The F1 Thread 2012 Season

Yep. Not sure what happens if they don't though.
Didn't know that. I doubt anything would be done about it though if he brought it back straight away. Would be rather silly if it affected the result after how well he drove today

Nah it'll probably be a reminded and a small fine or something. I think its to ensure the car can be moved after you've left it.

no nothing to do with that.
His personal life takes it toll, his on off with shirtslinger, always seems to be something in the news about if he is staying or going to another team, I just think it may be getting to him.
Yes, maybe the tweets are showing his real state of mind.
Hopefully he will comeback next week and win.
He just won the last race, today he was basically unlucky. I personally don't think this will effect him. I don't expect him to win the championship though, just because of the gap. Still time so anything can happen.

After watching his interview, he mention the week he has had but he looked very calm and composed, I tend to agree with you.

As much as he was to blame that seems harsh when you consider what Maldonado has got away with.

Agreed but its about time they started properly punishing drivers, probably the wake up call a lot of them needed.

I don't have a problem with the penalty itself, just that Maldonado hasn't yet had similar or worse. I agree that it will hopefully be a wake up call.

Hearing Maldonado only gets a 10 grid penalty for his crash + false start. Unbelievable.

EDIT: 2 5 place penalties. So 3 in 1 race weekend. Which makes it 7 in 12 races and he still hasn't been given a single race ban.

tv replay showed maldy making a clean start from the front of the grid. but they must have a better angle from the official video.

Hamilton's onboard footage showed clear as day that Maldonado jumped the start.

The freeze frame had him a car length out of his grid position with the red lights still on.

yep saw that later. his not quite with it is he.

Just got back home from Belgium last night. The circuit is amazing, just can't believe how steep Eau Rouge is. Here's a pic I took.

Absolutely brilliant, we are at Monza too so I really hope they acknowledge his accomplishment, I'm sure they will.

Is this Hamilton to Mercedes stuff real do you think, or is Eddie Jordan talking balls?

It's Eddie Jordan so really its probably complete bollocks but I do get the feeling the relationship between Hamilton & McLaren has broken down and perhaps has been since as far back as mid-2011.

Career wise, for Hamilton's sake if he did go there I'd hope it was a 1 year contract so he could evaluate Mercedes commitment and speed whilst being available should a big seat open up. Mercedes right now are just going the same way as Honda did with the same outfit.

I don't think a quote from Eddie Jordan is worthy of such a huge news story but I wouldn't be shocked if it turned out true.

Don't see why he has to move. But if he did, i really hope Raikkonen comes back to Mclaren.

Really could be anything but its fun to speculate. I honestly think its a combo of things:

Money - McLaren want him to take a pay cut, his current contract was made pre-financial doom worldwide.

Trophies - He wants to keep them, McLaren don't allow it.

Support - Ron Dennis is no longer the man in charge, I don't think Whitmarsh and Hamilton have that same kind of relationship.

Results - Works both ways, McLaren have underperformed for long periods as has Hamilton.

Wouldn't do him that much harm to move to Mercedes, didn't hurt Alonso moving back to Renault for a couple of years. I'd quite like him to move to somewhere like Williams if he really had to move, a small team punching above its weight who might hit the front with a top driver in the car.

Money - i guess he is one of the top paid guys, so its question of reaching middle ground. Mclaren wouldn't be too fussed.

Trophies - Letting him have the next one if he wins is the best case scenario.

Support - I think he would really lose the kind of support that he has at Mclaren. Unless there is a professional development that a move provides and which he yearns, then it makes sense.

Results - The car looks like a championship winning car, question marks are about strategy. McLaren is at fault for that but things looks better right now.

Possible destinations have to be RedBull and Ferrari. Mercedes is the other best alternative.

I thought word was Merc were looking to pull out and go back to being just engine suppliers?

From PlanetF1:

A McLaren spokesman has commented that "we have been told by Lewis Hamilton's Management team that the story is untrue"

It would only be natural for his management to talk to other teams, McLaren might have been told its untrue but he still might be nearing a deal with Mercedes.
