The F1 Thread 2013 Season

Just registered. But why do people choose the £45m option with no changes? Also is it better to choose just three or go with 6?

I use the £45m and have done for that past 3 seasons.
I have 4 drivers this year and last year, just depends on how much you want to blow on a driver.
I like to stick with the same drivers all season , worked for me last season, but other like to chop and change.

I'm in, I've gone with the £45 million again mainly because I totally forget to change the drivers anyway.

I've taken a gamble with a couple of drivers this year, we'll see.

Just entered the league, I want to win this year.

Signed up for the fantasy league! I chose the "set in stone" option - does this mean there's basically no interactivity for me now for the rest of the season?

BBC get 9 live races (first one is Round 3), Sky get every race live.

I still hate it.

Wait, the first race isn't on BBC?

Oh feck off!

Sky had best make some serious improvements to their coverage this season.

Honda might be returning as an Engine supplier and rumours has it they are hooking up with McLaren from 2015

I don't know about you but I see this as great news, as solely an engine supplier Honda can do great things and who can't look back to the Prost/Senna McLaren-Honda days.

Done deal by the looks of it. Quite risky for McLaren but could pay off big.

Probably wait until Vodafone bugger off for that.

Going to watch all the races on sky this year. Big part of the BBC was the chemistry and I'm not quite sure if they will have it this year. Sky will hopefully have improved too.

Do sky have the same presenting team this year?

Seems to be an awful lot of pundits backing Mercedes and Hamilton to win in Australia, I wonder if they known something we all don't. Probably more of a case of reading too much into testing times and the usual build them up and knock them down brigade.

They looked very fast in testing, but that does not mean anything, Red Bull did not do much in testing and maybe where holding back until the first race.
I am a big Lewis fan but don't really expect Lewis to win, a top 3 place would be an outstanding start to the season for him.

I think they can see the one lap pace of the car & judging that if they can get it on the front 2 rows of the grid then they have a good chance for a victory.

There's no point looking at the testing times as we don't know how much fuel they're carrying, FP3 might be first time we get to see the true pace of the front runners. I still think RBR will be the team to beat followed by Mclaren and Ferrari.

McLaren? Unless they work out their new suspension quickly i think they'll struggle. Button & Perez are drivers who need a car to be as balanced as possible to get the most out of it & i think this car isn't anywhere near balanced yet.

I would like that, less of red that is.

I'd love McLaren to go back to their old red and white colours, not this silver shite they stared using because of Mercedes.

I also reckon Red Bull will be lightning in Australia. They were so coy in testing, because they knew they were well on top of things.

Not entirely, West weren't particularly linked to the silver - the Zakspeed of the 80s:

Was just a general "re-branding" by McLaren, and the silver likely did have something to do with Merc.

Then by that notion the car surely should of been Silver in 1996 when they had a Mercedes engine?

The silver and now chrome McLaren's are far better looking cars than the Marlboro sponsorship ones. Though the red/white McLaren's will always be iconic cars because of the drivers that drove them, Hunt, Fittipaldi, Lauda, Prost, Senna.

The orange they used on test cars a few years ago was quite cool, but I agree that the silver/chrome looks good.

Not sure Marlboro would have been terribly happy with that. The change in title sponsor obviously gave the opportunity for a livery change, but I'd say that their choosing of silver for a big part of that (which continued after swapping West for Vodafone) quite possibly had something to do with Merc's history.

If Vodafone are leaving at that same time that Honda are coming on board though, and given that the chrome will have been on the cars for 9 seasons come the close of 2014, might suggest a change on the horizon.

I don't think McLaren are going to swap the Chrome anytime soon, it would take huge sponsorship for them to change it.

I always loved the BAR 1999 story, how they possibly thought they could run 2 cars with totally different liveries and get away with it I've no idea, they of course compromised with the zip car above.

The two cars alone really aren't too bad, the white one more or less is what BAR became anyway.

Well it's getting more interesting reports today Vodafone to end sponsorship of F1 team McLaren at the end of this season.

Wonder if they'll have an interim one for 2014, and wait until 2015 to launch the "new" team. Orange McLarens for a year?
