The first Cricket sheep thread

If it wasn't enough to get the black bradman, we now welcome bradman's deputy and to whom he said "if I could bat like you, I would be a proud man". Imagine what could have made that happen.

Triple shot of whisky? Overdosing on shrooms?

Considered going for Rohan Kanhai and Neil Harvey both for my second pick but seeing Varun and Mani get all excited and so many players getting their picks on Passed in the First Round, decided against it.
Couldn't help ourselves after getting Rohan Kanhai .

There were 3 names we considered and among NM, Crappy and Aldo, we were afraid we'd get blocked. NM got one of them but Crappy and Aldo stayed away from the 3.

Yeah, it was time to use my wild card.

Before the draft had even started, I had set eyes on McCabe. I had expected to see him slip under the radar for a while and he did. There was no way I wasn't gambling for Sir Leonard this round and did get pretty close to getting him (been missing the big fish - Sir Viv, Sir Jack, Sir Len - by whiskers in the last few rounds :( ) but after that it was pretty clear that I need to secure his class and quality, and what's not to like about having a second invincible in the team. I hope I get enough time to talk about him, Headley and Tallon, all three have been talked about in the highest esteem by peers, journalists and experts over the years.

Harvey and Kanhai are both my personal favourites as well, specially Harvey.

Don't know much about him so looking forward to reading your write up. The round where everyone skipped all the greats in round 1 and everyone went for them round 2 was hilarious, absolutely mental.

Woah.. How do you guys know so much about cricket? I feel like a sheep around here :nervous:

The documentation of cricket over the years is amazing, you find so many resources, literature, stats even from the nineteenth century about players who don't have a single clip on camera, etc. Magazines like Wisden have massive archives where you can find articles about virtually everyone.

I used to read quite a bit especially about key events such as the bodyline series, where you will come across the aura of the invincible and McCabe was a key figure of that team.

Yeah, the amount of information on players dating all the way back to the 19th century is staggering. And this draft has probably made me read more about cricket in the last few weeks alone than probably my entire life.
Btw, I had a look at The Invincibles (By look, I mean Wiki) and McCabe wasn't a part of the touring team. Am I missing something here ?

I remember reading about it a lot when I was younger too. There was even a tv show on Bodyline when I was a kid. Good times

He had retired long before that tour, those three Aussie 'generations' of pre WW2, post WW2 and the one under Benaud later are tightly interlinked with a lot of big names interlinking them, the likes of Bradman, McCabe and other unpicked ones formed the earliest one, the one which carried through and gave the rise to that dominating team that toured England in 48. A bit like perhaps, Steve Waugh's Australia and Ponting's Australia.

Can @KM threadmark after the latest rounds ? Also, the updated squads after Criteria 6 if it is not too much trouble. It's hard keeping track.

Edit: Thanks TMH. Also please threadmark the Criteria 7 too KM

Should talk a bit about Roberts as well. Gets lost in the whole Windie pace battery narrative, but he was the first one of that pace revolution in the caribbean. And the fiercest of them all, without doubt. Went in with pure aggression and almost an intent to kill, express pace and quality with raw in your face backlash that the Englishmen had to suffer during that infamous series.

I am quite pleased with my squad as well (Maybe except Trescothick, but even he isn't so bad). I know it might house quite a few unfamiliar names, but I have bowlers who average a wicket every 21 runs with a strike rate of 49-51. My Top order average over 70. Just need a good captain and a decent Spinner and I can comfortably mould my squad.

A question was asked on future criteria and what areas will they be about so I thought I will mention it here. I see everyone is starting to put squad in order from 1-11, so assuming you all are planning your picks as per that anyway.

So,
Criteria 8: Will be bowler specific or at least more leaning towards bowlers

Out of remaining 4, 2 will be generic, you will have equal opportunity of choosing batsman or bowler. Or even WK for that matter. Rest 2 we haven't planned yet.

Who was that man who went behind our backs to ask you this. We demand to know.
I'll block him like my life depended on it. Or I'll ask vanGaalEra or Crappy to do it anyway.

Oh and also, can someone please tell me how I could view the no of MoM's a player has won from their profile (I know I can just cross-check the Link TMH has posted, but that seems a little tedious). Sorry, I am bit of a cricinfo noob.
