I played that game for 120 hours and I wish I could've played more!

I didn't have to grind my way up in XII at all, so I don't really see where you're coming from to be honest.
:smirk: So I take it you finished the game after what, 20 hours, then continued playing for another 100?

It took my 40 hours and I definately had to grind.

The game is at least 30 hours, so I dunno where you're getting 20 hours from. And yes, I did a huge amount of other things, such as getting all the Espers, beating Omega Weapon, beating Yiazmat (which required levelling up to near max).
To actually beat the game though, I just made sure to cover every bit of the dungeons, and I got more than enough levels from that.

VIII had a good story i thought, much better than XII. I couldn't give a monkies about the characters in XII bar Balthier. And they stick a song in on the end credits just for no reason whereas in VIII and IX the song used in the end was a driving theme throughout the game.

Have just completed Final Fantasy VI (PS1 version) for the first time! Excellent game, falls apart a bit though in the second half (first half is quality though). A decent cast of characters although not up there with my favourites from VII & IV.

Now I just have V & IX to complete!

A release is uncertain, I would imagine Japan will get it first and I'd imagine they would get it either Q3 or Q4 2009. Then it has to be localised into Western Languages and then ported over to the 360 before it gets released, so Europe could still be waiting some time yet.

Unless of course the PS3 version comes first, which would ultimately make more sense. Wasn't the engine it is being developed on specifically designed for PS3?

Weaste that's a question for you.

The engine history is a little hazy and rather convoluted. As far as I remember (I can't state any of this as fact without doing a little research), the game started development on PS2, and was then shifted to PS3. At that time it was called the White Engine and was PS3 only. It's now called Crystal Tools and is multiplatform, however they have boasted how much they are using the SPUs, so it is PS3 centric most probably which should also help any XB360 and PC ports. Interestingly, Square Enix are now also licensees of the Unreal Engine which they use for other projects.

The game is still PS3 exclusive in Japan, and will be released this year (the demo isn't too far off), and then they will localise it at the same time as trying to port it to XB360. It will then be released simultaniously on XB360 and PS3 in the West, probably in North America (and maybe even Asia - the International Version) first due to only being in English/Japanese, and then in Europe later when they have it in German, French, Italian, and Spanish, etc. Think sometime 2010 if you don't import.

Anyone who says XII is shite isn't a proper FF fan. It's their best since VII.

Right...

I think I've played and cleared every one of them, so I'd probably know, but thanks for your wonderful input. And my god, X-2 is the most atrocious pile of wank ever, the only thing that's better than is being shot in the fecking face.

XII is a great game, but any FF fan is going to find it difficult to get in to because the battle system is so different, I didn't like the first 5 hours but after that I was hooked. It hasn't got a great plot, but it's certainly better than the plots of VIII and IX. I played that game for 120 hours and I wish I could've played more!

That's wrong to the extent that it's actually bewildering. 8 and 9 had fantastic storylines; 12's was ridiculously poor.

I was the other way around then, I enjoyed the game immensley for around 25/30 hours, but then the story became bogged down and uninteresting, the music was poor, and most of the characters were boring. Also, once I'd mastered the Gambit system, you could just basically put your pad down and let battles take care of themselves.

Exactly. At the start, I was absorbed; unfortunately, it soon became fairly apparent that the music, story and fighting system were all way off the mark. The above 3 factors, especially music, are what make Final Fantasy so special, yet FF12 provided none of this!

12 was simply not an FF. The gap in quality between 10 and the last one is actually staggering.

Oh aye, and those trailers, particularly the Versus one, look incredible. There are bits in that Versus trailer which are almost indistinguishable from reality!

No they've already said that the 2 versions will be released at the sime time in europe/usa

btw the jap demo is out on march with the Advent Children blue ray disc

I know what was said, I just have no doubts that the PS3 version will be ready and finished whilst the 360 version will still be going through the process of being ported and localized to different languages. It makes no sense to hold the PS3 version back to coincide with a 360 release.

I hope they don't anyway, because if they do we won't be getting this game until late 2010 or early 2011.

I'd shot myself if the game is no released by Xmas 2009 at least in USA.

