The F1 Thread 2012 Season

Anyone remember Alex Zanardi? Lost his legs in a crash after leaving F1. He's competing at the paralympics.

while I was looking for something about him, because I had never head of him I found this.
I have put it in a spoiler because it is quite horrific.
I am so glad that the safety in F1 is better than this.

Hand wheelchair racing. You pedal it with your hands (self explanatory really).

And if that other post about him is the video of his crash, I'm not clicking it, seen it before, but its horrific.

no its about Tom Pryce, in the South-African GP 1977 , a marshall is running over the track to help put out a fire and Tom's car hits him and the fire extinguisher hits Tom's helmet.

If a mod thinks it is to horrific then please delete it, I watched it and I am not ashamed to say I had tears in my eyes.

Not sure why I clicked it after that "glowing recommendation" but thats horrible. Not quite sure what the marshall was thinking there though

I found it by accident and after watching it I was just stunned, watching that poor guy spin in the air .

Yeah i googled Tom Pryce after watching. Apparently the marshalls body was torn in half, and he was only identified after he didn't appear at the marshalls meeting. And Pryce was partially decapitated. I'm surprised F1 survived stuff like this (though maybe not as visually horrific) happening so often in the 70s

I watched the Tom Pryce footage a few years ago and I'd rather not watch it again. It just highlights how ridiculous the safety aspect of F1 was back then and how good it is these days. People can talk about F1 being too safe or not like it used to be but it genuinely saves lives both in racing at all levels and road safety.

That's why Sir Jackie Stewart is one of my all time favorites, 3 time World Champion but also used his reputation and status within the sport to dig his heels in and demand improvement despite taking a bashing from more or less everyone, I don't doubt that in him doing that he saved countless lives.

Wow, JB has found some form again. Cracking lap that one.

The finger

feck you, you finger waving prick.

Also how the feck is Jenson so much quicker than everyone else? Have everyone else gone with a wet setup?
