The F1 Thread 2014 Season

I'm hoping for some rain or we could be in for a boring race.

Nah, even if the Mercs do their standard disappearing act, Canada never seems to disappoint.

Rain would be excellent though, especially something like 2011, one of the best races ever (and almost didn't happen).

Qualis for the Canadian GP starting in less than 20, my favourite course. Hard to look past Hamilton for pole position and the win, he absolutely loves this course.

Also, article by Jonathan McEvoy saying that Hamilton and McLaren could be reunited in the future, based on two outcomes: One is Honda develop a title-winning car, and two if Rosberg wins this year, then Hamilton may not feel he has the "full support" of his team and will feel unloved (as we all know he has one of, if not the biggest ego in F1). Other options are Vettel and Alonso which would also be an interesting shout were they to move.

If McLaren want to get back to winning ways, they will have to part with one of Button or Magnussen, because as a team I don't think they are good enough to be competing with the best. With Button, I find he brings out his A-game the most when his teammate is pushing him, just like Rubens Barrichello did at Brawn and Hamilton did at McLaren. Perez and Magnussen are not as good as the previous two mentioned, and I feel Button isn't pushing himself to drive harder like he used to. Magnussen on the other hand is a rookie, and after such a promising first race has gone slightly off the boil, but it is too soon to be writing him off especially at the age of 21. So the question is: If McLaren were to get Vettel, Hamilton or Alonso into one seat, then who goes? Do they keep their driver of 5 years in Button, who had 3 good seasons before last and arguably does better with a more competitive teammate, or do they keep the 21 year old prospect who has shown moments of brilliance, but is a gamble for the future? It's a tough one to call, but if I had to pick, the romantic in me would see Button and Hamilton reunited, as the 2010 and 2011 seasons would have been theirs had it not been for the utter dominance of Red Bull.

I don't want Hamilton back at McLaren, I would rather them bring in another driver. Anyway, this all assumes McLaren can get their shit together, I have my doubts about next season.

He's the best driver they've had in a decade, and he would look very impressive if Honda were to get the engine right. They've had a good couple of years to prepare this engine, so I'm expecting big things from them.

The Mercs don't look that great on the super-softs, could allow Williams to get in the mix.

Merc's were trying to get through on a semi-hot lap to save tyres I think, looks like they frightened themselves into doing a proper run.

Hamilton fluffed it in the middle sector, trying too hard after losing time behind that Red Bull in his first run.

Could be a great race this.

Good lap by Vettle too, I didn't think RB had that in them.

Lewis locked up in the middle sector. The good thing is that pole isn't everything on this track.

Nico and Hamilton will lead it for a while, but others will be in the mix. It's a very interesting track in terms of turns etc. Williams will be in the mix as others have said.

I'm gonna put my money on Hamilton winning this one. Nico will hold the first corner but I can see Hamilton beating him a little into it; this is probably his favourite track after all.

I wouldn't be surprised if Seb overtakes Hamilton at the start, not sure if he can stay in front though.

Might we be seing the end of the Red Bull design dominance? I mean, this year they've not been the dominant team, but I'm pretty certain that's purely down to their engine being a dog. The Merc is a fantastic package, but the Red Bull is better, I think. The engine is what's making the difference.

Lewis had a great start, but was always going to be forced wide. Hopefully he doesn't get held up by Vettel.
