The fastest man on Earth -the road to the 100m final.

I reckon Bolt will go 19.5 at the worst and possibly even 19.4.

But even if he doesn't, the 200m is more of a strength event. Bolt will get stronger and he'll get there one day.
 
Why is the winner of the 100m sprint the fastest man on earth?

They run 50m indoor and some outdoor meets

Or perhaps the fastest man is the quickest to perform a lap of the track. If a savage wild beast was chasing you, and safety was 400m away, you'd rather be a specialist at that distance than the 100m. You might initially get away quicker, but you'd soon be dog meat...

Wild beasts usually run at least 2x as fast as men, so it wouldn't matter

Because they measure the maximum speed the sprinter reaches. But they did mention Michael Johnson reached a higher speed in the 200m than we has been achieved in the 100m
 
Bolt is gonna win it, he pulverised the rest in the second round without putting much effort in it.

Yep these guys spend their whole lives training to run as fast as they can, yet they're not even a match for my lazy dog who spends most of the day chewing a tennis ball.

They're actually really quite slow in the grand scheme of things.
 
Gay and Powell are running in Heat 2 in the semifinals while Bolt runs in Heat 1. That's a pretty big advantage to Bolt. The second heat looks much tougher anyway so Powell and Gay are going to have to run 100%.

Most incredible thing I've seen in Athletics, that is one of those records that you just can't see anyone breaking anytime soon. The next fastest guy is 19.62, 0.3 seconds slower :wenger: I remember Frankie Fredericks in the 1996 in your clip ran 19.68 (WC was 19.66) and he was so far behind it was a joke. Talk about running just about the perfect race.

Well now he had to run 75 meters and jogg the rest. 9.85 in 0 m/s wind.
 
Gay didn't run well in the prelis either so this was expected.

Going to be between Bolt and Powell.
 
Asafa Powell had slightly favourable wind and seemed to be sprinting the whole 100 and did 9.90. Bolt jogged his way to 9.85. I think he's going to win this very easily.
 
He's been doing 9.80s in relative ease. Wonder what will happen if he goes all out.
 
Very disappointing that Gay failed to qualify, the race needed all three of them.

Can see nothing but a Bolt win right now.

Well the way Gay was running on both of these 2 days, I can't see how he could have challenged Bolt either.

Still would have added to the intrigue in a one off race seeing as though he is still the reigning 100 and 200m world champion. Even if it was just the race for second place.
 
Even if Gay was 100% race fit I don't think he would be able to compete with Bolt. He's on another planet at the moment.
