The F1 Thread 2015 Season

The race for the lead was over after the first corner really, Hamilton's penalty didn't really make much of a difference. Great weekend from Rosberg, good news for the championship.

Weird race with a scary crash. Still have not pinned down exactly what happened, but I watched it on german tv and could understand about 30% of what was said, so that might be why. Decent race by Verstappen, bit shite that he lost control for a second and missed out on finishing 7th.

Boring.

Firstly, they need to change the rules around engine development. Yes unfair on Mercedes but you can't have McLaren (Honda) and Red Bull (Renault) performing like this even though its their fault, it's like Italian league after the scandals. Plus why would any engine supplier want to join years down on development.

The flipside to that argument then becomes money, it takes money to develop and these engine manufacturers can't control themselves so they end up dumping millions and millions down the rabbit hole.

It's true but if they don't spend to fix it you could argue the audiences/sponsors/manufacturers start dropping. They have to provide a show long term. Every race the topic is that things are boring which is becoming boring itself.

I don't know what the solution is maybe unlimited development during the summer or tackle it by introducing more emphasis/freedom on the aero packages and things like blown diffuser so it isn't just about engine. I trust there are more smarter people than me that can put agendas aside.

Silverstone is usually a good race, if they make that and Spa boring I will cry...

kimi's back end went out - alonzo said others tried to avoid it. this kid is doing the business. 17 and my son is getting his drivers licence this kid is running laps with the big boys..

The sponsors dropped when free to air lost the TV rights to Sky, it's an easy one to fix.

It's only boring currently as Mercedes are dominating. It just needs other manufacturers to pull their finger out and invest more in the development of their engines. It's a simple equation and closer racing would eliminate all comment of boring races or F1 needs to change something

When Schumacher dominated in the mid 00's FIA made drastic changes.. They need to fix this if they want someone to tune into watching this again.. This season is turning into last season take two!

Strategy Group bans driver aids and overhauls engine-penalty rules
Driver aids and coaching to be banned; New engine suppliers to be allowed use of an extra engine; Rule to be retrospectively applied to Honda;
F1's Strategy Group has recommended an overhaul of the current regulations surrounding engine penalties and an immediate ban on driver aids.

According to the group, the ban will feature 'particular emphasis on race starts' and 'will bring back the driver in full control of the car, enhancing excitement and unpredictability.' Driver coaching will also be outlawed.
The group's recommendations also include 'increased freedom of choice for tyre compounds' and a proposal for 'faster and aggressive looking cars' for 2017.

An unspecified 'overhaul' of the engine-penalty regulations will also be fast-tracked for the approval of next week's meeting of the World Motorsport Council.

The group has also agreed for 'an extra unit per driver for any new manufacturer entering the championship and, for the sake of fairness, the measure will apply retroactively to Honda for the 2015 season'. The FIA will also consider changes to the engine development token system and an 'increase in race fuel allowance'.

The Strategy Group has also proposed changes that will improve 'engine noise' for 2016 as well as put forward 'exciting' plans for the 'qualifying and race format' that could also be implemented for next season.

Apparently the new format they're thinking about would be quali replacing FP3 then a one hour race on Saturday afternoon to set the grid for the race on Sunday. Which is just about the worst idea ever.

That's basically GP2.

That would be an absolutely shit way to try and mess with something that doesn't need messing with. The quali format is absolutely fine, the race format is fine, it's the cars and regulations that need changing. Taking driver aids away is great news though, particularly the launch systems as the starts aren't nearly as interesting as they used to be because everything is controlled so its rare you see a driver jumping 3-4 places off the line like they used to.

Hamilton struggling in FP again, really off the pace of Rosberg on long runs. Seems too far off to be just setup.

Another rubbish weekend from Hamilton so far. Starting the race on older tyres than everyone else too.

Do they normally not have the leaderboard times on the screen during qualifying (top left corner or something). Had no idea what was going in towards the end of that session.

The effect of that if you bail that early isn't that much now the Pirelli's aren't made of cheese. But yes, Hamilton having another weekend where he's not really nailed his setup and therefore looks a bit off Rosberg.

I think the leaderboard glitched at the end of that session.

Not many people were improving, maybe the track went away from them. Great job from Williams and from Kimi, he's looked pretty good compared to Vettel this weekend.

Lewis must have been holding something back in the middle sector in the early stages, he improved a ton through there in Q3.

Track temp must have changed on the final runs, hardly anyone improved.

How much of creep is Ted Kravitz? Was watching his post F1 show after qualifying very cringey viewing at times.
