The F1 Thread 2014 Season

Good improvement by Red Bull though, hopefully they'll able to push the Mercedes soon.

I think if i was an F1 driver they'd struggle to get me onto the podium when all those women are there...

Rosberg goes well at Monaco, I think he might have a chance there.

Just looking at the calendar though, a ton of what you would consider Hamilton tracks ahead.

I sort of hope this doesn't come down to someone winning the title because of the double points in the final race. What a BS rule.

Rosberg with the "stop fecking winning" champagne rage.

Lewis only needs to get on pole. And I think he probably will.

#F1isdead.

Yeah, even when they dramatically change, it's still lost. Just put everyone in the exact same car.

Great win for Lewis, hope he makes it 5 in a row at Monaco. He's due there, hasn't won it since 2008.

He will I feel. He's faster than Rosberg in qualis, and Monaco is nigh on impossible to overtake unless you have superior pace. Should be his for the taking bar any mistakes

If everyone was in the same car F1 would definitely be truly dead. It needs a variation of teams as much as it needs a variation of drivers.

The tyres have to be sorted out and it would be good if someone could get close to Mercedes but that's up to the other teams to step up. But to listen to the engineers tell the drivers to go easy on the tyres every race is the opposite of F1 should be

This is truly killing F1. And the indicator of fuel usage every 10 laps? Don't even get me started

looking at the Fantasy League table, it is clear that anybody that does not have both Merc's in their team wont be doing anything this season, I only have Lewis.
Can a fellow player please post a screenshot of the table, I have tried but cant do it.

I'll post it given that I'm top and Nick is bottom. Tough luck Nick........

Magnussen needs to get his act together. He's the one costing me at the moment.

Feck the money, feck the glory. Dante's Fantasty F1 teams needs the points, Kevin.

Same. I am 6th and already 500 points off. I already have resigned myself to the fact that there is no way that i can cover that difference against posters with two merc drivers.

I am already 1000 points down on top stop, bit gutted done well the past few seasons.
I knew the Merc's were going to be the team to beat and still I only put one in, next season may change to the option that you can change the drivers every race.

Nico Rosberg says the new trumpet exhaust his Mercedes team tested on Wednesday in Barcelona did not work.

Mercedes volunteered to design and test the new, louder exhaust following supporter complaints that the new turbo hybrid engines are too quiet.

F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone is among those concerned that quieter engines could lead to a drop in audiences.

"We tried the new exhaust [because] as a team we want to do good for the sport, but it wasn't a great solution. It just didn't work."

Mercedes tried out the new design at a test at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona.

Rosberg did a handful of laps with the exhaust extension in the first hour of running before switching to a conventional exhaust.

The results will be analysed by governing body the FIA and then

I've been watching F1 since '98. Only in recent years have I realised just what a underwhelming race the much vaunted "jewel in the crow" Monaco Grand Prix is. Its utter rubbish and the media has everybody fooled. In saying that, F1 is so indoctrinated into my life that I cant help but endure this miserable televison spectacle. Happy viewing.

Yeah apart from maybe 96 and 97 when it rained it's never been a good race. You simply can't overtake.

It's not the point of the Monaco Grand Prix though is it?

Maldonado just arrived

Yeah Monaco is more about the spectacle than the actual racing, very rare for it to throw out a classic in the dry.

I can live with one such track on the calendar because of history and prestige, shite like Valencia or Hungary can fall first.

I've been saying for a while that it should be cancelled. It's a horrible track.

That would be the death of F1, monaco isnt about a good race, its about the spectacle, the glitz and glamour, the monaco gp is engrained in the history of F1 and i cant see that ever changing

I love monaco, for me the last sunday in may is the best day of the year, monaco followed by the 500

To think like this is partly to misunderstand Formula 1 though. Yes, it's invariably a shit race, but so are loads of others every season - you can count the genuinely thrilling battles to win a race in the last decade on the fingers of two hands, the result is as much about qualifying as anything.

If you want loads of overtaking and genuine thrills and spills, there are loads of other better motorsports, but that isn't the point of Formula 1. Formula 1 is about being the best, the most high tech and, crucially to its existence, the most glamorous. And Monaco is as integral to that as anything.

That went out the window a long time ago. Pay drivers, cars being artifically slowed down, decreased engine sizes, its not any of that now. And even if it was, why would it hurt to try and make it as exciting as possible at the same time by getting rid of a track which just doesn't allow overtaking? I've never "got" Monaco, I don't really care that Will Smith will make the trip from Cannes, its a boring race, and the last time it came close to being exciting they redflagged it and Vettel changed his tyres. Crap race.

It is a crap race, but if you think F1 is primarily about racing you're in a dream world. It's about glamour and Monaco is the pinnacle.

To be fair can you actually name any prestigious motorsport events that don't end up boring 99% of the time?

Monaco is rich in history and important to the calendar, I'd much rather watch a unique event like that than watch them race around a deserted dust bowl in the arse end of nowhere because they handed Bernie a briefcase and a wink.

Out of interest, do you still want it there? Or do you tolerate it?

I still want it there.

It's no less boring than any race in Spain (Catalunya and Valencia are horrible for racing), Hungary (only time that was ever exciting was Hill in 1997, far too narrow), or Singapore (ooh look it's dark...and shit) but at least you still have the glitz, glamour, history and the massive juxtaposition between such powerful cars and such a tight, confined space.

The racing might be terrible at Monaco but you appreciate the skill of the drivers to not stick it in the wall straight away at it's highest.

Plus Monaco is a stunning place and I'd love to see a race there before I die.
