I do not feel bad anymore. All the three players I was considering - Hierro, Brehme and Nedved were taken! Should have listened to Edgar

Poisoned chalice according to Anto, I called it Cruyff all over again, changing my pick from him to Lahm started the whole sheep dilemma. Should be interesting how you play with Scholes, Savicevic and Totti in the team.

Polaroid is the winner. Gio also has a cracking pick.

I have a plan in mind. Totti was always my main man from the beginning. Would have been gutted if you'd nabbed him straight off the bat.

Round 4 Criteria

Pick a player who was knocked out in the group stages of the World Cup / European Championships / Copa America.

You will have to tell me the year and the tournament in which the player was knocked out.

For your reference, these are the tournaments in consideration :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_World_Cup
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_European_Championship
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copa_America

Remark : The player needs to be in the registered squad for the tournament in which his nation was knocked out. It doesn't matter even if he did not play a single minute.

Reminders :

1. All players must be born after 30 October 1960.
2. You must have a goalkeeper by Round 9.

Deadline : 1100 UK time, 15 Feb or when I get the last pick.

Team German sheppard:

How is that as the core for the most German team ever? Who needs Matthäus.

How's Sammer rated on here, btw? Another career that ended way too early because of injuries. He played his last league game with 29 and then became the youngest manager ever to win the Bundesliga in 2002, only 35 years old at the time.

I absolutely love Sammer. Comparatively short peak, yes, but he was a monster at his prime. Leadership, defensive nous, great ability on the ball, versatile as well. Great pick specially in a sheep draft where you can accommodate him later in two positions.

Yeah, I can play him as centerback, libero/sweeper or as a mean midfield with Effenberg. All three options are brilliant.

Really curious about your plans now, TITO. I'm a huge Totti and Savicevic fan, I actually thought about Savicevic as my first attempt pick in the last round, but I thought Chesterle might go for him and I didn't want him to get blocked. Really curious about his Milan influenced theme as well.

And we have finally one quality fullback, who isn't banned . Congrats @antohan

 more will pop in my head soon.

Did not expect all this when I woke up this morning  Lovely picks and I'm astonished that the two who failed didn't play it safer going into the 3rd pick

He was in my plans to begin with. But I foresaw some possible "out of position" issues with him. He's a great favourite of mine, though - thrilled that he'll feature here.

Nedved was always my safety pick for second round. There's one player I wish I'd pick over Matthaus but I was sure he'll get picked. Bloody hell

I don't think it should be an issue. Scholes and Savicevic would work well around Totti. The issue with Totti for me has always been the fact that to get the best out of him, you need him to be THE MAN in the team, everything should go through him and all. He has never been a player who can be on the periphery of the schemes and add to what the team is doing. In this case, with Scholes and Savicevic, he will enjoy that tag and give his best.

In terms of positions as well it can be worked as Scholes can play as CM while Savicevic was great as a wide playmaker as well, and great at taking on his man.

Same here. Amazing player.

Also, am I the only one who thinks Totti deserved the Ballon D'or in 2007? Totti was absolutely fantastic throughout the season in the league. Sure we thrashed Roma 7-1 and that ended his European campaign, but I've always thought he was better overall than the guy who won it and really deserved it.

Yep. Pretty much spot on Aldo. Totti is the main man, Scholes in midfield when he played in the 90's with a certain Frenchman as the Utd 10. Edit: Basically what I mean is, Scholes has always been fine with other players being the main man.

Totti is absolutely incredible, TITO will do him justice here which I'm very happy about.

Yes. Totti would have won more than one Ballon d'Or if he moved to a big club, imo, and could have easily carried one of the big teams to European success. Love him to bits.

The reason I changed my pick in the first round really was only because it was Cruyff all over again. I didn't want to rebuild that Roma side with him as a false 9 and decided to do something different would be more fun after the last draft.

Having a dilemma now. :(
Star striker, centre midfielder, winger, fullback, or defender? Hmm...

@AldoPaine18
could you colour the sheeps in the teams list? If that's not too much work :). I think it would be great, if you instantly recognised sheeps when you look at the teams.

Isn't that a sheep worthy colour?

Meh, those sheep weren't much cop really, Kuyt and Kalou would have been better

We should force all managers to use that colour for sheeps throughout the tournament. Every time we use the name, it has to be in that colour, in the teamsheet, in the player profiles, in the tactics. I'm sure @antohan would be happy with it, then no one can confuse the Pachecos.

Why is Pongolle seen as such a huge joke, out of interest? I can't say that I watched a lot of English football in the early-2000s.
