The F1 Thread 2013 Season

The sound of the 2014 engines.

GP2ish isn't it.

Still has the sound for me, I think car development and finding ways to be more environment friendly, has the was to go.
I agree Ethanol is a good idea, on the plus side if F1 is seen to be cleaning up, could mean more sponsorship money and maybe more teams in the future and that can only be good for the sport.

No it's not correct, do your homework on the technical regulations before posting. You just look clueless.

I am not that hot on the technical side of F1, on that you are correct.

My point was that in season testing is not allowed and whether it was a tyre test or not Mercedes must have gained valuable experience from it.
If this is not correct then maybe you could educate me?

That's the noise.

One of you uber F1 nerds (love you all) must know this - given that they keep making the regulations more and more strict to the point that the cars actually slow down nowadays, which year's car was actually the quickiest? ie, if you made a field of all the F1 cars ever (big field, I know) who'd come out on top?

They gained experience thats for sure, but the value of that experience cannot be qualified simply because they didnt have a clue what tyres they were running, could of been 2014, 2015 or even test compounds that aren't to see the light of day.

That bit of information Pirelli didn't share with them, so Mercedes didn't have a base line to start from & work out where there car was and where it evolved to. Silverstone will be the acid test for them, Monaco & Canada aren't really good enough circuits to judge tyre wear on.

So it's the British GP this weekend, anyone going? I went last year & decided to not go this year.

In terms of updates we know of so far:

Lotus - Heavy upgrades
Mercedes - Big package according to RB
McLaren - Few new bits

Pirelli have gone conservative on the tyre choice as well with Medium & Hard meaning it'll play into RBR and Mercedes. I think Lotus and Ferrari will struggle as the temperatures aint going to be anywhere near as high as a Hungary.

Unless Ferrari, Mercedes or Lotus have made big gains then I see this as nothing more than another Red Bull victory, I mean they have dominated it since 2009 and the one other victory for the rest (2011, Ferrari) was down to the engine map change that was sprung on them late.

Webber could make it interesting, but I'm guessing he won't.

Silverstone selling tickets at the gate too, jesus thats some comedown from being sold out a year in advance.

Then again the ticket prices now are insane, I haven't been since 2007 and at this rate probably won't ever go again. I mean I would go watch the BTCC but they decided to build a fancy new grandstand then not bother to use it.

I would love to go , but the prices are just way to much, to take my wife and 2 boys , buying from from the website now, would be nearly £700 and thats before petrol and food, just cant justify spending that for a day out.

If your boys are 15 and under you can get a Saturday family pass (2 adults + 2 kids) pass for £195, a bit late now but might be worth looking into for next year.

Last year downpour has probably put off a few people from buying tickets in advance, I am sure it will be sold out over the weekend.

The down pour wasn't that bad in all fairness, its more than likely the increase in ticket prices thats contributed to the lack of sales

Weather was terrible last year, race day was fine but a lot of people had to miss practice and qualifying as the campsite and car parks were flooded. Not sure on ticket prices as mine come from RBR but some of the packages look expensive, could easily spend £1k if your taking some one with you for the weekend.

Mark Webber leaving F1 to drive for Porsche sportscar programme next year.

Kimi to Red Bull?

I think they will promote one of the Toro Rosso drivers as RBR want to build the team around Vettel so a no2 driver like Ricciardo or Vergne would be ideal.

So long Webber, should have been the WDC in 2010.

I'm hoping for F1's sake that Red Bull stick Kimi in there with Vettel next year, give him his first proper heavyweight test.

JPM would go all Mansell on us and not even fit into the cars anymore.

I camped last year & it was fine really, just some people didn't really pick their spots to camp wisely & as a result suffered with the mud.

Can't really see Kimi to Red Bull, i think they want some long term stability in that seat & i'm pretty sure Vettel will be wanting a Torro Rosso driver to ensure he's still the teams number one.

I was thinking that too, Vettel was pissed with Webber in the team so to have a much better driver in the same team he'd be even more unhappy.

Good idea on the face of it but the fact that no driver would have suffered a ban had the system been in force in the course of the last season and a half suggests it could be better implemented.

Maldonado and Grosjean caused that many incidents between them that you'd expect them to have racked up sufficient points for a ban had this been in place.

Yeah I agree, they need to look at it more but it is a step in the right direction.
What did you think about the other rules changes, about engines and gearboxes?

Probably more a McLaren issue than a Pirelli one, tyre pressure probably dropped on that tyre & when the load was applied going through Copse it gave way. We would have seen more issues on a lot more cars if it was a Pirelli thing.

His floor looks shot to shit though. More woes for McLaren.
