is how much of it is scripted. Maybe because I'm older now and I can spot what is scripted but in the old new Top Gear everything came off much more naturally even if it was probably scripted. Secondly, this Celebrity Brain Crash thing shouldn't have gone past week one, although the final was quite funny imo. Third, the American has to go, the final episode gets bonus points for not having him in the show and I get the feeling Clarkson doesn't even like that much. I know they can't get The Stig but just make some old F1 driver the tame racing driver.

I think it will make a find addition to Dave's daytime line-up in 2 years time.

They're so much better when they're not scripted.

21:53 - They give a very sensible answer on the demise of Top Gear.

Guys a question, is it worth watching the whole season if I hated episode 3 (grand tour in Italy)? Actually it was really awful, like it's not a car show anymore - that we've seen earlier on original Top Gear but the last episode was actually teribbly not-funny. The "Hammond in a loud muscle car" was funny for the first two minutes, but tiring in the next 45. I don't mind it being scripted as long as it's funny and about cars - which it isn't.

Yes and no..
Its a bit like that with a few stand out moments..

The series was dreadful apart from the first beach buggy in Africa episode.

Much preferring this "second" series of the new top gear. Harris is giving it credibility again for petrol heads

Injured his knee apparently.

How many serious accidents whilst dicking about in ridiculously fast cars does it take before you stop dicking about in ridiculously fast cars? I think 2 is about right.

Second big crash he's had this year... That and James May looking thoroughly bored for the whole first season makes me think they'll see out their current deal then call it a day.

Very relieved to hear he's not seriously hurt, but fecking hell it's him again  I read something from him not that long ago about him not taking any more silly risks for the sake of his family, but here we are again.

Always him, the poor fecker, glad he's ok.

Like the look of the car though.

It's a hillclimb, it's not like he was dicking around like an idiot.

I'm no fan of his, he's an irritating turd, but I'd wager some kind of issue with the car caused the accident judging from the very short snippet of video. Perhaps a suspension failure or something judging from the way it seemed to snap away in the corner.

Good to know he's alright. Very strange accident though so I'm going to agree that there was probably some fault with the car. The upside here is that there's one less electric car on the road.. silver lining and all that.

Either going too fast or brake failure, went in far to hot for that corner.

Yep, thought he was definitely going too fast there and his line was far from great.

Credit to the manufacturers. Being able to remove yourself from an accident like that is a credit to the build.

Car setting itself on fire after this crash isn't really great advertisement for them.
