Also, Lewis with a 5th, two podiums and a pole. By now with Mclaren he would have a win, a pit stop feck up and a mechanical failure so he's doing well.
Not really, the car has to weigh a minimum 642kg including the driver so they just do it to get that car over that minimum weight on the in lap.
Mercedes still need a bit of work to be truly ready for the championship.

I found it interesting the pit radio with Hamilton at the end, you would never have heard Whitmarsh going on the radio like that giving a driver some direction & motivation. Not surprised he's moved now.
If Ferrari can maintain their car I reckon Alonso will end up as WDC this year.

Looks likely doesn't it. Even if Ferrari have a dog of a car Alonso will still be able to be as competitive, such is the measure of his ability.

The Ferrari last year didn't look close to competing yet Alonso kept them in the game right till the end by grabbing some consistent podiums early on. If Lewis can do that and Mercedes continue there development, I think they've got a shot at the drivers / constructors.
I'm guessing from all the other stuff in this thread you don't watch much F1
I watch it all the time, I just wondered why they did it , the weight cant be that much extra, watching the race and trying to work does not help .
Damn right.
They have done a lot of work with the car and the fact that Massa was dreadful last season did not help.
Alonso is a cracking driver and got them points last season Ferrari should not of got.