On a sidenote Star Ocean 4 is out in a couple of months, I loved the 3, and I hope it will be as good.

Now I'm playing Persona 4 (ps2), one of the best rpgs EVER.

No, seriously, ports are funny things, as they could run into all sorts of issues along the way - thus delaying the whole lot.

Exactly. Re-affirms why I think the PS3 version will be released ahead of the 360 version.

Better get your gun ready, only Japan will see FFXIII in 2009.

They are releasing a FF VII PS3 in Japan, but not the game. ;)

Dubbed "Cloud Black," it's a 160 GB PS3 that comes packaged with Advent Children Complete (Blu-ray) and will be priced at 49,980 yen.

They're such teases. Don't like that design though, most people wouldn't even know what it is. I'd prefer a totally white PS3 with the original logo on!

That would be badass.

Final Fantasy XIII exclusive to Japan in 2009

Square Enix's highly anticipated JRPG won't be released outside of island nation until sometime after April 2010 on PS3 and Xbox 360.

At this year's Tokyo Game Show, Square Enix debuted a new trailer for Final Fantasy XIII, its highly anticipated role-playing game slated to arrive for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Aside from the eye candy, Square Enix's trailer also offered the tantalizing promise of a 2009 launch date.

Unfortunately, that promise of a 2009 release apparently applies only to Japan, given that the game isn't going to make it to the US or Europe until the second quarter of 2010 at the very earliest. The news emerged as Square Enix, the game's developer, delivered projections for the remainder of its current fiscal year, which ends March 31.

Square Enix president Yoichi Wada told Reuters that the game was on track for a 2009 PS3-exclusive launch in Japan, with international launches for the Xbox 360 and PS3 coming "in the business year from April 2010 or later."

Final Fantasy has been one of the most successful franchises ever to hit the console market. Since its first incarnation on the NES, the series has sold upward of 85 million units worldwide, with numerous spin-offs and even a feature-length movie adding to its success.

Despite the delay in the launch of Final Fantasy, Square Enix has remained optimistic about its financial outlook for 2009 with a small dip in operating profit of 2.4 percent to 21 billion yen ($236 million) forecast for the year. The company also reported healthy sales for the tail end of 2008 and said "demand has been generally brisk," with key titles such as Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest IV and Final Fantasy VII prequel Crisis Core all hitting shelves throughout the year.

 Elvis gonna top himself now.

What the feck?! April 2010?!

Pisstake of FF12 proportions.

I finished FFV earlier for the GBA. My quest to finish all of the main series is nearly complete! :D Excellent game, I love the job system, all Final Fantasy games should use jobs!

For IX since my PS3 won't play it properly I'm going to try and rip it to my PC and play it through an emulator. Its funny, I bought IX the day it was released and realy liked it, wouldn't have guessed it would be the last game in the series I needed to finish!

FFV is a fantastic game and it's got one hell of a soundtrack. I stopped playing it when I was right near the end; I'll sort that out when I've got time.

I've finished Final Fantasy IX, finally! :D Thats I (PSP), II (PSP), III (DS), IV( DS), V (GBA), VI (PS1), VII, VIII, IX, X, XII all finished! (As well as X-2, Tactics & Crisis Core).

I'm not sure why but it began working on my PS3, perhaps there have been firmware updates that have improved things, so I've been playing through it the past couple of weeks.

Admitedly I have played through to the end of the second disc before so I was able to breeze through the first half fairly quickly, it gets pretty tough though in the second half, the final boss was very tough. Its a great game, I think I appreciate it more now than I did back when it was first released, and as it was the last FF I had to complete I was able to pick up on a lot of the reference to the previous games (I especially liked the 4 fiends from the first FF returning). Plot gets a little silly towards the end but that happens in most FF games anyway, and Vivi is a great character. Loved the ability system too.

Unfortunately now I've gone through my backlog of FF games I don't have any other games lined up to play now, will just have to wait for Street Fighter IV!

The trailer is out on Xbox Live for FFXIII and i downloaded it.

I must say the gameplay looks crazy.

It's too long to wait for this :(
