The F1 Thread 2013 Season

The change in tyres excuses a drop off in race speed but not his failure to finish the last 4 races.

No thread for indy racing so I am posting it here. There was another accident yesterday but some how no one was killed. Do they not have safety regulations for the cars? Parts flying all over the place.

and a fractured ankle and a concussion. Spine fractured in two places. I guess he could say he is lucky to be alive but blimey those are serious injuries. Poor guy.

May I add that I am truly sick of Vettal.

Its such a shame about Kubica. He was incredibly impressive in the BMW around 2008. He was leading the Championship at the midway point before BMW before they stopped developing the car. He could have been up there with Alonso, Kimi and Vettel by now.

I'd agree. Even in a weaker car he would challenge but not dominate, similar to Alonso. He's an incredible driver and is stupidly consistent. Him, and red bull are a perfect well oiled machine.

He has to leave Red Bull to prove it and take a weaker team to the top. Schumacher was more than the driving - it was the team of Todt, Brawn and Byrne.. Add that to the culture Schumacher brought to Ferrari and helped rebuild it. Vettel has to do something similar to be compared to them...

That's just a similar argument to Messi leaving Barcelona to prove he is the greatest of all time though. You can't really expect someone who is at the best place for him, where he is sure to challenge for titles, to leave just to appease the doubters.

Well Schumacher did exactly that, and currently has more titles than Vettel. He also ran other drivers close in better cars - something Vettel hasn't done. You can't say a guy is the best when he is driving a car faster than almost everybody else. The good news is that Vettel (if rumor is true) wants to do a Schumacher and will eventually leave Red Bull to go revive a slower Ferrari/McLaren. Then, we can talk about him being in the same league as the greats. Its like saying Hakkinen is an all time great because he won in 98/99 - that McLaren was so much better than the other cars, it was funny. Vettel's Red Bull (other than his first title I think) has been somewhat similar. Great driver - sure. All time great - not until he does something different.

He's been in the fortunate postion of being behind the wheel of a racing winning and for a decent percentage of races, dominant car. The top level drivers of F1 are seperated by tenths and I believe we are in a very talented driver era right now with 4 legitimate world class drivers in Vettel, Raikkonen, Alonso and Hamilton. Given a level playing field it would be one hell of a battle, but of course that will never be and right now F1 isn't even about being the fastest driver.

How many people rated Button as a potential World Champion until he finally got into a race winning car? Bad cars mask drivers talent just as much as they do good cars. Vettel cannot be questioned as top class, he is and I don't think anyone is denying him that but it has to be continually pointed out its not like he hasn't had the best car to do the job for nearly 5 seasons now, how many drivers in history have been that priveledged? Schumacher certainly did too.

We aren't watching racing in an era when you can grab a car by its horns and haul it to wins, if your cars great it will win races, if the cars bad it will finish outside the points. Vettel needs a strong teammate to finally show how good he is and he isn't getting one anytime soon by the looks of it.

Can't see a thread about it in the entertainment forum, but just got back from watching Rush with a few mates. Really recommend it, and even the one lad who got dragged along without really liking F1 enjoyed it

The advertisement alone got me wet. I'll certainly be "acquiring" it through legal means.

Spanish media are reporting the tragic news that Maria de Villota has been found dead in her hotel room in Seville.

This is on Sky News no other info yet. RIP

Sad to hear that, her life got turned upside down after that testing accident.

yeap even with no KERS in Q3 Vettel was just to quick, dont think Webber will win the race, he is not the best at starting, Vettel will be in the lead but the end of lap 1.

It won't take that long, I'd put money on Webber being P3 by turn 1. If not lower.

It's got to the point where I'm barely watching. I just know what's going to happen, it's sad.

So McLaren have nabbed Prodromou off Red Bull. Interesting. Hopefully does something to arrest the decline.

Fingers crossed for a Webber win tomorrow.

I'm in the same boat. This year feels like an undercard to next season when the rule changes will hopefully lead to a shakeup of the standings.

At the moment I can barely be arsed to watch the highlights. Bring on 2014.

I can see your point, but there is plenty of good racing lower down the field, I love F1 so will still watch it, looking forward to see what the teams do next season with the new engines.

I still watch, but I'm not gripped to it as I usually am. I'll be doing other things at the same time.

I've got a good feeling about Webber tomorrow, i don't think they'll be able to get Vettel's KERS unit stable enough tomorrow so he can use it in the race
