The Former United Youth/Reserves Thread

Great signing for Ipswich. If he can stay fit, they'll have a fantastic back line.

Big if. Tuanzebe his problem is that he cant stay fit at all. If he could stay fit he would be a starting Premier League player.
True, maybe will be managed better though in a lower pressure environment. Certainly will follow Ipswich a bit more now.

Joel Pereira is currently without a club after RKC Waalwijk released him at the end of his contract this summer.

He started the first two games in 2021 when he signed for them, but a hernia injury kept him out of the team for the remainder of the season. He was on the bench towards the end of that season but never recovered that starting position.

Played three games last season, lost all three conceding 11 goals in the process.

35 caps for Portugal U17-U21 but his career seems to be going downhill. Too bad, seems like a lovely lad and he sure had some goalkeeping talent too.
Back to England, and joined Reading

Demetri Mitchell scored the winner for Exeter last night as they knocked out Luton in the EFL Cup. Then sent off a few minutes later for a harsh 2nd yellow. Mengi made his debut for Luton.

And then Fernandez entered the pitch at half-time and helped turn 0-3 to 3-3

A United XI played a Hibernian XI yesterday as a testimonial for David Gray.

The likes of Wes Brown, Phil Bardsley, Darren Gibson, Danny Drinkwater and Darren Fletcher had a run out for United. Reading the squad list there was one surprising name for United that stood out and that was Ravel Morrison, which is great to see that he's getting involved in matches like this for United.

Anyone watch the game. How was Mengi. Always had high hopes for him. He's surely a better 4th choice than Lindlof

Very solid - Ross Barkley should probably be considered MOTM - but Mengi and Lockyer can't be far behind

Do we have a buy back clause with him?

The deal with Mengi was undisclosed, but I think there's a chance we have since we did it for both Kovar and Iqbal. We only had sell-on for Laird though (probably didn't since Birmingham is on the Championship and we don't see a path for Laird returning straight to us without going to a PL club first in-between)

Mengi is pretty solid recently. I guess we have buy back, but probably solid percentage of next sale and if everything goes well for him with Luton next year he might get sale to PL club in 2 years for solid amount.

Callum Gribbin, Matthew Olusunde, Tom Thorpe, Eric Hanbury, Ro-Shaun Williams, Joe Thompson & Oliver Kilner have been back training at the club this week.

This is the first of many scheduled events that will make up our Alumni Programme. We have always been fantastic at engaging with former players and keeping in contact to offer support and guidance. The Academy has decided to formalise this approach with the launch of a formal alumni programme in the new year (working title United Once, United Forever). The programme will see us contact a population of 227 former players; these are players that have left us since 2012 and were registered with us over the age of 15 or for a period of 5 years or more. Of course if players that fall outside of this cohort make contact we won’t turn them away.

Really brilliant stuff.

Do we have a buy back clause on Mengi. Guy looks really good. Shame we never gave him a chance. With him, Willy and Martinez we had the basis of a really good central defense. With Varane acting as the experienced head

Mengi was awful the last 12 months playing for the reserves - I am glad things are improving for him, but there are better (almost) 22 year old central defenders out there

Nice to see so many former youth players flourishing in the PL, Mengi, Garner, Elanga and Pereira all making significant impacts at their respective clubs. Not to mention others like Chong, Johnstone, Henderson, Welbeck and Keane playing their part. Strong United representation.

Ramazani scored against Madrid tonight, linked with Everton this Jan.

They certainly love more La Carrington graduates. Linked with Hannibal too.
Mes que un club, la.

They've probably done the best out of signing players that haven't made it with us, so it's a good gig for them.

Pretty good career so far for Ramazani. Taking a chance in Segunda, promotion and keeping place in Primera, playing, scoring a few goals. Honestly with his size and talent, it is above my expectations.

Our former U23/U21 keeper Paul Woolston who was forced to retire a couple of years ago due to an injury, has joined National League side Hartlepool as a first team goalkeeping coach. He’s done some punditry work for MUTV since his retirement.

Ex-United Zidane Iqbal has played 2 of the 3 games which see Iraq top of their group in the African Cup of Nations with 3 wins

Looked quality at this level here against Vietnam

Mejia scored again, 2 goals in 2 games for Sevilla Atletico. It is 4th tier in Spain.

Joe Rothwell scored 2 goals for Southampton today. Don't know if he ever scored 2 in a game before :)

Martin Svidersky scored his first professional goal for Real Murcia in the Spanish 3rd tier.

Has had a nightmare with injuries in Spain too & is only recently back from a second ACL injury, so great to see him playing again.

They also spelled his name wrong on his shirt
