The F1 Thread 2012 Season

Not F1 related but it is Motorsport related, for anyone interested there is a nic hamilton documentary on bbc 1 at 10:30 tonight about his journey to become a racing driver, sounds pretty good

I thought it was quite good

Yeah now gonna watch the Nic documentary.

That was a great documentary on nic hamilton last night, I'm in total awe of what he is able to do in that car considering that in 2008 he spent most of his time in a wheelchair.

He's a great character, key moment for me was when he was heading towards his first accident at nearly 100mph at Thruxton and he was thinking in his head at the time that I hope the marshalls are ok, I think that says a lot about the guy.

Personally was very impressed with lewis himself too, it must be very hard for nic having a superstar brother who has it all, money, good looks, popularity.

But he seems to do everything possible for his brother and never once did i see a hint of him suggesting he is any better than his brother, and the part when the papparazi are in his cars area and lewis looks really pissed at them trying to get photos really showed how protective he obviously is of him.

Was a good program all round really enjoyed it.

Yeah it was nice to see the protective and supportive side of Lewis, I think the worst thing that has happened to Lewis in F1 so far was loosing his father as manager, clearly his dad is great at a bit of tough love and getting them into the right frame of mind to race. That was some accident he had though at Thruxton! He is an inspiration for sure

Didn't watch the documentary, might watch it on iPlayer tonight if I remember, but Nic Hamilton is a great lad and him reaching where he has in motor racing is a fantastic achievement.

Thats the thing to, it was Nic's first form of racing in anything on track. Most of what he learnt was from games, thats a huge step to jump into a racing car and feel the forces and race against guys that have probably been racing since they were old enough to see over the wheel.

Oh and Sky announced their opening titles music.

Sky Sports F1

Bleh. The footage is great though.

Honestly though why did they choose that? That was a prime oppurtunity to make an epic intro, the footage is great so why did the feck it up with that song.

God knows. They've got some pretty lame stuff on the football coverage though so we should have seen it coming I guess.

Joined the Fantasy League, have a good feeling about who I have picked this year

Massa:lol::lol::lol:

I wish to say I am disgusted with Sky.

Last Sat I watched their new channel and they had a great piece by Steve Ryder with Emerson Fittipaldi. Next up was a still camera in the Williams factory - with the title building the Williams F1 car.

I was clued to it as they showed the Williams guys working on the car with the speed increased. 18 mins I watched as the car was built from nothing, yes nothing to having the wishbones in, one tyre on and an engine in place. 18 mins I had watched - Next it fecking stops and they show a williams car in HD. Was like watching Jaws and missing the ending.

feck sake - If you get a chance to watch it - don't

Anybody watching the sky f1 launch programme tonight?

Must say im impressed so far, and the in-race technology is a huge bonus.

Love that on the "red button" you can choose what driver to ride with and see the lap times while they are running etc.

Big improvement on the bbc in that regard from last year.

I set the V+ for it but not watched it yet, I love the sound of the red button stuff though!

Spanish Formula 1 venues Barcelona and Valencia set to alternate from 2013

Valencia grand prix start 2011Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone says he is close to finalising a contract for the Valencia and Barcelona races to alternate on the calendar from next year - meaning Spain will have just one race from 2013.

After months of speculation about the future of the Valencia Grand Prix, Ecclestone revealed that that event and Spanish GP organisers have agreed to share the race from next year.

In an interview with Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, Ecclestone said that he was now working on sorting out dates going forward.

"Both Valencia and Barcelona have agreed that the best way is to alternate, and now we are trying to choose the dates," explained Ecclestone. "We wanted to see how we could help Valencia, and alternating with Barcelona is a good solution. Sharing the race will be a good idea, providing they are all fine with it."

Ecclestone dismissed recent suggestions that this year's race in Valencia could be in doubt, and added that he would have been happy to stay there beyond its current 2014 contract.

"We really want to be in Valencia. Everyone is happy there; both the teams and the sponsors, and it would be a shame to miss an event like that.

"I would like to continue after 2014 having F1 in Valencia. I've always been very happy with the way they have organised the races, I have never complained and the people have always been very friendly and hospitable to me."

Well not everybody, does anyone outside of sponsors and Bernie like that track. At least we only get it every other year from now on.

Most of what comes out of Bernie's mouth in regards to tracks is bollocks, I dread to think how much money he has made out of running F1 races at terrible racing circuits in recent times.

Interesting weather forecast for the Melbourne next weekend. Rain on Friday, Saturday and maybe Sunday.

Kimi was funny on Top Gear, shame it was a soaked track so he had no chance of competing with the times.

Hopefully will be wet, at least for Sunday, a dry Saturday so we can see the true pace of all the cars would be fine, but a wet race is always good

How many have we got in the fantasy league now

I've always preferred a dry race to start the season off to get an idea where everyone's at but I won't complain if it rains either, should make for a great curtain raiser

Rarely rains at Melbourne, hope it doesn't rain TBH, want to get a rough idea of pace but again Melbourne is never a good barometer for the rest of the season but there is some stat that whoever wins the first race tends to win the Championship (yup looking at the last 5 races all of them except for the 2010 one where Vettel had a brake failure in the lead have been won by the eventual WDC.).

Even rain we can usually see who's good and who isn't though, the best cars tend to be the best in the wet too it just lets driver talent shine through a bit more. Melbourne is usually a decent race anyway but wet could make it a classic (in fact 2010 was wet wasn't it to start and that was a cracker.)

I'm gonna seriously put myself out there and ask: having only just been forced to switch over and upgrade Freeview boxes, and without looking forward to only half the races being available to me; if anyone on here please has a SkyGo ID that they're willing to share for race weekends only that includes the F1 channel, I would be forever grateful for a PM (if any kind soul wouldn't mind this) to discuss this. Of course I completely understand the nature of this request and the cheapness of it, and don't expect them to come flooding in at all. I just thought it might be worth a try. Cheers!

Still a little weird watching SSN cover F1, it's usually at the end after covering darts with 20 seconds of info on who won.

Anyway practice starts 1am on Sky soon looking forward to this.
