The F1 Thread 2014 Season

I must admit to having some sympathy for Vettel , 4 times WC and given a dog of a car this season.

He's not made the most of what he's got. Look at Ricciardo with the same kit. Relative rookie too. No way should he be so comprehensively beaten by his team mate.

Decent race so far, Rosberg really struggling!

Can't realy call it a dog when Ricciardo is running towards the front of the pack, car just doesn't suit Vettel.

Rosberg isn't dropping off much, wonder if he was pacing himself a bit and just got caught out.

Second penalty of the afternoon for Maldonado. I wonder is we can get through a race without Paster doing something stupid.

Hats off to Hamilton here if he wins. Cant help but feel Rosberg is following the Mark Webber scenario of being championship leader and odds on favourite to watching it slide away. Shame.

I still have a nasty feeling Hamiltons car will break down in the last race and rosberg will win due to the double points rubbish

that would be a piss take, but i suppose the rules are the same for everyone.

That overtake by Vergne.

Was like a move out of robot wars not f1!

Interesting but can't see it. Lewis is like the racing equivalent of Bayern right now. Although there would be massive irony in him losing the title on the last race.

Grosjean's reaction too.

I can't believe the commentators on Sky didn't think there was anything wrong with him power-sliding into Grosjean.

In other words, he's just not good enough.

Hamilton is probably (with Alonso) the quickest driver in F1 so I suppose it's nothing to be ashamed of. Nico has done better than most would've thought against Lewis but in the end, probably not enough.

Tough judgment there. Nico has been pole most times, he's just fallen short on race days. Lots of factors in that - safety cars, driver error, weather, tactical slips, tyres, engine failures etc. Not arguing just extending the case to other issue affecting it on race days too.

Lewis is by far the quickest driver. The man throws it around like he's still in karting. Amazing. He's also showing great maturity to look after tyres under pressure.

Alonso is the best all round i'd say. His management, defensive work and all round game is superb. Ricchiadro is fast following him in those steps. Cracking season by him.

Vettel's probably still the most reliable to hold a lead but he's not shown much character or fight this year.

Nico has impressed with his one lap pace all season, fair to say he's surprised me with that. Comprehensively beaten in the races when its a clean race though, Hamilton has shown his class this year in race pace, tyre management and keeping his head, if you can praise Rosberg for quali pace then you have to acknowledge Lewis has put to bed some of the doubts people had about his ability to manage races.

I hope you are wrong, I've been an avid watcher of f1 for years but these recent seasons have been a bore with a single teams dominance.

Isn't there a freeze on engine development? If so MB engined cars are still gonna be at the front, followed by Ferraris and Renaults. God knows where Honda will be.

Can't see dominance like this again next year, Merc will still be the team to beat but I'll be amazed if they are this dominant again. I mean Williams is arguably the 2nd best car, you know its a down year for the others when they are ahead of Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari.

Rumour is Honda's engine is actually looking good.

Rumoured that Mclaren will be testing the engine in Abu Dhabi at the post season / young driver test.

Mercedes might have dominated but they made it interesting by letting both drivers race each other, the last couple of seasons where RBR dominated turned into borefest as there was little competition between Vettel and Webber.

Solid win for Lewis again. Travesty if he doesn't win the title.

He did squeeze Nico quite a bit on the overtake though.

Standard overtake, Rosberg squeezed him on the way in therefore he had to squeeze back on the way out, nout wrong with that.

Got a really bad feeling about this double points in F1. If Lewis loses to Nico on double point at the end. Nico has been totally outclassed. Nico is a tad lucky if not for the bad luck Lewis has had, he'd be long gone from the title even with double points at the end. Lewis would the champion by now if not for:
Oz - DNF, Engine.
Monaco - 2nd, Lewis denied pole by Nico reversing onto track in qualy.
Canada - DNF – Brakes.
Austria - 2nd, Bad pit stops ruined chance of win.
Germany - 3rd, Brake failure in qualy , starts from 20th.
Hungary - 3rd, Engine Fire in qualy, starts from back.
Belgium - DNF, caused by Nico.

You can't cite bad luck and then completely ignore Rosbergs DNFs. I don't disagree Hamilton is the better driver, but they've both had car problems.

Hamilton did have more technical problems. Mind you, Rosberg's wheel problem a few weeks ago that allowed Hamilton to take the lead was a real killer.
