The First Redcafe Sheep Draft

Look at that. Nine boys with nothin', then, by my count.

Glad for Balu - I know he really wanted Scholl. Fine, fine player too - always liked him.

Don't know who to spring for, really, as my final block. Bit of a tossup, this. But I'll send a pick shortly, as I'm sure y'all are eager as feck to get it over with.

Current Team:

Kopke

Cafu Nadal Gamarra Leonardo

Makelele Essien

Fabregas
Litmanen Kaka
RvN

Thoughts?

Edit: Didn't format at all like I liked. I'll do a formatino chart later

Who did you replace with Fabregas?

He's imo also the better fit for that playmaking AM role in a 532, while Basler is more of a winger.

That was the plan when I switched to the all German theme when I changed my pick from van Basten to Effenberg in the 2nd round:

Kohler instead of Helmer was brilliant, never expected to get him and Kroos instead of Schweinsteiger is as great a backup as I can think of. Glad, that most of you stayed away from all the Germans :D

Edgar is probably asleep.. so we will have to wait till the morning!

He was on seven beers and a couple of gins not too long ago. If he's around he'll be plastered. Hopefully Brwned has the co-managerial authority to make the call. Unless they're too clever for their own good it shouldn't be a huge decision anyway.

No comments you cnuts?
Looks very good to me. Fabregas has completely changed your team. I thought you had a great start to the draft and a poor-ish end which culminated in that 352 which would have seen you lose the first round against most teams. With Cesc in and change in formation, you are easily one of the favorites. I don't see a weakness and those full backs are a god-send since you need the width with those front 3.

I'd much prefer Makelele protecting the defence with Essien and Fabregas as CMs. Don't see the point of three AMs there, your issue was needing a ball player from deep. You got him... then push him forward. He'll make runs, obviously, but his default role should be in the centre of the park.

I don't think I'm supposed to tell till the round is over..

Eh? I mean as in your first XI, you must have had one before the upgrades so I was wondering who dropped to the bench from your team. Why couldn't you say that?

Agreed.

Even with that set up it is obvious Makelele would be sitting in front of back four while Essien would be doing his box to box routine.

Hehe, Kohler over Helmer is an absolute coup - both in terms of quality and public appeal.

Scholl over Basler any day too - and he is clearly a better fit in that role. Never liked Basler anyway - just something about him.

We'll see how Müller fares with the voters. You might love him more than the average mug does - just saying. Nevertheless, you have a brilliant team there - and true to a theme as well, which counts as a plus in my book at least.

Oh that. Mexes to the bench. Nadal stays in defence. Fab in midfield

Agree with that actually. Will probably switch it if sully thinks the same.

Yeah neither of us could research properly for the end. Work is a bitch.
Think it ended well though.

No one does, I really don't know a single person who likes him. The backup for Scholl was actually Hässler, but the criteria made it impossible. He still stays in the team though, Frings leaves, I don't like him either .

According to Aldo, I was very very close for another absolute coup in the first stage of this round :(. I didn't really want him in my team, but it would have been a hell of a midfield then. Really curious who prevented that from happening.

A potential point of interest here is how much people (voters) will consider a player's peak versus his all time reputation. My man Malouda, for instance, and I feel free to mention him now that he has stormed out of my office, was a highly regarded player at his peak - but has since fallen considerably in repute. Of the players here Essien seems like another obvious example.

And on a similar note, there are several managers here who depend on the services of players people might consider unproven (players who are not only active, but even developing at the moment) compared to others in the draft.

 The ponytail? Annoying. Definitely annoying. Apart from that I quite liked him as a player.

No problem. Basler's plastered by now anyway getting his hands full with chebs at the strip club, having stormed off in a rage following Balu's acquisition of Scholl, calling Buchwald an "anti-football" cnut.

Maybe I should have kept Frings in the squad then.

What Anto said.

------Makelele
Fabregas---Essien

If you want Kaka and Litmanen to play you just place them as psuedo AM/CFs.

Aye. Depends on how people view these characters, though. As the manager of an opposing force, I'd say it looks a bit light both here and there. Makelele, Essien and Fabregas is too heavy on solidity and too light on creativity, I'd say. You'd depend largely on the latter for pure creativity. And does he actually cut it compared to the wizards we have here in similar roles? You might not need all that much ingenuity from your midfield three, of course. But Litmanen is a bit lightweight, surely. Given what we're dealing with here. Not bad, but surely not great. Kaka? Yeah, brilliant on his day. Great match for the others? Not too sure.
