The F1 Thread 2013 Season

Rain allows Perez to go through. Grosjean would have had him.

The rain here can be insane, I hope these storms they've mentioned don't feck things up tomorrow, a SC start would suck balls.

I think both McLarens will struggle in Q3, they'll get no higher than 8th I reckon.

Interesting to see Massa out-qualifying Alonso again.

Monsoon season isn't it? I guess thats part of the fun, anything can happen.

Heavy rain, let's see if McLaren can capitalize.

This Mclaren has looked fast in the rain, now lets see if it can deliver but apparently the sun is on the way anyway.

Ferrari leading by Turn 1 then. Honestly if its dry tomorrow its all about who makes the tyres last, all the Q3 runners got bit of a break running only on inters and saving a set of drys.

Oh look Vettel on pole YAWN

Still, I expect both Ferraris to jump him at the start.

Massa looks to have rediscovered his speed. Hasn't had a great run since his accident. So far the Ferrari car has looked pretty quick, looks like they've improved it on last year. As long as Vettel doesn't win it I don't mind who wins.

Oh look...

He really is a legend when it comes to single lap pace isn't he

It's crazy, really. He's already number 3 in all time pole positions. Senna is the only driver I can remember who's been more impressive in single lap pace. Alonso has 22 pole positions in his career, Vettel 38

Bianchi was pretty stellar at the back again. If it's dry I'll go for an Alonso win. If it's wet, could be Cthulhu for all I know.

That was a cracking lap form Vettel to get pole, almost a second faster than Massa, he seems to have found some form.
I thought that Lewis was going to get pole at one stage, but his Merc seems to lack a bit of speed, against the Ferrari's and Vettel.
Hopefully the race will be the same has Q2 and Q3 dry and wet, will make for an exciting race.

I thought it was pretty obvious why Vettel got pole no? He admitted his car is setup slightly more towards wet weather which is explains his Q1 & Q2 times of which he did on 1 set of tyres, then in Q3 he went with new inters whilst Webber, Hamilton & Rosberg did it all on 1 set hence he found bags of time in the middle sector where it was wettest.

It's not like Red Bull suddenly lost the outright pace advantage they had over 1 lap in Australia is it?

I did not know about the set up, I only watched the highlights of qualifying.
There is more than a good chance of rain during the race, will be interesting.

Simple question.

Who do people think is the better driver? Button or Hamilton.

Button won three races last year to Hamilton's four. And so far this season the Mercedes looks quicker than the Mclaren, so it looks a good swap for Hamilton. All things being equal however, who is better?

People talk about Button's test book driving style and being really smooth with his inputs but just looks like his car isn't quick enough, would he fair much better at Ferrari or Red Bull?

Hamilton is better by some margin, you really shouldn't look at stats and take them as hard evidence and we already saw them battle on equal footing for three seasons. For example take away mechanical failures in 2012 and Hamilton probably has 7 wins and a chance at the Driver's title, Button was never really in it.

2011 was pretty much Hamilton's annus horribilis and perhaps one day when we get the no bullshit story from the insiders I'm 99% sure something happened mid-season within the team which signalled Hamilton's hasty exit, for someone who at the time in 2012 had a race winning machine underneath him he sure wanted out of that team quickly.

Don't get me wrong, Button is a great driver who I've followed since his F3 days so it was fantastic to watch him finally achieve his WDC in 2009 but he's not quite at the level of a Alonso, Vettel or Hamilton.

I recommend checking out James Allen's piece on it here.

Great article. The way I see it is that Hamilton is faster and the more talented of the two, Button is just a bit more consistent however. At this stage I'd be betting Hamilton will finish higher in the points standing than Button come season end.

The race starts soon, hoping one of Massa or Alonso win it over Vettel

Hamilton was very consistent last year, not his fault that the car gave up and Mclaren fecked up his pit stops few times and IMO he was involved in few unfortunate accidents as well. IMO he was great last season.

Looks nice at the moment. What are they expecting, shower or storm?

The storm just ended, but we're expecting a little drizzle again in the evening, probably towards the end of the race. Race has resumed in some areas of KL, not sure how soon it will reach the track, if it does.
