Only got chance to play half an hours worth last night, still at the mage village.
I think it could easily break any video game selling record. Practically every gamer would buy it, the oldies for nostalgia and the young hipsters because they have heard about it but it was so old and with so terrible graphics that it is unplayable. I don't think that Square will ever do a proper remake though (it may do probably an HD version but that is something else) and I don't think that it is possible to make it as good/better than the original. If they released a next gen remake/sequel of FFVII, I reckon the worlds economy would just outright collapse.
Absolutely, I'd buy two copies.I think it could easily break any video game selling record.
I think that it would cost as much as making a great new AAA game. A few years of developement by a few hundred people. Probably a hundred millions or so.How would they handle it to please everyone though? Voice Acting and things of that nature?
Not to mention the Cloud cross dressing segment.
It probably doesn't need to be said but those ps1 games were absolutely huge for what they were so to remake them in HD would require a lot of manpower. Don't get me wrong its doable but if it isn't done perfectly, then people will moan, so in a sense its not worth the risk because everyone's expectations are just too high.

Not enough games have the 'ol world map these days.A major difficulty in remaking FF VII is the traditional world map. I think it would weird and out of place in a game with modern, realistic visuals (which I assume they would aim for, judging by recent FF's and that much debated tech demo of several years ago). Creating the entire game world with consistent visuals would be extremely ambitious. And removing isn't really an option either if they don't want half the gaming community bringing pitch forks and torches to their HQ.
Absolutely, and 7 has to stay censored the way it was.Voice acting would ruin the older FF games. It takes away dialogue potential.

Ni No Kuni is anime style, that's why it works. I don't see SE going down that road for a FF game any time soon. The world map wouldn't be an issue. Think of Ni No Kuni and it's world map and it would work pretty much similar to that. It's the voice acting and character expressions that would be the issue. The tone of the game flickers from extremes that wouldn't work and would be all over the place if the characters are imposed with more more depth.
The English voice acting on Advent Children seemed fine to me, tbh.
Yes but it didn't have modern day graphics. Ever since the PS2, SE have opted for a consistent graphical style throughout their main FF's and never implemented a traditional world map again. That makes me think they'd be reluctant to put it in a remake as well. It could work fine, but I don't think they do it. Just a gut feeling though. Mostly because they're a useless bunch nowadays.Final Fantasy 8 has a realistic style and a world map, works fine. I can't see why it wouldn't in a 7 remake, people just have to get over the fact that objects on the world map may not be to scale.
Won't find me disagreeing there.Yes but it didn't have modern day graphics. It does make it hard to discern their accents though, Zidane sounded American to me up until at one point in the game he goes "nothing, nowt" and then I thought, is Zidane from Manchester?!!!I think one problem with voice acting is that it removes a lot of ambiguity. When you're only given text boxes, a lot of what makes the characters who they are depends on what you infer from the words, how you imagine them being said in your head. I think everyone who plays the FF games before X will have a slightly different idea in their heads about what the characters are like because of this. The Cloud in Advent Children isn't very similar at all to the Cloud in my head for example.
Man, that whole section of game is majestic...I've just done the lifa tree now.
