The First Redcafe Sheep Draft

My team before losing three times in banned list draft:

Ince deep and right to help cover for Righetti-Sanchez weak side, Baines-Nedved and Laudrup-Crespo  .. And the Terry-Carvalho combo is brilliant.

Thoughts?

You've recovered really well from the sheep picks mate. I love that Ince/Modric/Laudrup axis in the centre, and Crespo's a good choice of striker with Laudrup behind him. Ince is a really strong pick at that late stage.

@VivaJanuzaj

Although I feel like a team could probably get at your full backs and have the freedom of the flanks in general, less so down your left with Nedved there, but it is a very strong spine and as @Pat_Mustard said, you've recovered well from ye sheeps.

For my money I'd rather stick with De Boer on the left. That's a more natural fit in my opinion. And what you get from fielding Beckham is a player who doesn't actually have to push up that high in order to be dangerous. He can bend in those deadly long-rangers of his from positions that would be impossible for almost any other "winger".
I agree. Countless times for Barcelona or Holland De Boer would push out from centre-half onto his left and unfurl a telling long ball. That just isn't going to happen on the right. I appreciate Mihajlovic is there and can do a similar role, but possession there can enable him to push that bit higher. Meanwhile, Stam is proven both on the centre and on the right.

@Pat_Mustard @Stobzilla Thanks for the feedbacks! I feel like I really recovered well indeed and glad with the results..
Stobz I think my team is pretty solid from the wings, as I tried to get the necessary cover for them - Righetti won't be roaming any forward because he's basically a CB with the little option of playing RB, and since Alexis won't track as much as Nedved(although Alexis has discipline and tracks back often) I put Ince on that right hand side to help that right wing, where Baines is not a liability defensively at all, but with Nedved's work rate I don't have any fears..

For my money I'd make it a more obvious 4-3-2-1 and move Cambiasso to the right of the three in the middle, leaving Maldini at left back and leave Jorginho where he is.

That way Cambiasso can move out and provide support to the full back when needed and you don't leave that up to Ballack who will be key in driving you out of defence.

But then you get into the whole silly "covering two positions" debate which I have little time for, like professional footballers of this standard wouldn't see danger and try to cover.

Good call on swapping Cambiasso and Ballack. I'm not sure it's a 4321 though, Rui Costa is there supporting the midfield while Baggio's playing just off Shevchenko. If anything I'd be more inclined to push Baggio forward to avoid any confusion but the reason he's slightly deeper is just a simple way of saying he has the freedom to drift around. Primarily he'll be working his magic in the final third while Rui Costa knits things together in midfield.

Of course he can, but surely you can't have both him and Mihajlovic just showering crosses from deep, you would be better off with one of them also supporting further upfield and Beckham is better suited to that, which implies you need cover for him on that flank.

Trust me, I'm not the biggest de Boer fan, but I can acknowledge when he is better suited to a job than someone else and that is not what you want Stam to be doing.

Point taken - but then you could question the wisdom in sporting that wide combination (Mihajlovic-Beckham) to begin with. Which I no doubt will if I come up against 'em. Of the two, though, who are you going to task with showering crosses? Clearly Beckham for me. That's what he does better than most - it's what makes him stand out. You could sport any number of players on that side who are both faster and better one-on-one than him.

So, you let him cross - and you play Mihajlovic in a more modest, defensive fullback role. He's capable of that.

It's a fair combination, so long as he proposes to play that way, that's why I asked earlier. I'd agree he would be better off with Beckham crossing from deep, an actual winger on the left and de Boer covering for him, out left. Right now he can't though, clearly.

Agreed. And I will use that very point against him if our paths...er...cross.

Thoughts while we are here ? It is I think maybe the second or best result that I have had, my Nations/all time one was quite good but this is up there after the initial stages.

You're welcome :wenger:

I have almost decided to let the dream of The Rock go. I might go for a more offensive approach. We'll see. Depends on who I face. The one who has to leave the team is obvious, though. Don't think people like him much. I don't like him much either, to be honest. And he has nothing on The Rock in terms of personal charm.

Completely unrelated, but just came across this after a chat on the elevator pointing me in that direction. Also speaks volumes about one unpicked player here, and I'm bored anyway.

Back in June, Uruguay were all over the shop in qualifying. Having led them early on, we went on a string of bad results picking up 2 points (two home draws) out of a possible 18. Forlán was "past it and too distracted by his love life", Pérez was "spent", Lugano had been "warming benches for a fat fee for three years" and Suárez, well, you know, he had only just bit someone FFS!

It wasn't just external influences. Inside the camp Hernández was bitching about never getting a look in, Abreu was fed up of being the team's mascot cameraman, Cavani was getting divorced and dating some supermodel after two-timing his wife with a teammates' wife, with his wife hitting back by doing the same... Even the players' moms got involved with Lugano's mum having an ongoing shit-dishing contest with Cavani's who insisted her boy shouldn't be shunted on the wing when he was clearly a superstar, not like the three Diegos who were past it.

Turmoil, and the table looked ominous:

Five games to go, three away to those ahead of us and two at home to the top 2 sides (aggregate score in those two away games 7-0). Awesome, we were royally fecked...

But nope, on came:
Venezuela 0-1 Uruguay
Perú 1-2 Uruguay
Uruguay
2-0 Colombia
Ecuador 1-0 Uruguay
Uruguay 3-2 Argentina

So what happened? Just got told from a first hand source this video is legit. Lugano actually seems to have used his spare time at PSG practising video-editing to a level the average caftard would be proud of. He put this together and his team-talk prior to that Venezuela game consisted of making them watch it:

Good work captain!

That's basically doping, no matter what endeavour in life, you watch that any given Sunday speech and you will win.

Cutch, you lucky fecker. I was very close to blocking him but felt really bad about him missing out. I really need to rip my heart out!

Damn. Looks like I probably won't be getting Redondo or van Basten. :(

Woah, that's an excellent video. Well done, indeed.

Worst part is he took a pay cut to get some regular footie and isn't playing much at WBA either :(

Contrast that with our elders: Rio tweeting, Vidic fecking off elsewhere and Rooney too busy getting himself a fat contract :annoyed:

I've sent my last block as well.

@AldoPaine18
do we have to send you, what player we want to replace with our last pick?
