Gaming The Golden Age of Video Games is Over

There have been a lot of excellent modern games. Outer Wilds was class, loved Kingdom Come Deliverance (the second one is coming out soon), Ghost of Tsushima was really satisfying in some ways but was a little shallow (a new one is coming out, hopefully it's a little meatier). There are plenty more than I'm forgetting but games are only getting better in my opinion.

I think Western AAA studios have gone stale after being amazing in the 90s and 2000s. The likes of Blizzard, Bungie and Bethesda made some high quality games during that period, but there seems to have been a slump in the past decade with gaming becoming more accessible and those newcomers want their games to be more narrative driven than gameplay driven, and have it essentially be an interactive movie.

There are good games being made but it’s just not coming from one of the big Western studios a lot of the time. It’s usually Japanese companies and indie devs. I think the last truly innovative and cool game that a Western AAA studio created was when Valve made Half-Life:Alyx.

Baldur's Gate 3?

Why are we talking about amazing games from this generation and listing games from over a decade ago?

Obviously the games released nowadays aren’t as good and aren’t as played.
